Dave Boling of the TNT hones in on Seahawks head coach Jim Mora stressing of accountability this week, and checks out practice to see if the players are getting on board.

Boling:

At practice Wednesday, Mora was very hands-on, jumping into both huddles to demand plays be re-run to correct mistakes. As it stands, the Seahawks don’t have the talent to win games while making mistakes.

“What I sense is that they’ve accepted the challenge to refocus, and accept accountability,” Mora said. “That’s what I’m trying to get, every day, that’s what I’m trying to build, is a sense of accountability; personal accountability, peer-to-peer accountability, accountability to this team, accountability to this organization, accountability to the fans. My general sense, after spending what little time I have with them today, is that they’re understanding what I’m looking for.”

If you weren’t counting, that was seven accountabilities. I’m guessing that was probably up at least two accountables from last week’s press conference.

Ryan Divish of the TNT writes that it’s unlikely that offensive tackle Sean Locklear will play, and also provides an update on Lofa Tatupu.

Greg Johns of Seattlepi.com writes about running back Louis Rankin getting his shot with Seattle.

More Johns: Like Franco Harris, Edgerrin James ran out of gas in Seattle.

John Boyle of the Everett Herald says the Seahawks like Rankin’s speed and shifty running ability.

Jerry Brewer of the Seattle Times says the Seahawks demise has been a swift one.

Art Thiel of Seattlepi.com says it’s a little early for the Seahawks to hit the panic button.

Dave Wyman of ESPN 710 Seattle says the difference between a 2-5 team and a 5-2 team is the ball bounces your way.

I talked with KJR’s Ian Furness about this week’s matchup with Detroit in this audio link.

Furness talks with DL Cory Redding about facing his former team the Lions this Sunday in this audio link.

Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com reports that WR Calvin Johnson practiced and running back Kevin Smith did not on Wednesday.

More Kowalski: Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham said his defense lost the game for Detroit in the last two drives of the game against St. Louis last week.

  1. Audible says:

    Eric,

If you weren’t counting, that was seven accountabilities. I’m guessing that was probably up at least two accountables from last week’s press conference.” LOVE THE SARCASM! I’ve been getting a kick out of some of the comments you and Ryan have made lately.

It makes you guys a lot more personable and real when you drop in commentary like that. It’s nice to know that there’s someone paying attention on the other side of this blog and not just a reporter going through the motions.

  2. Norseman says:

Stressing accountability is good, but I think it needs to be an organization-wide mentality, beginning with the top – with paul allen. Here’s a good read on the state of seahawk football, and learning from our division rivals…

  3. hawkfan777 says:

    Norseman,

    That was a horrible article.

The authors general thoughts are fine but he made very inaccurate comments about players. It seems to be written by someone with very little knowledge of football (especially the Seahawks).

  4. Does anyone know how fast Rankin is? He’s the same height as Adrian Peterson (6′ 1″). And, he was listed at 205 lbs two years ago, which is about 15 pounds lighter than AP. How cool would it be to have him light it up this weekend and maybe retire JJ along with Edge!

  5. Whatever Mora. We will win on sunday and he’ll be like yes it worked!! Then we’ll lose the next three and he’ll be like oh we are just inconsistent.

  6. Right – all these comments from Mora are basically just noise at this point – all that matters are the wins on Sunday. I gotta figure we’ll win this one, esp at home, and so, we’ll go from there. One game at a time and all.

A loss to these guys could be the kind of thing that does get a coach fired mid-year . . .

  7. Seahawks2620 says:

    Ocho….
Exactly!!! We are supposed to win this game, but when we win Mora will be expecting praise because his theories are panning out for him BS! Then we will get smashed by the Cards and Vikings….Dumb S@it!

  8. 777 excuse me but I couldn’t find one, not one, mistake in the article. Would you please reference any errors found.
I’ll give you the first minor argument… the team doesn’t need completely blown up. Mismanaged but salvageable. The WCO is still capable of this O. Few off season tweaks and on to the show once again. We’ll be able to unload Branch and maybe, just maybe TR so we can land a legit #1 receiver. Not sure where Housh will fit. 8mill for a WR with his talent is not recommended.

  9. I read the article too…there are several points that are arguable, particularly ones like whether or not like Burleson have met expectations, but that doesn’t mean that the comparison is without merit. The main premise of the article should strike a chord with most of us about now.

  10. Did anyone find this statement a little puzzling?

“My general sense, after spending what little time I have with them today, is that they’re understanding what I’m looking for.”

“After spending what little time he has with them today?” Perhaps the coasch should spend more time coaching his team? Shouldn’t he be spending as much time with the team as necessary to make sure that they clearly understand his expectations? What more pressing things does he have to worry about than whether or not his players are doing their best? Hmmm.

  11. microbeer says:

Accountability. How about accounting for the late punts on 4th down trailing 21 points. Mora gave up for F$#@s sake. I would rather lose by 28 or 35 while going on 4th down. What is he doing, mitigating a loss. Is he thinking about point differential for a playoff birth? Mora appears to have lost this team. I am so sick of Housh whining and Branch asking for a trade after all the money spent I could puke. Jebus, we are 2-5. If we lose at home this week heads should start rolling. BLOW IT UP!

  12. Orgy_of_Baal says:

Mora’s speil is abrtract and meaningless. What does “accountability” mean? Woah! That’s really busting heads, there, coach! Mora comes off like a proffessional motivational speaker who got in WAY over his head. The players gave up on him a couple games back. Is Gruden available? We need someone to go in there and REAM some of these slackers. A few of them, like Hasselbeck, are self-motivated. And then there’s guys like Housch. Coach Holms wasn’t perfect, but he knew how do what had to be done when it came to be REAM TIME. Now we got a motivational speaker in the locker room………

  13. Yes Audible, that comment jumped out at me too. “..what little time he has with them…”? It seems to me that unless he’s got his mother’s funeral or something, being out there with them as much as possible should be what takes priority over anything else. What I find just as worrying is that he sees fit to say that in the first place, without at least attempting to qualify it somehow (that we’ve been privy to). Even with good, explainable reasons for not spending much time with the players at the moment, I can’t see a coach like Holmgren just sort of ‘blurting” that out – I’d like to think he’d realize how silly it made him appear. The seeming absence of that awareness is just worrying.

  14. longco44 says:

microbeer….. your full of yourself… go drink yourself…. things will be better…

  15. Cornutt says:

    Microbeer-

    Indeed man, I agree.

  16. krieg17 says:

Hass doesn’t even seem the same. I think there is a serious issue between team and coach. Do you think Hass calls Mikey and says what the #$@% do I do now?

  17. About this same time last year I remember many people saying some of the same things about Holmy. It was like the game had passed him by, he didn’t have enough emotion, and people were tired of hearing about fixing this problem or that problem and then not seeing the results on Sunday. Sometimes when things aren’t going well you have to simply try to say the right things (and still get ridiculed for it). Or try to make it believeable.

  18. Cornutt says:

That might be true Bobby, but for some reason it actually bothers me more with Mora…not sure why though.

Maybe it’s because Holmy seemed at least troubled by the losses whereas Mora is just alway perky and optimistic.
