Today’s inactives: Rankin, Bryant out

There’s not too many surprises here. Running back Louis Rankin is on the inactive list, which means either Justin Forsett or Josh Wilson will be used as a kick returner.

Red Bryant also is on the inactive list, so I take it the Seahawks don’t expect the Texans to try and run the ball. Also, D.D. Lewis, who is a Texas native and wanted to play in this game, will be inactive because of a sprained knee.

Here’s the full list.

Seattle
RB Louis Rankin
LB D.D. Lewis
OL Mike Gibson
OL Mansfield Wrotto
DT Red Bryant
TE Cameron Morrah
DE Derek Walker

Mike Teel will serve as the 3rd QB

Houston
WR Glenn Martinez
SS Nick Ferguson
RB Chris Henry
CB Mark Parson
OG Tutan Reyes
DE Tim Bulman
DT Frank Okam

Dan Orlovsky will serve as the third QB.

It looks to me like Bryant and Wrotto have definately fallen out of the coaches favor since both were penciled in as possible starters and certian contributors at the beginning of the season. It looks to me like we will be needing to address the backup roles on the LOS as well. I thought Wrotto played well at the end of last year. Maybe he isn’t suited for this ZBS. I don’t know enough about it. This “rebuilding process” we’re coming into runs deep.

I’ll have to double check but wasn’t Bryant inactive against the Viks, SF and StL? Teams that either run heavily or have solid running games. He must be really unimpressive in practice.

Very excited to see Wilson returning kicks again.

  3. Dukeshire says:

Wrotto had injury issues (ankle?) earlier in the season that may still compound his poor play. Why this team is restricting Bryant’s growth is beyond me. He needs snaps in NFL regular season games to see if he can progress or if he’s incapable of playing at this level. There is too much potential there to waste in favor of Craig Terrill, IMO.

  4. Bryant did hurt his knee in the MN game. He was about 10 feet in front of me when the training staff was looking at him (and they were discussing the sprained knee — although I don’t think they knew it was sprained at the time). They had him running a few 5 yard sprints out of his stance and each time he’d grab his knee in a minor way afterwards and I could tell he was talking about how something didn’t seem too wrong but there was a tweak he was a bit concerned about. It was pretty cool because the first quarter was quiet and I could get bits and pieces of Solari talking to the OL too. I like that stuff.

Okay, so he was active for Minn, but if there is an injury concern, why is he not listed in the injury report?

Total agreement about the Bryant/Terrill situation. It dumbfounds me.

  7. I think Terrill might be the better pass rusher at this point so this makes some sense. This team doesn’t need anymore help in stopping the run – they need any pass rushing ability they can get.

The Seahawks have allowed just 1, 100 yard rusher this year which is something considering al the blowouts and have allowed just 4-5, 100 yard rushers the last 2 years.

The team is clearly playing to win now rather than developing players for the future. If the team was playing for the future, they would start Teel over Hasselbeck just to see if they need to draft a QB.
