During his weekly radio show appearance On KJR-AM’s Dave “Softy” Mahler’s show with fellow receiver Nate Burleson, wide receiver Deion Branch was asked about what he said after he scored on a 23-yard touchdown pass in the first half of he Dallas game on Sunday.

During the Fox telecast, a TV camera picked up Branch saying the following: “Y’all come find me. Anybody want me, come find me.”

You can watch the play here, but the Branch’s comments are not audible.

Those words seemed to allude to the fact that Branch is not happy with his role as the team’s third receiver and would like to be traded. Branch had been the subject of trade rumors this season because of his hefty salary of $5 million this season, and his limited role as the team’s third receiver.

Branch addressed those comments this afternoon, saying he remains happy in Seattle and wants to retire as a Seahawk.

“I want to play. I want to win,” Branch said. “Bottom line. That’s that. I came here for a reason. I want to play football.”

Branch has two years left on a six-year, $39 million deal he signed with the team in 2006. He’s scheduled to earn $5.47 million in 2010 and $5.95 million in 2011.

Branch went on to say that even though he’s been on the sideline and not playing as much as he would like, he hasn’t complained and has accepted his role.

He also said he met with Seahawks management this season when with the trade rumors swirling, and that he has a good relationship with management.

“They want me here,” he said. “I want to be here. I want to retire here. I want to finish the end of my career here.”

You can listen the conversation with Branch and Nate Burleson in this audio link.

Why the hell would he want to leave? No other team in the NFL would pay him that kind of money. Might as well stay and be one of if not the highest payed #3 receiver.

  2. Dukeshire says:

I’ve become so jaded regarding professional athletes. When I read; “I want to be here. I want to retire here. I want to finish the end of my career here.” or “I want to play. I want to win,”, I can’t help think there is a “but” at the end of it. I think of all the players before him that wanted the hell out of whatever situation they were in, that have said the same thing. I really like Branch, too. That play in Kansas City, where, after the interception, he stripped the defender as they were falling out of bounds. Pure hustle. But 3 years removed and multiple injuries later on a team barely keeping it’s head above water is not the time to start bumping your gums.

I rem that play – very awesome. made me an instant fan..
Now I see Branch made his annual TD catch..yeah!

  4. nighthawk2 says:

Why the hell does this bozo have a weekly radio segment on KJR? Deion Branch? Hasselbeck, yeah. Mebane or Burleson or Tapp, yeah. But Branch? This guy’s done nothing to warrant that.

That comment he made to the TV camera can be translated “I want out to play somewhere else. And I want to keep the same contract”. What I want is for this guy to live up to the contract. He wants to play? Don’t get injured every year. Want to retire here? Start playing better in practice to warrant getting on the field, then make some plays. Otherwise, just sit down and shut up Deion.

  5. Dukeshire says:

Apparently I’m not the only one who feels Curry hasn’t given 100% when the team isn’t playing well.

  6. Branch doesn’t want to be here. And we don’t want Branch around. He’ll leave in the off season and everyone will be happy. For now, you’ve gotta play the PC game. That’s all it is.

  7. I see Michael Oher is #2 on that rookie list. But picking him at #4 was too much of a reach (according to the experts). I wish some of these experts would get fired for being morons… just like GMs. And if you bring in a new guy, fire him after a year if he proves to be a moron evaluator of talent like the guy before.

  8. nighthawk2 says:

Well Cleveland wasn’t shy about firing their GM 7 games into the season.

  9. Dukeshire says:

Cleveland is the disaster I was sure Denver was to start the season. Now the players have demanded a meeting with the owner. I guess that’s better than players filing grievances with the Players Union against the head coach. Or maybe not.

  10. what a disaster. Branch you are a joke.

  11. Branch and Burleson have a weekly timesllot with softy… Not just Branch.

Funny story I called in to ask a question: “Deion regarding your statement made on Sunday do you feel that you are not embraced or wanted by the seahawk organization or fan base.”

During the portion where they answer callers questions. I saw burleson pointing out something to Deion, give him a look like, what do you think? And Deion gave the cutting motion to his throat and shook his head no, and they both started laughing. Further into the the segment Burleson pointed at it again and shook his head yes and both started laughing again…. They did not take my call. But I’m pretty sure they were looking at the question.
