  1. Why bother.

  2. bartholder22 says:

Happy Holidays Eric, thanks for your outstanding coverage of the Seahawks.

  3. Eric, When you do your holiday shopping, please get me a Suh, Tate, Bulaga, and Johnson. I won’t ask for anything else (this year).

  4. vichawkfan says:

reading about the Cowboys/Packers kicker troubles. Noticing that our 2nd kicker roster spot/draft pick from last year isn’t on anybody’s radar. Shocking, oh wait, we fired that GM already.

  5. vichawkfan says:

and Merry Christmas Eric, fantastic job.

  6. variable575 says:

did anyone catch the “Jim Mora” show? I can’t tell if Paul Silvy was placating to Mora or is just as dense than Jimbo if not more so.

Last time I watched the show it was Silvy responding to Mora, “that’s right it isn’t the play calling, it’s the player who have to execute”.

This time it was, “yeah that’s right, they were a 4-12 team” alluding to the team being horrible before jim got here and he has to rebuild the broken ship holmgren left. What a lame approach to take by Mora.

  7. Dukeshire says:

Yeah, I watched it. I watch it every week. Mora must have repeated how they were a 4 win team last year, at least 6 times. No matter how many time he says it and no matter how many more wins (1 only) they have than last year, this is an immeasurably worse team.

And variable, how was it when he got defensive, responding to the email question about Branch and Housh running the wrong routs? Right into the camara he starts “Listen, I don’t know where you got that information. The broadcast maybe…” I can’t imagine how he feels right now, but he’s got to start leading from the front if he has any hope to keep his job. Personally, I can’t see any possible way he retains he job. How can he ever get this team back? To respect him and play hard for him and buy into whatever it is he’s trying to sell? The only things we hear from him that need improving are intangibles; effort, hustle, accountability, fight, etc… There is never anything offered by way of specifics, never a tangible. Who’s going to start at RB? Not sure. Will you try to pressure the QB? We’ll see how the game unfolds. It’s gone on since day one. And believe me, he can answer the questions without giving anything away as far as the game-plan goes. Jesus christ…

  8. Well, what can we expect. You really thought Mora and Knapp are that good to replace Holmgren? As I said it many times before, the damage caused by Ruskell will have a long lasting effect on the Seahawks.

  9. bird_spit says:

My first comment since the game…and I never was upset by the game. I watched to see the reaction of the crowd, and was disappointed that the crowd did not turn on the boo machine..I didnt even see any brown paper sacks on TV.

If I’m Deione Branch, I would avoid eye contact with anyone in the organization, and collect my things and move out of my locker everything but the essentials.

I primarily watched our OL, and saw immense improvement. As expected, Spencer is a better guard than center. That said, he should not be re-signed.

One primary reason these guys are called soft is not that they dont play hard. It is that they could give a crap at the end of a play. I want to see the lineman run over and pull the RB from the pile. I want them to make the other team pay for any abuse. I want a Chris Gray back on my team. I want a Mack Strong back on my team. I want guys who genuinely cares about their play and teammates. These guys play like they could give a crap about the guy with the ball, outside of their assignments. This is not a ball club..its a loosely aligned group of guys collecting pay checks. And for that, Mora and company need to pack their bags.

  10. it’s official. Adam Schefter just reported that Holmgren will take the Big Show on the road to Cleveland in 2010

  11. hawkforever21 says:

Well that was one of, if not the lamest game/effort that I’ve ever seen in 30+ years watching the Hawks!

It’s so apparent that we have a team full of backups…….now we just need some stars.

I was hoping we could use the two 1st rounders on the OL, the DL or the safety position……but unfortunately we may have to use one on a long snapper! cuz ya just can’t have a 170lber taking care of your long snaps!!

How can you not have a back up for that specialty position?!! Unreal!
Not that that cost us the game, but seriously man!!!

Anyways, too bad about Holmgren…I think anyways……who knows, maybe they come up with someone proven and very good. Time will tell.

Any chance we could trade Branch back to New England for a 3rd rounder?

Maybe trade Kerney and/or Trufant along with a draft pick for Asomugha from the Raiders??? Worth a shot……if only we had a GM to be looking into these things. We seem to have a lot of decent parts that we probably won’t be keeping next year…..so give it a shot in the off-season.

  12. I have been intrigued by the thought of a Holmgren/Gruden team but, under my breath, have been supportive of another season for Mora.

But every time he opens his mouth is seems that something stupid comes out (Mare, Spencer, 5 wins this year = improving, etc.).

As fans, we can tell if a team is being coached up or not on Sundays. We don’t need to be at practice every day to see that the product on Sunday is stinky manure.

Most us have noticed the little things like the increase in stupid penalties too. I know the players must have individual accountability, however, some of the great coaches have a knack for having less penalized teams. Mike Holmgren teams had a knack for not being penalized as much as many other teams each season. There is a reason for this and it’s not luck. It is coaching. And it’s little things like this that we are not getting from this staff.

I am frustrated, as are all of you. If we don’t compete in Green Bay or at home vs. Tennessee (one of the hottest teams in the league, by the way) it’s time to can Mora (I realize most want him gone last night).

You find out the most about yourself in life when things aren’t going well. And things aren’t going well right now. We’re seeing who Mora is with some of the garbage that’s he’s spewing. In his defense, I don’t know what I could have really said yesterday about that “performance” but please don’t tell us the numbers like having a more wins this year makes us a better team. We’re not as dumb as he wants us to be.

If we can stay within 2 TDs at Green Bay, I’d consider that a moral victory. Isn’t it sad when you expect your team to lose by about 20 points (and you’re not even playing a favorite for the Super Bowl).

Welcome to the 1990s. Been there. Done that. Gonna have to go through it again. Sigh.

  13. Seahawks2620 says:

Maybe i’m missing something, but why can’t Butler become a Desean Jackson sort of talent, if given the chance. What is the difference between the two.

  14. devisscher says:

Why waste anymore time on this team? Fire the coaching staff and cut players. Seriously. If we’ve learned anything it’s that these guys just don’t care. Cut them and get some players that are hungry. Sign some free agents that have something to prove. Hire coaches that can motivate them, can gameplan, can adjust during games. Get a leader on both sides of the ball.

This is not a good team that’s underperforming, these guys either suck or don’t care. Anyway they shouldn’t be on the field.

People are saying they threw the game. I hope they did, and if so fire the coaches right now and see what they want to do for a new coach. If it doesn’t get any better cut them

  15. BobbyK – this is worse than the 90s. Outside of the Flores years, the Seahawks were generally competitive with the elite teams in the NFL.

I actually don’t think the OL played any different yesterday than they have all year. The Bucs chose not to blitz much so the OL gave Hasselbeck time. The OL’s problem is blocking the blitz because they are not suited to the ZBS. These guys don’t sit around and get beat all that often in one on one matchups but sometimes they look clueless in figuring out who to block and double team.

The Bucs dropped 7-8 back on each passing play. The Seahawks can’t beat anyone that way. They can’t beat anyone when faced with the blitz either. The difference is the OL looks bad when the other team blitzes and the QB looks bad when the other team drops into coverage.

  16. hawkforever21 says:

I think one of the many problems that this team has is it’s inability to throw the deep ball, and to defend against the deep ball. So teams playing us are always “in the game”, and we have a tough time coming back from big deficits.

Matt has never been a deep ball threat. He wasn’t coached to be….he was coached to be a short to mid-range passer. I can count on one hand the number of deep completions that Matt has made during his career (or let’s just stick with over the last few years). But I’m going to need a lot more hands to count the number of times I’ve seen him throw into double and even triple coverage…….passes that should never have been thrown…….and his completion % on those is probably about 5%!

So now with a new Off. Coordinator and Holmgren and Zorn both gone, a zone blocking scheme, and little talent in front of him…….well it’s just awful!

Part of me would love to see Holmgren in a presidential capacity, and him bringing Zorn back as the Offensive coordinator……but I think Mora’s got to go. I though the guy was gonna bring something to this team….but he hasn’t at all…….hell I could’ve coached them to 5 wins! St. Louis twice, Detroit, Tampa Bay, SF twice, Houston, Chicago and Jax at home (when Jax was awful). That should’ve been 7 or 8 wins right there.

Anyways, I sure hope they make some smart decisions real fast, before other teams start cherry-picking the available talent. We NEED to have a great draft, and we NEED to pick up some stars in free agency!!
No more over the hill vets for top dollar.

  17. Dukeshire says:

Bobby – If they do bring him back, how would Mora regain any respect from the players that will remain on this team? The play on the field indicates they have very little for him. Can you see this team selling out and buying in for him again?

  18. hawkforever21 says:

I think it’s clear, that for whatever reason, the team has quit on Mora.

Maybe it’s his new schemes with Knapp or Bradley, or maybe it’s his calling out of Mare……who knows, but if there’s the slightest belief that the team has quit on him….he must be replaced immediately.

  19. No, Duke. I don’t. It’s sad. Barring a miracle of a last two weeks, this is, or should be, his final 2 games.
