Well, I don’t know that many people had too high of expectations going into this game. I know I didn’t.
But still, I managed to be disappointed even with the low expectations. Yes, the Vikings are an extremely good team, probably the best in the NFC, but Seattle just didn’t play very well. That was the frustrating thing.
With the exception of David Hawthorne, and possibly Justin Forsett, I didn’t see many other positives.
If I had to make the Windows 7 recap for this game — awful, terrible, craptastic, sucktastic, unentertaining, uninspired, putrid.
To be honest, I wouldn’t bet my house on the Hawks beating either Tampa or St. Louis if they had a similar peformance – games we figured as sure wins a few weeks back.
But enough from me, go ahead and vent.
Well, they got humiliated. I expected a loss but that was awful.
This was a very disappointing contest. This team is a weak team that is poorly coached and undisciplined.
This team is the result of the ’5 year plan’ of Ruskell, he just has to go; and so do many of the expensive veterans who added little to the result for the day. Our 4th overall draft pick also had a singularly undistinguised day for the 2nd week in row.
I can’t see the Hawks doing better than 5-11 now.

More terrible playcalling. Another penalty filled disaster. This team barely has the talent to be an NFL caliber team. Barely. It’s coaches and GM are clearly not. There should be some pink slips and packed bags waiting for coaches and GM when they get home.
Pathetic. Simply pathetic.

Game went about exactly how I expected. Really nothing was too suprising.
A pretty good (not great) team beating the ever loving hell out of a completely inept team in need of a top to bottom rebuild.
The thing about Hawthorne is I haven’t seen him show much ability to fight through an OL block. He makes a lot of plays but it seems to be usually following the play, scraping without contact or in pass coverage.
Forsett? Nice change of pace back.. but that’s it.
OL and DL? Maybe 2-3 total that belong on the field for an NFL team.
How much longer do we have to wait for Ruskell to be gone?
× Flag comment
In the 2010 free agency and draft Seattle needs help in almost every area but no where do they need more help than on the O line. Sadly, that is the one area that Ruskell is not inclined to improve.
× Flag comment
Solution = remove Ruskell, and bring in a GM who actaully appreciates the value of a solid Oline.
× Flag comment
That was pathetic! We have the talent to play with the vickings but there was no drive, terrible play calling, really terrible performances all around. Matt Hasselbeck played terrible! And the penalties are inexcusable! This team needs to wake up and play with some enthusiasm and act like they care and if they don’t GET RID OF THEM!!!
× Flag comment
Sad. Just… sad. As Divish said in the OP, I was disappointed despite having low expectations. 3rd and 1, Jumbo set and Griffith gets dropped for a loss (somewhere, Duckett is laughing). Down by a crapload of points, 3rd and 11 and the Hawks RUN!?! WTF?
Anyone know how the 2010 cap looks at the moment? We may have 2 top ten picks this draft :-/
× Flag comment
No Running game what can you expect. 3 and out all season.
× Flag comment
With all the FA signings and the upcoming FAs it is nearly useless to try to predict where they are now. Since Lewike, they have been pretty good at keeping the cap under control.
× Flag comment
It’s a good thing we found our running game savior in Justin Forsett HAHA!!!! Straight Garbage! This entire organization is complete garbage right now!
× Flag comment
Dude, A. Peterson could be running for the Hawks and, behind our O Line, his numbers would suck too.

Two words PEE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

i hear mike shanahan is available.

“We have the talent to play with the vickings”
I’m sure we do have the talent to play with the Vickings, which I heard was Michael Vick’s AKG sponsored National Youth Football League team, but the Vikings, on the other hand, no, we do not have the talent to play with them.
Clearly.
Obviously.
Indisputably.

bring in otogwe, wilfork, johnny jolly, jahri evans, and jared gaither, cut grant, cole, kerney, locklear, spencer (let unger take over)
Draft Mays, trade the 2nd 1st rounder for a LG, best available RB in the 2nd, best available CB over 6 ft in the 3rd, address nit-picking needs the rest, then profit.
× Flag comment
Dude, we DO have the talent. The problem is, none of them can get on the same sheet of music (or else they’ve got their heads up their @ss).
× Flag comment
Those of who, who are spouting off about how horrible this is must have had high expectations from a team coming off a 4-12 season in 2008.
How can you bring in high expectations for a team that really didn’t bring in to much over the off season except for Curry and Housh? Granted they brought in Redding, and so on, they’re not going to carry this team. They did little to nothing for their O-Line during the offseason. Sure Unger may turn out to be a good pick, but Im actually seeing a worse team than last year.
If you look at their games last year, you can see that they were able to keep the scores relatively close. This season is blowout loss after blowout loss. I think the front office see’s this and are weighing all their options. You can’t expect miracles to happen over night!!

No one said Forsett was a savior. He had absolutely no room to run. He was hit, from my count, 6 of his 8 attempts behind the line. Receiving, he is very effective in space, that’s obvious. But until there are either holes open for him or at the very least, time for him to get back to the line, expect more of the same from anyone they put back there.
× Flag comment
Forsett had 8 rushes for 9 yards, I don’t find that positive. But I guess he had a good screen pass or so…
× Flag comment
We don’t have talent. We have has-beens and never-gonna-bes playing around Holmgren’s archaic relics.
× Flag comment
I think it’s more of a 2 year plan! Or so I would like to think…. They should have started rebuilding after the loss of Hutchison… Im not sure where they headed after losing him…. Other than the bottom of the pack!!
× Flag comment
Wonder if Housh is thinking he should have stayed put in Cincy!?!?!
× Flag comment
Please get Mike back in the Organization, least he brought some respect to the entire organization. Let him be the Seahawk God.
× Flag comment
I love how Ruskell has a two year plan… with one year left in his contract. Sounds like he’s running for re-election, lol.
× Flag comment
We are worse this year with about the same amount of talent; the difference is the coaching. Argggh.
× Flag comment
That’s is my point. We could put Big Black back there and he could run as long as he has some holes. It really doesn’t matter how great you running back is if he doesn’t have the room
× Flag comment
It’s not enough that they were better – we had to have penalty after penalty, fumbles on kickoff returns (again), not that they needed the help.
I can see why Favre has had so much success this year – he’s got a nice line that gives him time, and he’s stil a real accurate thrower. Put Matt in that same role, he’d do fine too – and put Brett on our side, and he’d retire mid-season.
They’re a good squad – our D actually looked alright early, but you can’t give a good offense the ball over and over again and not expect them to get it going.
I think Forsett is a player – as Duke said, he had zero space in the running game – but give him just a little room, as in his receiving, and he’s quick and elusive. He’s a keeper for next year.
Don’t know what’s happened to Curry – he showed real playmaking promise for a few games there – lately i’ve barey noticed him.
Like others here – didn’t expect to win it – but had hopes of being competitive – we were just not good enough to do it.
× Flag comment
We would be 0-10 right now if it weren’t for some of Holmgren’s archaic relics that we still have. I would hate to see this team without Matt, Burleson, Forsett, Locklear, Sims, and Lock. If you think things are bad now, just wait until TR gets his hands on those positions.
× Flag comment
at the start of year, one of my friends, longtime Niner fan, said, “Knapp? You’re going to hate him.”
Indeed.
The coaching is terrible. But the General Manager hired the coaching.
× Flag comment
griffincsb – 8 receptions for 80 yards. So you would be right in thinking he “had a good screen pass or so…”
× Flag comment
BobbyA – That’s funny. A good friend of mine from the Bay area (long time niner) said the exact same thing to me.

I know how Ruskell thinks and this is how he will look at the O line in the off season:
W Jones is more than a year removed from surgery. He will come back and have a pro bowl year. Locklear is due to have a healthy 16 game season. Willis is good enough to start. I can bring back McIntosh and Frye. Seattle is set at OT.
Seattle has three above centers in Spencer, Unger and Vallos.
Sims has found a home at LG. The RG can be Wrotto or a backup center. By next season the new zone blocking scheme will be effective.
Ruskell will sign an over the hill never was O lineman and use a fifth round pick on someone who will get thrown around like Raggedy Andy but he will have ‘upside’.
That just won’t cut it.
Scrap the zone blocking and bring in drive blockers.
As much as Seattle needs help at safety, what the D needs more is help on their line. Suh, or maybe Gerald McCoy.
× Flag comment
You’re right Hasselbeck would be good for the VIckings, I say we trade him for their first round draft pick, it would be a late pick, and then we could get our early QB, an offensive tackle, and probably a guard and a safety. The Vickings have Farve for one year, I think hasselbeck could step in right away and they wouldn’t loose a step and we could begin building for the future.
× Flag comment
What the hell is Hasselbeck talking about!!!! He said that they haven’t had a season like this and they aren’t use to it. WHAT!!!!!!! Last year!!!
× Flag comment
The Vikings would never give us a 1st rounder for Hass…so you can put that dream to rest.
× Flag comment
It’s time for Paul Allen to step up and make some needed changes. This team has gotten worse every year since the Super Bowl under Tim Ruskell. I think Jim Mora might make a solid college coach, but he just isn’t getting it done on this level, and his coordinators are awful.
× Flag comment
@ Seahawks2620
Last year the Hawks were decimated by injuries. This year hasn’t been as bad (although it hasn’t been good either). The problem this year has been in execution of plays. My ASSumption is that this is what Hasselbeck was referring to.
× Flag comment
Why wouldn’t the Vikings give us a first round pick for Hass, I think he fills an obvious need for them. I think thats ignorant not to think about that as a viable scenario. The Vikings should feal as though they have all of the peices in place and for them to keep it going for the next few years they’ll need continuity from the QB position, something Hass could provide after Favre goes to a nursing home.
× Flag comment
An obvious need? I’m presuming you watched the game today where Favre threw 4 td passes on 22 of 25. What need do they have to fill with Matt Hasselbeck. Beyond that, he’s the Seahawks QB and leader. He goes nowhere. Good lord.
× Flag comment
We might get a fifth rounder for Hass, aka our new starting LT next season.
× Flag comment
As long as the Vikings have a good O’line, Favre could play for another 3-4 years, easy….he’s incredibly durable, passionate about the game, and is having a heck of a lot of fun again. Why would he retire after this year? Why would the Vikings try to replace him? He may be playing after Hass has retired, and especially if we don’t fix this O’line soon!
× Flag comment
Wow !! get rid of Haas?? about the only tough guy, play through injuries, player!! Knows the position!! I believe he an outstanding player on a confused OFFENSE. Why anyone would consider trading away a guy like Haas is beyond me! The O-line is /or atleast I hope will come around with time and maybe 2 new additions. We have the people that will be quality backups at tackle and 1 gaurd. I believe WR will also get better, minus one overpaid squirt,
I believe Running back 1-tackle, 1 gaurd and a whole lot of defense needs upgrading. Again there is quality backups on the D-Line, absolutley no pass rush. I think it’s the scheme that does not work in the NFL, You have to be able to pressure the QB all day long, with or without the blitz, we just don’t have it!! And then there is Mr. 24 did you see him wiff on the Touchdown down the middle on the goal line?? It coulda been any WR the result would have been the same. Same with Mr Babs 27 he is an excellent backup. Should be another 2 years before we can get serious about contending with all the holes we have. Is Ruskell the guy to do it?? …dont think so.
× Flag comment
You’re right he is our leader, but sombody needs to be sacrificed. Yes I watched the game obviously he wouldn’t be traded until after the season and the Vikings only have a one year contract with favre. I like hasselbeck as much as the next fan, but the NFL is a business and we need to get younger and assuming farve can’t keep playing until he’s 50 that creates the need. Just being presumtious so whatever. If we can keep Hass and build a team that wins that would be great, but it’s not going to work by bringing in a bunch of veteran has-beens and relying on Walter Jones to come back. Just saying if we’re going to get a rookie QB do it now, get rid of Hass while you can get something for him and move forward. Thats all the arguing I have on this topic, maybe I’m just getting desperate, but this team is PISSING ME OFF!!!
× Flag comment
If we could trade Hass to Detroit or Cleveland and have a top 5 draft pick next year, I might consider letting him go as long as we use that pick to draft one of the top QBs in the draft next year. But, again….no team in their right mind would trade there #1 for Hass, let alone a top 5 #1.
× Flag comment
Then, of course, there’s always Crazy Al and the Raiders.
× Flag comment
Of course, TR would use our three #1 picks to grab a LB, Corner, and Center as the best players available.
× Flag comment
I can’t believe that they are considering giving Ruskell an affitional two years! WTF? Where is Mora’s attacking defense and top ten NFL rushing game?
In the past when the Hawks were lousy the brought in top notch proven coaches the turned the team arounf (Chuck Knoc & Mike Holgren). Mora’s a nice guy but clearly is not a championship level coach. There are PROVEN coaches out the to be had. Cower, Shanahan, Tony Sungy, and of course the Big Show. I trust Big Mike to shop us a new QB in the draft more than Ruskell…not that Matt is finished. Ruskell foes’t get that bigger WRs and secondary are a huge afvantage… This team is undersized. The Tim & Jim show must go!
Paul Allen is able to make any off these “retired” coaches “an other the can’t refuse!”
× Flag comment
Someone mentioned that Allen may ignore the Seahawks because of his healthy problems…perhaps, though…if it has to take more time away from work, he may be following the team more closely…maybe that would be a good thing. If he was as enthusiastic as some of us on here, you would expect some major changes this offseaon…which officially started last week.
× Flag comment
I’m becoming more and more concerned (and convinced) that a new contract will be announced for Ruskell.
Listening to Holmy on KJR a couple of weeks ago, he threw out the line that he loves Seattle and would love to stay here.
Last week he said he would enjoy talking with Cleveland and gave some indication he already has been. Which would indicate that noone with Seattle took the hint and reached out to him.
I can’t imagine anyone else Paul Allen would begin the conversation about GM/Pres with if it weren’t Holmy.
I’m starting to believe he doesn’t plan on making a change. My guess is that Ruskell will be back with a new deal to be announced sometime before the end of the season.
× Flag comment
We can kill the “trade Hass” conversation. If he goes anywhere it’s because we cut him and he signs somewhere else. (Which isn’t all that far out of the realm of possibility.)
× Flag comment
If Ruskell is still here next year we can count on a re-run of 2009.
What I saw today looked like a team that quit. The defense in particular. Hasselbeck, Forsett, Hawthorne are guys that play for 60 minutes. The others? They checked out of this game early on.
× Flag comment
After the first 1/2 penalties, it is evidnt the team is not paying attention to their coaches.
Time for a house cleaning of upper management group.
× Flag comment
Wow…how depressing. Is that really all Mora has to say?! Maybe they should try wearing black pants because research has shown teams with black colors tend to be more intimidating. Really???? Give me a break!
× Flag comment
Please someone slap me,so I can wake up from this nightmare. It’s time to get rid of Ruskell and bring back Mike Holmgren as GM . And I hate to say this but thanks for the memories Matt , It was a nice ride , But we need to get a younger QB in the April ? Santa!!!
× Flag comment
Or Matt just needs an OL who can give him a running game and ample time to throw.
× Flag comment
I think Mora has as much responsibility for this teams performance as anyone… the fact is these guys are not playing for him… At least when Holmgren was here the team played for him… The fact that this is Mora’s first year is not an excuse for allowing for the mistakes that are being made…. I say the Hawks should Hire Holmgren as pres/GM and let him proceed to do what he thinks is the right avenue… if it means getting rid of Mora than so be it….
