Mora press conference: ‘This is all new to me’

So is this the worst loss ever at home in Seattle Seahawks history?

I thumbed through the media guide looking for other culprits, but really couldn’t find any this bad.

In 1995, the Seahawks lost the N.Y. Jets at home 16-10 on Nov. 26. The Jets finished 3-13 that year and Seattle finished 8-8 and out of the playoffs. The Jets were 2-9 heading into the game.

In 1980, the Seahawks lost to the N.Y. Giants on Dec. 7 at home, 27-21. The Giants finished 4-12 on the year, while Seattle finished 4-12. The Giants were 3-10 heading into that game.

UPDATE: Here’s one I missed courtesy of STATS Inc.

It’s the first time Seattle has lost to a one-win team since the team’s inaugural season in 1976, when Seattle to the N.Y. Giants in the Meadowlands 28-16 on Nov. 28. The Giants were 1-10 heading into that contest, and finished 3-11 that season. Seattle finished 2-12.

Seahawks head coach Jim Mora was somewhat subdued, but I don’t know if I can really blame him. I mean what more can you say when you’re team comes out and plays like that after going to Houston and playing the way they did.

“I’ve never been 5-9,” he said. “This is all new to me. I’m trying to fight my way through it just like everybody else. Keep coaching hard, that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Mora also reiterated that Seattle was a four-win team last year, and had the extra motivation of trying to double that total coming into today’s game.

“Let’s not lose track of that folks. We were a 4-win team lat year,” he said. “So we’re going, ‘Hey, we can double up our wins, we can be 5-2 at home, with a chance to be 6-2 at home.’ So it’s really disappointing when that doesn’t happen.”

As predicted, Matt Hasselbeck took the blame for one of his worst performances as a pro. He finished 27 of 46 for 256 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. He also had a fumble, and finished with a 45.2 passer rating.

“That’s just one of the disappointing things about today,” Hasselbeck said. “One of my responsibilities is to protect the football, and clearly that wasn’t’ the case today.”

Asked about losing to a one-win team, Hasselbeck said: “I’m speechless about that. It’s not something that I ever thought would happen.”

Three of those interceptions were directed toward receiver Deion Branch, who did not talk to reporters after the game. Branch was targeted 10 times, and finished with four catches for 28 yards.

When asked about Branch’s performance, Mora said he would reserve judgment until after he watched the film.

“I am not trying to shun the question,” he said. “It’s just hard to tell. You see things during a game, and your eyes are so many places, and you go back and look at the film and really analyze it. It will be easier for me to give you an accurate answer tomorrow.”

T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who finished with seven catches for 73 yards, was asked how he thought folks around the league would view his team after they learn Seattle lost to Tampa Bay, and had this to say.

“We suck,” Housh said. “I mean I’m sure that’s what they’ll say. But it is what it is. You can’t change it.”

As far as injuries, long snapper Kevin Houser has a shoulder injury and is at the hospital. Linebacker Aaron Curry has a shoulder injury, which prevented him from getting off a block on the Carnell Williams’ 22-yard touchdown on a screen pass. Julius Jones hurt his ribs but continued to play. And Ben Obomau pulled his hamstring. We’ll get updates on Monday.

Mora said cornerback Kelly Jennings is the team’s backup long snapper. Jennings said he was a long snapper in high school.

“You know, he’s 172 pounds dripping wet,” Mora said. “Not your prototypical long snapper in the National Football League. God forbid we would have had to try a field goal.”

Other tidbits

* Hasselbeck’s only other 4 interception game came against at Arizona on Oct. 24. He had a 18.9 passer rating that day, and Seattle lost 25-17.

* Seattle had 104 yards of total offense in the second half, compared to 263 for Tampa Bay.

* The Seahawks had just 25 total yards in the third quarter.

* The Seahawks struggling in containing talented Tampa Bay tight end Kellen Winslow, who finished with six receptions for 93 yards.

* The Seahawks finished without a sack for a second straight game.

* Josh Freeman came in with eight interceptions in his last two games, but finished 16 of 26 for 205 yards, two touchdowns and one lone interception to Deon Grant.

* The Seahawks were effective running the ball, finishing with 128 yards on 25 carries for a 5.1 yards-per-carry average. Julius Jones had 65 yards on 12 carries, and Justin Forsett had 55 yards on nine carries.

  1. Dukeshire says:

I thought Ryan talking about Jennings being the back up long snapper was a joke. For some reason I though it was Owen Schmitt, I don’t know why.

Mora trying to rationalize more wins = better team is insulting. Last years team, will all their injuries, never played with the ambivalence or the complete lack of discipline this years team has. They will not win either of their remaining two games, they will finish with 5 wins and miles behind last years squad. And that’s appalling.

  2. “Mora trying to rationalize more wins = better team is insulting.”

    Indeed. Very insulting.

  3. Did anyone saw Mora’s interview right before the start of the game.

He said, we are trying to change the attitude of this team to a new attitude. Well, I was watching the game (1st half of it) with my Raiders bodies, and they all said this….this team has been a championship team for years, what does Mora mean by saying that.

I explained that Mora means that he is trying to change the championship attitude to a losing attitude, and he is doing a great job.

Also, I can not believe Mora is using our last years record to save his ass. He truly is a low love and a scum bag.

  4. Could someone explain to me why Moron wear a headset? He doesn’t do sh*t on the side line anyways, so why the head set?

  5. I think Lynch said Schmitt was practicing LS while discussing Hauser ( Total Recall ) ‘s shoulder injury on the sidelines. Did Mora’s ATL teams ever get blown out like this? Like someone pointed out a few week(s) back even last year we were actually competitive in most of our loses.

  6. Eric – you missed the 1994 game against the winless Bengals.

At least last year’s team played hard and only suffered one blowout in the last half of the season (at Dallas) – against teams that finished the year with pretty decent records (at Miami, vs Wash, at Arizona, vs Arizona, vs NE, vs NYJ). Those games all came down to the 4th quarter.

  7. Meant to say low life and a scum bag.

  8. Last year our average margin of loss was 11.9 points with seven losses in double digits.

This year so far our average margin of loss is 18.0 points with 8 losses in double digits and two games left to go.

  9. Dukeshire says:

Yes, but they have more wins so therefore they are a better team.

  10. Audible – can you split that into the first half and second half of the year, also with the average ending record of the opponents?

My guess is there is a big difference and the strange thing is the 2nd half of the year is when the OL injuries really started piling up and Wallace started most of those games. I just assumed the team was playing better as a whole and would carry into this year with a healthy Hasselbeck for another run at the NFC West. Was I ever wrong!

  11. Southendzone says:

So glad others are calling out how hollow the comments of 5 wins this year vs 4 last season are ringing. Complete BS. Last year the injury excuse was valid and this year it’s not. Also good stats on the margin of loss.

This team is much worse than last year’s. It’s clear we are the 2nd worst team in the league. On a neutral field the only team we could beat is the Rams. Perhaps KC we could battle to a tie.

  12. The Falcons lost 6 of their last 8 games in 2005
The Falcons lost 9 of their last 11 games in 2006

Losing is hardly something new to Mora.

  13. rramstad says:

I agree with an earlier poster, absolutely, it is ridiculous to say that if we win five games this year we’re a better team than last year. It shows a complete ignorance of the influence of the schedule, and also how often we were just blown out this year.

(also, below is repost from other thread, posted there in error)

Answering the question, yes, I think this is one of the worst Seahawks losses of all time, and I’ve suffered through quite a few.

The reason this loss is hideous is that we actually have a few decent players on this team. Not one, not two, but a few.

It’s not a big deal when a team that eventually goes 2-14 loses. That team arguably had only one truly talented player, maybe three if you are being generous.

I think we have some fairly talented players, and Tampa, conversely, does not.

So, when we lose, like we did today, clearly it comes down to coaching. Coaching includes both scheme, and player motivation, and for the Seahawks, both sucked.

We made Tampa look like world beaters, and they are a terrible team.

  14. Hammajamma says:

Not to bail out Hasselbeck, but two of those INT’s should go to Branch. What’s abundantly clear now is that this receiving corp is bad. Burleson is the best of the bunch, and without him they are ridiculous. Housh is not a bigger Bobby Engram, he’s a big slot guy who can’t stretch the field and drops tough catches. Branch is done. I was an early defender of a roster spot for him, but he’s a liability now. BO has nothing, and DB is not yet ready to emerge as a reliable target. By comparison, Tampa’s receiver’s looked bigger and faster, with Winslow clearly the best second level player on the field.

Forsett and Jones did men’s work today, but can’t reliably block a blitzing LB. This offense is regressing and the coaches continually fail to counter defensive adjustments. Bad day for Hass, yes. But a good day from him would not have won this game. They do nothing very well, very long, and can’t dominate any aspect of a game.

  15. heyyou_66 says:

    Damn it,
somebody has got to ask him why does this team come out time and time again and look lost and unprepared! Why after half time of so many games have the Hawks come out playing the exact same way with no adjustments and the rivals come out and stomp us? Why does this team look like it is wooped on before a game even starts? Why are so many players still on the field that have obviously “cashed it in”? Why is this team getting worse instead of better? If the fans on this forum can see these things why can’t the coaching staff? It is old and tiresome listening to Moras same old crap after every loss!

here is to a new start in 2010 with a hopefully good draft by a new GM and hopefully coaching staff!

  16. ArterioZ says:

Interesting how last year’s four victory season that was attributed to a rash of injuries is now the benchmark for this year.
Jim Mora is reaching I’m afraid.

  17. Jim Mora is a clown.

  18. FireRuskellNow says:

Fire everyone related to Ruskell including this hack of a coach!!!

  19. madpunter88 says:

I rewound the game and saw the play where Jennings long-snapped then got blown up by the oncoming rush. Good for him for getting in there and doing that. But you have to wonder why no one else on the team can long snap…say someone over 200 pounds? Steve Vallos has barely played all year…couldn’t he be learning how to long snap just in case? Unger can’t snap it 17 yards? Was that really their plan to rely on a 170-pound cornerback — who they kind of need not to get injured — to be the back-up long snapper? Who is the back-up placekicker, Colin Cole?

  20. to (miss) quote marty schotenheimer after his chiefs beat ericksons hawk team in 97 or 98: ” that was the most unpre-paired football team I’ve ever faced” -I feel like that every week as a fan of this team

  21. The only way this ends is if the seats at quest are empty.

  22. “Was that really their plan to rely on a 170-pound cornerback — who they kind of need not to get injured — to be the back-up long snapper? Who is the back-up placekicker, Colin Cole?”

    Damn funny, punter!

What’s so funny is you’re absolutely right? Jennings, really? Jennings who’s too small to play CB is our back-up long-snapper? No doubt that will make Sports Center highlights. I wonder if he can play left tackle?!

  23. Still think thtat Branch and Spencer were TR’s worst moves???

Those were nothing compared to the hose job Timmay did on us by sticking us with Big Jim’s slightly retarded son.

The Todd L, Tim R, Jim M triumverate are going to be running punch lines in NFL circles for decades to come. Leon Lett is cracking jokes about these guys!

  24. madpunter88 says:

What concerns me most is not how bad the Seahawks looked today nor how miserable this season and last have been. What concerns me is that they have not yet hit rock bottom. I would never have thought this even a few weeks ago, but they could very well be worse next year. There could be a 1-15 or 2-14 season in their future unless there is a dramatic change to right this ship. The team that played today was soft and unprofessional. It could get worse folks.

  25. Madpunter, unfortunately that’s true. The Rams didn’t fall to 1-15 immediately – they had a pretty good process to it.

  26. It’s hard as a fan, to take a step back and be level headed. This was an embarassing loss. The team looks utterly flat and demoralized. They became lost in this transition year that was supposed to be smooth. The only thing that transitioned smoothly was the raw number of wins. I have never felt this lost and anxious as a fan. I feel like I am in the middle of an ocean with no rudder or motor. I have no idea what direction this team will head. I have no idea what kind of team this will be. It’s like a complicated piece of furniture from ikea. The seahawks are broken and I don’t think anyone knows where to start or where the pieces fit.

Holmgren as GM: Not gonna happen. FO offered him a BS position so 5 years down the road they are safe from looking like they made a disastrous mistake. It’s on record that they made him an offer that he refused…..it’s BS but we need to move on.

Fire mora: This is also a common idea. He has made public blunders that I feel are detrimental to team moral. This is one mistake he needs to never make again. He is a head coach and needs to understand how to lead his players. The lack of execution is unbearable. But I can’t tell if it’s lack of execution or talent. I would give Mora one more season to prove his worth. The first step of doing so is rooting out the problems and dispatching accordingly.

Problem #1 – offensive line- mike solari – he is an established OL coach. Our lack of protection and front push is because of continuity issues (injuries) and lack raw talent. They have failed at adapting to ZBS. It’s time to end that project or get some new players that are better suited to play it. We are relatively young with our line.. I say ditch the system and play to their strengths which is strength not finesse and timing.

Problem #2 – offensive production – Gregg Knapp – he gets a bad rap because the OL is so horrendous that I’m sure there is only a 60% of plays he’s calling that has the oppurtunity to work out. Towards the last third of the season he has finally ramped up the pass/run ratio. It took too long for knapp to give in to the strength of our team which is passing. He tried to make apple juice with oranges. Knapp speciality is running. Conclusion: Fire Knapp – bring in someone who can squeeze some apples.

Problem #3 – Pass Rush – Gus Bradley – Our lack of pass rush is 85% lack of talent. Out of a rotation of 8 linemen, two stand apart from an average and underperforming DL. Tapp and Mebane. 75% of our DL is expendable. I think our defense has been ok this season. Were pretty darn good against the run (thank you linebackers). But any mediocre Joe that can throw a ball will pick us apart if we have no pass rush. The form of the Tampa 2 Bradley runs glorifies players like Josh Wilson and will work great with trufants skill set, but the zones we let develop require someone coming in to force a pass….we don’t have the talent for that. Keep Bradley but give us some damn talent.

    Bradley – DC – Keep

Mora – HC – Keep for one more year if you put a gun to my head. Otherwise it won’t hurt my feelings if he’s gone.

Knapp – OC – Goodbye please.

  27. seahawklovertoo says:

Before I sign-out I have some questions for all of You bitching about Hass :
if you find out the night before the game that your mentor and best friend has lost any chance of coming back EVER , how would You feel? Knowing that there is a great chance that you are stuck for the rest of your playing time with a moron “coaching” you and calling the plays for you (telling you what to do) ; how would you feel? Losing one of the classiest people among the NFL coaches for a low life cockroach… how would you feel?
People, try to get into others’ shoes before you post .

  28. KelsoHawk says:

A new General Manager should hire his own guy. Mora, Knapp and DeHaven have shown that they are not good coaches. Most like Bradley’s energy, yet look at the defense as a whole or should I say “hole”. Start fresh with a whole new coaching staff and philosophy. I think we need a hard nose, in your face coach that will demand toughness, not hope that it will come around in week fifeteen like Mora suggests. Cowher and Gruden would demand that respect. Assistant Head coach/ Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frasier at Minnesota is going to be in demand also. I have never been so ashamed to be a Hawk fan as I am today. I need a shower.

  29. It’s interesting that people are calling for Knapp and Mora to get fired but not Bradley. I haven’t seen anything from this defense that gives me hope they’ll improve under Bradley. Curry has regressed and we have next to no pass rush. Where is the pressure and all of those blitz packages we were supposed to see? Is there anyone who can explain why we should keep Bradley and not Mora / Knapp?

  30. KelsoHawk says:

I believe the whole staff should go.

  31. ArterioZ says:

‘This is all new to me’

I guess I’m ready for Jimmy Mora to be replaced. If he has no answers, I don’t want him leading this team. There is some serious talent on this squad. It just hasn’t been brought out. If Knapp and Mora were fired by the next GM/Prez, I’d be happy.

  32. ArterioZ says:

I’d have no problem if Bradley was let go as well.

  33. dman1080 says:

Someone please explain to me WHY this team has gotten worse…I am a die hard fan from 1976…I bleed seahawk…and want to take the time to thank Jim Mora, Greg Knapp and the rest of the coaches for putting this sorry product on display! This team is FLAT OUT EMBARRASSING!!! The offense has gotten so dumbed down it is rediculously predictable…my ten year old daughter can tell you what their next play is gonna be.I do not want to sit through another 90′s like season again next year….FIRE Moron and can his STAFF!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! I’M SICK OF HIS EXCUSES! This comes down to coaching and motivating…Some can AND MORA CAN’T! Jim Mora…what have you done lately…besides lose to one of the worst teams in the league at HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to sit through most of this game. Actually, that is fortunate. Of the many, many things that bothers me about the ‘hawks, a couple of things stand out. First, the line seemed to hold up better this week and Matt still had a horrible, horrible game (Sorry Seahawklovertoo, but I don’t think the psychological factors of Holmgren’s deal accounts for it all…the man is a professional). Second, I’m apalled at how unprepared the team is week after weak. It seems obvious to us how bad the coaching problem is, but the alternative is what is really scary…

Anyhow, I’d love to get a response from folks on how the line played today and how talented this team is overall…

  35. Mr. Todd L.

I don’t want to type your full name because it should be “loser” right now. What you should be providing is another “L” word LEADERSHIP, and you are not.

You hired a GM who did not have a winning history in the NFL. and then wondered why the team struggled under his “leadership”

You hired a HC who didn”t have a winning tradition in the NFL. and have watched as he has lost this team. Players don’t play hard for him and his coaches are worse.

You hired an OC. Who was not successful in the last 3 places that he has coached. and has been more predictable than my HS jv basketball team.

Your offensive line cries when they get “called out” I am sorry but you get paid MILLIONS to be tough – suck it up – get out there and protect your QB. In the Arizona game your QB gets cheap shotted and you DO NOTHING. I have never seen a team where Dockett would have been allowed to stay on the field. Either someone would have punched him in the face or took him out!!!! You all should all look in the mirror and cry!

Your DL well throw them all in the trash and start over. REGULARLY today none of them got even a yard into the back field. The LB core had to make all the tackles at the los.

That is the whole problem on this team. From what I see there is not ONE SINGLE person in this franchise that is show any type of leadership AT ALL!!!!

I was embarrased to be Seahawks fan or season ticket holder today.

I felt like everyone in the organization should have walked up to me today shook my hand, apologized, and given me my money back!!!!!!

For the first time in History – I took my jersey off during a game because I didn’t want to be associated with what was happening on the field!!!!!

  36. dman1080 says:

No one is buying into the coaches philosophy or scheme….none of the players are! No one believes these ridculous strategies will work! Mora climb Rainier again…but this time stay there! Don’t come down like last time…..YOU’RE DONE….YOU HAVE RUINED IT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. jonathan says:

Although they deserved to lose 48-0 for the Holmgren ruse, I think the point was made: this organization is in complete free-fall & no one inside the Renton HQ should be employed there past 1/04/10. Too bad Paul Allen seems to be too sick to intervene. Who inherits Vulcan when Paul logs off for good?

  38. Yup,.. yup,.. lots of angry fans in Seattle these days.

Dukeshire:Mora trying to rationalize more wins = better team is insulting.

Yeah, that’s one way to describe it. The word that immediately popped into my head was “childish”. “I got more wins then he had last year” indeed. What a clown that guy is.

You know, when Mora made those remarks about wanting to coach the Huskies on that radio show a few years back I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I speculated that he was cleverly removing himself from the clutches of Arthur Blank. Now I have to reconsider and say the guy’s just dumb.

What a horrible football team. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any team in any league as badly coached as this one,…. ever. Wellll,…. there was that KC team that was dismantled by Herm Edwards. They were pretty bad too. Nevertheless, whoever wins the pathetic pageant, it’s clear that Seattle needs to terminate this crew from top to bottom as soon as they can get their new management in place.

  39. vichawkfan says:

Tod won`t hire a GM that will can Mora….I`ll bet my house on it.

  40. Audible:It’s interesting that people are calling for Knapp and Mora to get fired but not Bradley.

Yeah, that get’s me scratching my head too. While I was watching the game today I kept thinking, “You know, it takes a special effort to make the 4th worse offense in football and a high school quality quarterback look that formidable”.

This defense was bad to begin with and it just keeps getting worse every game.

  41. vichawkfan:Tod won`t hire a GM that will can Mora….I`ll bet my house on it.

Well, if that’s true, then I’d recommend that you go dig your old Mariners’ cap and Jersey out of storage.

  42. I saw Mora tonight with Paul Silvi on “The Jim Mora Show”. His take of the moment is that he inherited a horrible team. He didn’t make it clear whether he was blaming Holmgren, Ruskell or both, but since he was secondary coach the last 2 years, his comments were pretty classless.

  43. You know coaches can’t play the game so they have to make sure they put the team in the best possible scenerio to win and this coaching staff from top to bottom is not doing that what so ever. The sad thing is this team does have some talant and the coaches are clueless on how to use that talant. This was one of the worst losses I have seen as a fan (25+ years) of the Hawks. As the season goes on a team should improve on areas and this team is doing the opposite. It is sad we have the riches owner in the NFL but he isn’t a football guy, a Jerry Jones owner would had Mora and crew’s bag packed after a lost like this. I would take Wade Phillips as sad as this is over the Moron crew anyday.

  44. Steve Kelly has an article up at the Times quoting Holmgren as saying the issue was layers of people between him & Allen / lack of 100% final say as the deal breaker, NOT money.

    Kelly is not pleased………..

  45. Oldbutslow says:

My impression is of a team that does not believe in its coaches. I saw a lot of individual effort, but not much unity. I saw a team that, not for the first time, was not ready to play at the opening whistle.

I found myself wondering, at the end, if our QB was trying to get the head coach fired.

Under less pressure than most of the season, we were throwing into double coverage, missing open receivers, and making strange decisions. Is there a division in leadership here? Is there not?

It is difficult to follow a hall of fame coach, but, it seems curious that the coaches have not yet been “thrown under the bus”.

  46. Fu*k you Moron. How could this be all new to you? You are a Fu*king loser, you have always been, and you will always will be. So, fu*k off.

  47. I don’t know the first thing about being a head coach in the NFL, but Mora’s PR this season has been disappointing. I respect that he wants to go out and try new things every week to find something that works, but the only thing the different failed experiments have in common so far is that he’s the guy who approved the plans. He also doesn’t seem to feel accountable for anything that goes wrong, which is frustrating for me. Then again, maybe that’s how a head coach needs to be. I don’t know.

Regardless, I think we need to seriously rebuild the team and that’s going to take a few seasons to do properly. It’s also going to result in a lot of pain and losses, and we can’t wipe the slate clean every few games. As much as I’m not a fan of his right now, it seems like you need to give him at least three years (assuming this is the first) to have a real impact on the players and system. If there’s broad agreement that he’s not going to be the man, then you have to replace him. However, you also have to reset the clock since the new guy will come in and he’ll need a reasonable amount of time to have an impact.

Also, saying that winning 5 games makes you better than a team that won 4 games without recognizing the drastically different circumstances doesn’t help his case.

  48. piperfeltcher says:

We need to drastically improve the O-line before anyone is going to be successfull. I would like to see us keep the coaching staff for 1 more year and see what they can do. In Holmgrens 2nd year we had a lot of the same problems and I remember a couple games that year at UW (Miami and Philly) were Hassleback could barely get the ball before being hit. It takes a few years for a coach to get his system in place and have it executed properly. Not that I think Mora has done a good job but he also has not had a lot to work.

  49. Holmgren was able to get more production out of his team last season then Mora could ever hope for. Mora is simply not head coach material. He was part of the organization the last 2 years. Somewhere there is a disconnect with him. His coaching was horrible then. Mora is basically a gym rat nothing more. Allen needs to call Holmgren himself and ask for another interview. What a pile of crap this has all become.

  50. So much anger and frustration.

    And rightfully so.

Instead of watching the game on Sunday, we should all put in the tape of the NFC Championship Game at the same time from what seems like forever ago and have a live blog as we watch that. Just kidding (kind of).

  51. HawkSoop says:

“Mora said cornerback Kelly Jennings is the team’s backup long snapper. Jennings said he was a long snapper in high school.”

Are they serious? Really? How is that a reasonable plan at all?

After watching that beatdown I was thinking, “Well at least Mora can’t look dumber.” Now we find out that Jennings is the back up long snapper? That’s just wrong thinking. You are telling me that Vallos, Spencer or Unger are all so incapable of long snapping that it’s better to have 172 lb Kelly Jennings? Seriously?

Someone explain to me why this comment from Mora is not embarassing?

  52. If God granted mercy on the season and ended it today, it looks like our pick would be between 7-10 and the one from Denver would be 21-22. On the bright side, Denver travels to Philadelphia next week and should lose which means that Bronco pick should end up in the teens.

  53. Dukeshire says:

I lifted this from Field Gulls:

If the season ended today, Seattle would pick 7th. The first tie breaker is strength of schedule, something Seattle has a big lead in. The only teams that have weaker SOS are teams not competing directly with Seattle for draft position, so when it comes to tie scenarios, the Seahawks will pick first of the tied teams in round 1.

If Seattle finishes 5-11, meaning the don’t win another game this season, they would draft no worse than 7th. If they lose out and the Redskins win 1 game or more, they will pick 6th. They could also leapfrog Cleveland or KC if those teams win out and Seattle loses out. Absolute best case scenario, the Seahawks pick 4th, but more likely they’ll pick 6th or 7th (assuming they lose out).

    Thanks Kearly

Anyone know what the salary increase for guys picked 7th vs guys picked 4th?

I am eagerly awaiting the decision on our new PFO / GM. Hopefully whoever it is can shake up this roster & coaching staff quickly. I can’t wait to see a competitive product on the field.

Is it me, or was last year’s team a lot more entertaining to watch than this one? Seems like this year we’ve been blown out a lot. Whoever our coach is next year I just hope they figure out how to get and keep this team’s competitive juices flowing (I know that Mora is still our coach and likely will be next year, but hey I can hope can’t I?)

Is this team worse than the ’92 Seahawks, widely considered the worst Seahawks team of all time? A couple quick things to chew on:

In ’92 they ranked 28th is scoring offense and 17th is points allowed. Compared to 22nd PF and 21 PA with 2 games left this season.

In ’92 the ave. point margin per loss was 12.78. That includes being shutout in consecutive games in weeks 6 & 7. So far this season they are losing by an ave. of 16.33 points per game.

In ’92 they had a 1000 yard rusher (1016) in Chris Warren. J. Jones leads with 563 with 2 games left (Forsett has 475)

The ’92 team had two players in the pro bowl; Cortez Kennedy and Eugene Robinson. The ’09 team will likely have none.

This is just a brief glance, but I trust that if I were to do an in depth analysis, a very convincing argument could be made. The fact I’m even making this comparison, with everything this franchise has available to them to be successful is an embarrassment to the city and their fans.

Regardless of who our new GM is going to be, how can this coaching staff be retained? There is no plausible way to justify keeping these guys. We actually seem to get worse as the season goes on. Things that seem fairly obvious to us are apparently too complicated for our head coach.

It seems like so long ago now that I was kind of excited to have a new, younger, energetic coach. Now I want to tar and feather him. The coaching staff needs to be held “accountable” to itself.

I hope Jeff Fisher comes available

  57. bulldog80 says:

One more thing guys. I thought it was hilarious, in a macabre kind of way, to hear him talk in the pregame about “changing the culture” here about us being thought of as soft. He’s changed the culture alright, from playoff team to laughing stock. I’ve seen all that i care to from this staff.

  58. Dukeshire says:

JefF Fisher. That would be something but he’s beloved in Tenn. I can’t imagine they’d let him walk.

  59. No player interviews after the game this week? Interesting.

If Mora has really pissed off this team with his silly remarks and with the way he calls out players, there may be a lot of veterans who want him fired.

Remember, most of these guys are used to being coached by someone who knows what the hell he’s doing. Then Mora takes over.

BobbyK….can you grade our Oline by position with all the changes this week?

TL will be hard pressed to find a top-tier GM candidate willing to “join us” knowng he will be forced to retain the some or all of the current coaching staff. Opportunity wasted.

  61. I couldn’t help but laugh watching the game Sunday. Man, this sucks. I’m afraid no one will be able to come in here and fix things, this team is garabage. By the time this team turns around, Hass will be gone and we’ll have to sit through a rookie coming of age. Time is going to seem like it is going to stand still waiting for this team to represent. I really have no faith in TL. I was hoping getting rid of Ruskell would solve most of the problems, but obviosly its deeper than that. It seems like the organization is dragging their feet, giving the fans a curtousy reach around with their late and fake ass attemp to bring Holgram in this weekend out of the blue, even though he wasn’t on the original list (hmmmm). I’m not even that big of a Holmy fan, but sh!t man, start talkin to some people and get this thing movin’ forward. Each week this team is becomng more of a joke. I’m embarresed to be a fan right now.I miss the Sonics more than ever now : (
P.S. If Cleaveland turns it around before us, wow, it will be interesting to see what everyone thinks then.

  62. Audible – I don’t have time right now, but I can say, overall, I thought they played okay. It was a case of terrible playing terrible (our OL vs. their DL). We’ll be able to see improvement the next two weeks, as GB/Ten have decent DLs.

  63. princeaden says:

I pray that somehow PA has some sort of an epiphany here in the next few hours and contacts Holmgren on his super secret batphone and tells him he fired Mora and to come back and have all the control he wants in terms of football and Leiweke will leave him alone to do it his way…… It’s still not too late.

  64. Giving Holmgren complete control might not be the answer, but it could have been. But now, just get someone in here that knows football, has had success in football and let start doin this rebuild now. Kicking around rocks and waiting is what cost us the opportunity to talk to Holmgren. I’m not saying rush it, but come on, throw some viable names out their for us and start this proccess. The fans are pissed, talk to them, let them know what is going on. They are the ones that will be leaving the seats empty if shit doesn’t start changing.

  65. Okay now that I have had a chance to calm down (NOT) and re-watch part of the game – I know – who knows why.

I want to add about our WR and DB’s on the carpet – some might be coaching issues but others are not.

Did anyone notice for the ENTIRE 2nd half. There was always at least 1 TB receiver running through the defense with at least 2 yard cushion between him and the nearest seahawk defender?!?!?!?!?!?!

Then on the flip side – there were I think 3 plays in a row where Matt got decent time and there was never a reciever more than 6 inches from a TB defender. There were a few passes that were forced in and caught. A few that were dropped, knocked down or an INT.

Then out beloved QB – who I think is still servicable -not great )- but servicable.
Who all day long totally missed wide open guys by not throwing them the ball because he didn’t see them at all!! OUCH CHARLIE!!

  66. Someone just posted on another thread that Holmgren accepted the job in Cleveland.

  67. That is just going to add insult to injury if we have to watch Cleveland rise from the ashes while we’re still smoldering in football hell.
