The Seattle Seahawks announced some minor reshuffling of the roster this afternoon, cutting wide receiver Mike Hass and adding defensive lineman Derek Walker to the active roster.
The Seahawks also released offensive guard Brian De La Puente from the practice squad. It would seem that move was made to clear a spot for Hass on the practice squad.
Walker originally made the 53-man opening day roster, but was released and signed to the practice squad on September 15. He was inactive against St. Louis in the first game of the season
Seattle added Hass to the team’s practice squad on September 7, and later signed him to the active roster on November 3 because Ben Obomanu (oblique) was injured. However, Hass was inactive for the Detroit game.
The Seahawks could have signed Walker to the active roster to protect him from other teams interested in his services.
Dan Snyder and Tim Ruskell??? Sounds like a match made in heaven.

Right on—Brian De La Puente will never cost us another game!

I wish the Hawks would cut Ruskell

This seems like a good move for ’10. Nobody is going to want to sign Hass from our PS, whereas Walker has value to a terrible team looking to add decent players from other teams prior to the end of the season.
It’s kind of like us losing Michael Bennett. We lost a player I’m mad that we lost to a team who sucks and was looking to improve by adding good, young talent for a future year.

If the season ended today, we’d either pick 9-10-11-12-or-13 with our own first rounder. The Denver pick would be somewhere between 24-29. Sounds like Brian Bulaga (left tackle) and Mike Johnson (left guard) to me. Although I would fully support trading both first rounders to Detroit for their top pick, and a 3rd rounder, to get Suh (could still go OL with our early pick in the 2nd and the first pick in the 3rd from Detroit). And then Myron Rolle in the 4th (SS).

seriously…make the choice on ruskell now…..if he is gone ok, let it be known and get the new holmy ….errrr…guy in.
What I have like most about the Hawks the past decade is they are likeable, and you want them to do well…..do you feel the same connection now?
I live near Buffalo and the media, fans and team hate each other…I don’t want that again, and Holmy is the most professional that I have had a chance to witness (from afar)

I’m glad you mentioned Myron Rolle. By all accounts he will be entering this years draft and I would love to have him as a Seahawk. I’d be very surprised however if he made it to the 4th round. I also don’t see anyway they take 2 o-linemen in the 1st. Bulaga or maybe someone like Russell Okung with their first pick but I don’t see 2. Speculating at this point however is just that. So much can change between now and draft.

So much changes between the night before the draft (unfortunately that is now a *****ing wednesday night, ugh) and draft day that it is basically pointless to speculate until AFTER the picks are in.
But pointless topics have never slowed us down in the past
I would go OT, OG, S or RB, QB, CB ..
I don’t see us having a shot at Berry, so we may as well wait until later to pick up a safety.. There should be a good safety option in the 2nd round, unless a top running back has fallen to us.. But, I see us making a LOT of moves on draft day this year, especially with all the time between rounds..
While I have found myself cursing Ruskell’s name several times this season (I kept my composure through last year’s collapse) this topic just made me reflect on last year’s draft for a minute.. Think back, we were ALL so stoked by all the moves Ruskell had made that day. Even Ruskell’s most passionate detractors were commending him on a beautifully orchestrated offseason.. That Denver pick was SURE to be a top 10 pick back in April.. Things change, and suddenly Ray Willis wasn’t depth at the OT position anymore either.. That’s the life an NFL GM, where 31 other GM’s are trying to do the same thing you are..
Ruskell might not be perfect, but he ain’t Matt Millen either..

Thanks to all who rooted against the Broncos last night, even though it meant swallowing the Poison Pill of rooting for the Stealers. Our first round pick is now starting to rise in value with each denver loss.

right on, snydro. You’re brave to defend our GM in any way here… its like stepping into the midst of friendly fire! Keep your head down.
I think its insane that anyone would critcize the offseason Ruskell put together this past year. Those decisions can only be made in real time, not with hindsight, and his decisions were largely excellent. No one can predict the future, and if Ruskell next focuses on an offense rebuild, and then we get a slew of injuries on defense, the crowd here will be calling him an idiot for not seeing that coming.
Me, I’m excited to see what players TR’s staff will come up with after they focus on offense through this next offseason.

I felt gross rooting for the Steelers. But, sometimes you have to be a fanwhore..
× Flag comment
Yeah, rooting for the Steelers sucked… but it is what it is…
The biggest problem with Ruskell is spending lots of money on players and making them close to the highest paid at their positions… even though they aren’t close to being the best at their positions. Or a guy like Cole. He’s fine and all… but well overpaid for what Green Bay thought of him and for what he is… I’m not saying he’s bad… but he is bad for his value of what he’s paid versus his production… If he’s a million dollar guy, then we’re all happy with him… but he’s not, and we’re not…
I have no problem spending HUGE bucks on players if they are truly the best at what they do in the NFL. Jahri Evans, for example, is one of the best OL in the league (even though he’s “just a guard”). I don’t care. If you’re the best… you deserve to be paid like it. Legit Pro Bowlers aren’t exactly a dime a dozen.

only mistake Ruskell made was not having a back-up plan beyond Locklear at LT given the Walter Jones injury/surgery/recovery expectation.
Is it me or is Locklear the slowest healing person on the planet? For the love of gawd, show some toughness man!!
× Flag comment
I’d rather continue grooming and fixing up the defense with the 1st draft pick (safety, taylor mays), and get a LT with the 2nd 1st rounder, someone that can be groomed a little and made better with time, assuming w. Jones comes back. And if he doesn’t, we have a legit (hopefully) left tackle to fill his shoes.
Honestly, the rest of the draft picks could be traded towards established o-line and d-line players, and I wouldn’t care.
I would rather put hasselbecks health in the hands of more mature, established blockers than rookies.

I am in purgatory hell… I don’t support Stevos and his love for Ruskell (I think he would give him a BJ if he could…lol…stevos – settle down, it’s all in good fun and it’s figure of speech:). But I’m not in the “fire Ruskell NOW” group either. All I know is that heads need to roll and people need to be executed if the OL isn’t given a little love this off-season. And when I say “a little,” I actually mean A LOT!!!
× Flag comment
Lock is in that “slow healing” category. That’s for sure.
I agree, kevin. That’s part of the reason I hope like heck we can sign a star FA OL. I don’t want Matt’s health totally up to a bunch of rookies. I drink the Jahri Evans kool-aid and all I know is that he and Willis on the right side could take care of 3rd and 1 most of the time. Even if we go Bulaga/Johnson in the first round… and even if they are rookies… we’ll still have a great vet right side (assuming Evans makes it to FA and doesn’t resign, which isn’t exactly a sure thing even if we offer the most $… think Dielman).

….WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a little confusing. If Hass was cut and Walker moved from practice squad to active roster, why would they need to cut De La Puente to clear a spot for Hass on the PS? Wouldn’t the spot Walker vacated be open for Hass? Doesn’t this mean there is now an open spot on the practice squad that still needs to be filled?
× Flag comment
There is so much what ifs and speculation here, my head is spinning. I’m just going to think about the game Sunday against the Cards.

I think stevos is Tim ruskell, or, failing that, it’s a certainty he hails from the greater Tampa region.

BobbyAyala, some people who hail from Tampa wear Super Bowl Rings, so think twice before you casually diss someone.

BobbyK, my “love for Ruskell”? What love? Defending someone who is being unfairly criticized by know-nothings is not the same as praising someone. I’ve criticized Ruskell as often as praised his work. I have also pointed out, maybe too frequently, that most of the people who scream for him to be fired have no idea what a GM actually does for a living, who the good GMs are, or why.
When I see people unfairly attacked, I tend to defend them. I can’t help it. BobbyK, I would even defend You if people were attacking you while you were at your job down at the convenience store mopping up spills and vomit. Its just the kind of guy I am.

Denver selected cornerback Alphonza Smith with our second round pick.

A midget CB:)
Thanks for the love stevo. But I work at an “upscale” convenience store:)

CUT RUSKELL!!!! Please, pretty please.

Whew!!! Lots of great debate over our GM spot…!!! Be it TR, Holmy or someone else, next year, that person will have no choice but to address the offensive line needs… most probably in overkill…. For me, I still continue to feel we have significant talent on the field, but how that talent is being used is a failure… Argue all we want about the GM spot, the coach and staff needs to step up and do their job. I don’t believe that’s happening… A change needs to happen on that sideline….

IBGoofy – Thank you for that. Mora can climb a mountain, but he is not an NFL coach. We need a high-profile coach here again. Football is a hard-nosed game, we need a hard-nosed coach. How often did we see Holmgren light up a player on the sideline for not doing his job. Don’t see that with Mora, do ya? We need that back, badly….
× Flag comment
Oh yeah, Mora did call out the kicker at a press conference.

Stevos- your crazy if you think ruskell has done a good job- just look at the defensive he has put together. The safety play is shaky, the corners are too small, all the money is tied up in the LB position, DL is aging (kerney & Redding) and jackson and tapp are not good enough players to be consistent. Ruskell has had 5 years to give us a a top 10 defense and we are not!!! If it wasn’t for the those 2 blowout winsthis season are defesne ranking would be horrible. I don’t have enough faith in ruskell to rebuild our Oline and get us a RB and a QB for the future. Do u seahawk fans? Just look at the defense he has put together. The defense was suppose to define this team and its not up to snuff. I watched the lions teams move up and down the field on our defesne last week and we got lucky that a rookie QB kept throwing us the ball (5 picks) Just wait till next week when Warner throws 5 TD passes against us. I just sayin

Jesus Christ…. There’s a lot of Steelers haters out here. Why the hatred for the Steelers.. They did nothing wrong. If you can remember far enough back it was the referees. To me, seeing the Steelers win (or lose) is the same as any other team out there who win’s or loses! Then again, maybe Im out there alone with that thought…
Anyway, I think Paul Allen will give Ruskell another year or two, along with Mora. You should be able to get more than just 1 season to prove yourself as a head coach (especially during a rebuilding period)! I know he was head coach for Atlanta and what not, but this is a new area, new team, and we shouldn’t kick Mora to the curb just because of a 3-5 start…. Hell… It could be worse….

My girlfriend and her entire family are big Stealers fans. I came home the other night and she had her terrible towels cleaned and fluffed and ready for action…so imagine my pain! Though, I told her, if she pulls those out when they play the hawks and I’m going to wipe my a*) with them.

While I have no ‘love’ of Ruskell I also don’t hate him.
He’s likely going to be re-signed (just my hunch) and people on here are going to be throwing themselves of the nearest bridge or high building.
Now on the other hand if he is let go I’ll just say ‘OK, let’s see what the next guy can do…”
I still stand by my position that even if Ruskell is let go Holmgren may not necessarily be the best fit. He was TERRIBLE in his last stint as GM here. He was the best HC Seattle has ever had, but the last few years my now 12 year old son could predict the next offensive play even before the team broke the huddle.
There is way too much Ruskell hatred and entirely too much Holmgren devotion in Seattle fans.
× Flag comment
Chuck… I feel the same way you do about the GM position… Someone else mentioned about the Holmy scenario, wherein he might be a different GM if he wasn’t also coaching…. I feel that is pretty valid… and Holmgren is a class guy…. Regardless of who’s out there though as GM, they will address the Off Line situation… LOL!!! Probably a ‘fine print’ item in their contract for the sake of fan support at the entry gate!
Flywht… You put into words the feelings I have about Mora… “I” don’t want to HEAR him anymore… really… I heard a number of Gruden game summaries and I love to listen to him… He calls a spade a spade… No flowers and soft music! I like factual people… As far as the ‘kicker callout’ incident, I looked at that as a blame… guessing Mora lost a LOT of TEAM respect on that display…. He may never get that respect back… That may be a key to where we are today….

Holmgrens first stint as GM was not a very good one, but he understood the situation and relinquished his role. You can’t argue with his ability to lead, and we need someone that can bring an identity to this team. I don’t think Ruskell has done a bad job, but we need to create that identity, and that has been lost since Holmy left and Ruskell has been GM. See Parcells in Miami.
