The Seattle Seahawks failed to compete again on the road this season, losing to Dallas at the sparkling, new Cowboys Stadium 38-17.

The Seahawks are now 2-9 in their last 11 road games, dating back to last season.

The Seahawks have now lost five of their last six games, including three games on the road by an average score of 17 points a contest.

Seahawks head coach Jim Mora has talked about his team continuing to compete through all the adversity they’ve faced this season, but so far that has not been the case on the field.

Check out the unhappy totals here, and I’ll have more from the locker room after the game.

See more photos here.

  1. It’s probably too much to hope that Ruskell, Knapp, and Mora will be replaced next year.

  2. Ocho, there is always hope…

  3. Turnovers hurt, some key penalties hurt – but it’s impossible to get away from the fact that we just aren’t good enough. Their offense just consistently beat our defense. They were a better team, and they’re just a good, not great, team in this league. Which just shows far we’ve fallen. Sucks.

  4. Seahawks2620 says:

I don’t think that it is to far fetched to believe that all of those guys will be replaced

  5. nighthawk2 says:

Ruskell’s contract is up at the end of this season. Ruskell is Mora’s patron, he’s the only reason Mora is even here, let alone head coach. Knapp is only here because he’s Mora’s buddy. So yeah, I think once Ruskell is told to hit the road, all his Atlanta cronies get their pink slips too.

  6. Nighthawk,

That does make sense. I hope you’re right.

  7. mkelly534 says:

I believe Mora stays and Ruskell goes. Somebody has to pay for two years of futility. Ruskell is good at picking Defenders but has never built an offensive unit. I hope Paul Allen reads these blogs and sees that sooner or later it will affect his bottom line.

  8. As I’ve posted before, I hope we clean house & Holmgren comes back in a major capacity. Yes, he wasn’t perfect as gm, but he is a hall of fame coach & along with Chuck Knox 1 of the only 2 great coaches we’ve ever had.

  9. variable575 says:

    Hey stevos,

care to re-post that pathetic entry you had quoting myself, hellomouthbreathers and someone else whom i can’t remember but i’m sure you do?

A toast to the firing of TR and company!!!!!!

  10. SeahawkFan12 says:

It will be great to see Ruskell go. If Holmgren comes in as the GM, this organization will return to glory. The ineptitude comes from the leadership.

I watched this game (as always) with a keen eye on the demeanor of the players, and I saw fire, but I also saw frustration. There is no quitting, but you can tell these guys are frustrated beyond compare.

Say what you want about Housh, but I LOVE the man’s intensity and competitive nature. Hasselbeck is a true leader, and it is obvious he is trying to hold this team together.

Rebuilding the offensive line has to be Priority #1 (that and canning Ruskell). Everything will begin to take care of itself if Hass has time to throw and the backs can run for more than 1-3 yards.

Still love the Seahawks, always have and always will. Never give up….

  11. I just want to give a shout out to all of the real “fans” who were puffing their chests about their undying loyalties to the Hawks after we beat a crappy Jaguars team. Do you still feel that great about this pathetic band of wussies we have to claim as our hawks?

This team sucks and I am sick of the excuses. We need get get better, tougher, stronger, faster etc. I think it’s time to unload about the whole O-line, pull the plug on Matt and all of the RB and start anew. Let’s dump salary, veterans, has-beens, injury prones and rebuild through the draft and young cheap talent. BLOW IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Oh by the way, for all of you begging for Holmgren to come back I can point out just as many terrible decisions he made as a GM as he did good, if not more. Get Real!!!

  13. bulldog80 says:

I don’t want to hear that “other team is better bs”. This game officially turned me on our teams coaching. We suck in all three phases. Many of you have been defending this defense when in fact they have been underperforming all year. On second and third and longs are when you’re supposed to blitz!! HELLO GUS!! It wouldn’t really matter because Gus likes to announce his blitzes right up the middle and let em get caught in the OL wash anyway. Agressiveness and intestinal fortitude; look em up Gus.

And Jr. why in the he!! wouldn’t you just go for the fourth and 1 late in the third quarter. Of course not. Let’s just punt and then give up another TD on the punt runback. Man give the team a chance to win for crying out loud. Dude, you 2 and 4 and down by 18 points at that time. WTF?

This is freaking Cleveland Browns emabarrasing!!!

  14. oceanic says:

The O line didn’t give Matt time to throw and they didn’t open holes for the RBs. That makes four years in a row the O line has let this team down. Yeah, I know that isn’t the only problem but it is the biggest problem.

Since the 2005 Super Bowl season Seattle is 25-30. If Ruskell won’t fix the line, find someone who will.

  15. Seahawks2620 says:

another typical Mora press conference, talking about how they aren’t going to give up and we can’t blame the injureis BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!!!

  16. Not that we don’t have holes on defense, but this upcoming off-season needs to be about the offense (free agency AND the draft). It’s been ignored for too long (unless Suh is available and staring us in the face when we make our pick). And if you want to argue that it hasn’t been “ignored” by Spencer, Branch, Unger… for each of those guys picked, traded for, or free agent signings… I can name twice that number of high picks or free agent signings/dollars that have gone toward the defense. I don’t think anyone can dispute this, even the people who love to say everything the opposite just for the sake of starting an argument. And talent that was on the offense was allowed to leave for various reasons for the sake of adding resources for the defense.

The offense needs a playmaker at the RB position whether it’s a burner or a shake and bake guy who can make a play. If the coaches want to call a post pattern pass play, that’s fine, but make sure you have a speedy RB who can catch and get downfield. I know the reasons for trying to trick the defense, but seeing a slow, lumbering fullback running downfield for a bomb just doesn’t do a whole lot for me.

As they are, I think our WRs are okay. TJ’s antics aren’t impressive, but at least there’s fire/passion in that man. My problem with him is that he seems to think he’s better than he is. Burleson is so-so. Probably more up than down, but he always seems to have a few plays in him where he’s going to drop a ball or even fumble (at least more so than what you see from other supposedly good WRs). Not that we’ve seen a lot from Butler, but it’s nice to have a guy like him in the background going into next year. WRs normally don’t produce at a high level (there’s always exceptions to the rule) right away and progress in year two. Normally, they make their biggest leap from year two to year three. Not that he’s going to be a Pro Bowler, but I think he’ll be a solid player soon as a #2/#3 WR.

We all know we have a stud TE. And as stated above, receivers normally have their biggest leap to the prime of their careers from year two to year three so we can/should really expect some big things from Carlson next season.

I know it’s like a broken record, but how long are we going to keep subjecting ourselves to the likes of Spencer/Sims/etc. Both are FAs at the end of the year, and while both have shown improvement, and I really am proud of how Sims has handled his adversity from being bad through injury, it’s just time to pull the plug on that experiment. The only scenario in which I would support bringing Sims back is if: A. He stays healthy for every remaining game. B. We add major talent so that Sims is actually the weak link of the line. Then, and only then, do I think it would be perfectly okay to bring him back. Right now, Sims is arguably our best OL (along with Willis). That’s not good. You may ask why we wouldn’t keep our strength… but the unit, as a whole, is so bad that it needs to be blown up. At least Unger is developing and will get good. By the time he’s been in the league as long as Sims/Spencer I am expecting a very good player; not a borderline so-so guy.

I’m all for spending some FA dollars, but if we are in rebuilding mode, we need to sign 26-27 year olds. We don’t need any big FA contracts on guys who are 29-30 years old.

  17. “I don’t want to hear that “other team is better bs”.

You may not want to hear it – but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. Our defense is supposed to be the strength of this team – but there were several key times when they needed a stop on 3rd down – when the game was still in doubt – and every key time, they failed to come through. The pass rush was non-existent today. I look at our D – and other than Curry, I don’t see any playmakers.

I still don’t think Hass is the problem – but we’ve got needs all over the place, O-line, D-line, RB, Safety – Dallas just handled us today at every key moment, and as I said earlier, they’re a good team, but not a top-5 type team, which just means we’ve got a ways to go.

The bummer for me, is that I’m out of excuses – I don’t think injuries were the difference today (McIntosh actually did alrightl I thought) – we’re just not a very good team anymore. I’d be happy to see a new GM – I don’t know about firing a coach after one season, but Mora hasn’t done much to make me want him to stay either.

  18. pdway – You’re 100% right that Matt isn’t the problem. I don’t think he needs to get blown up. He simply needs an above average offensive line protecting him and a running game to boot (as any good QB does).

I love Brandon Mebane. I think he’s our best defender. He’s one of the best unknown players in the league. However, I did expect more from him. I thought he’d be more of a playmaker. Nevertheless, he’s a damn good player. I just thought he’d have more of an impact this season. Nevertheless, he’s a young building block that you hang onto throughout the duration of the prime years of his career.

  19. bulldog80 says:

What I meant by that is that we’ve got plenty of good players, especially on defense. It’s the coaching that I’m having a problem with. Is anybody gonna tell me that Denver has better players than we do on defense? Gus isn’t doing anything differently than Marshall. They’re not even slowing down good teams, let alone stoppin em.

  20. Re Holmgren: I’d be thrilled to see him as gm OR coach. I believe a big piece of his leaving was personality conflicts with Ruskell. Yes, he made significant errors as gm. Unlike Timmy, I believe MH learned from his errors.

  21. Audible says:

Our OL provides little protection and really very little room for our ru
nning backs. As if that’s not bad enough, on defense, our pass rush is pathetic and we’re terrible at pulling down interceptions and forcing fumbles. I really don’t buy blaming our defensive problems on the offense because our lack of defense happens throughout the game and if anything being on the field too much should result in getting more turnovers by the defense.

The good news is that the 69ers lost and the tards are about to lose…so at least if gives us a glimmer of hope if we can pull our heads out of our asses and get on a roll…yeah, i kmow unlikely but it has happened before.

  22. Seahawks2620 says:

    BobbyK

I expected a ton more from Mebane then he has given us. Eleven tackles and 1 sack!!! Are you F@#$ing kidding me! Everyone was so hyped up that he would have 10-15 sacks this season…..my ass! Curry is our best player right now and he is a rookie. This is ridiculous. If we are going to rebuild then there is absolutely no need to hang onto players such as Burleson, Housh, Branch, Sims, Spencer, Grant, J Jones, W Jones, Kerney, Cole, Milloy, Griffith and plenty of others. We spend the what is it, 5th most in the league and we are the 5th worst in the league! This is garbage and I wouldn’t have put up with it as long as Paul Allen has.

  23. Audible – as much as I love to blame our OL (and I certainly do know it’s the biggest problem), you definitely bring valid points to the table with respect to the rest of the team. It’s a very frustrating time.

I wonder if TR thinks that guards are still a dime a dozen?

  24. Seahawks2620 says:

The one thing that I really like about this season though is Lawrence Jackson stepping up quite a bit.

  25. Seahawks2620 says:

Darryl Tapp has been disappointing as hell, but atleast he has stayed healthy

  26. Seahawks2620 says:

One more thing….what happened to “Red Bryant is such a beast”….he has looked awful when has been in.

  27. princeaden says:

pdway, I would agree with about 1/2 of that. I would call Hawthorne a definite playmaker on defense. And I’m sure I’ll get beat up for this one. But, I thought JJ ran pretty good for the most part.

  28. 2620 – Please settle down. Put the gun away. Call a councelor. I can hardly tell what you’re trying to say in that rant (I’m guilty of my fare share of them too:).

The Mebane stats are certainly not what we wanted/expected. However, he is a good player. He consistently gets good push in the running game and is very, very good at stuffing the run. This doesn’t make for flashy stats, but you need the dirty workers too and he’s doing a good job at what he does. Rewatch the games of his play if you don’t believe me. I have noticed this.

As for being a pass rusher, I absolutely agree with you 100%. I really expected double digit sacks from him this year. And, more importantly, I expected constant pressure from him. It’s not happening. Perhaps he needs to be moved back to the more conventional DT role he had excelled in instead of the 3-tech he is this year (and about 15-20 lbs lighter). That doesn’t make sense though b/c the 3-tech is supposedly more of a glory DT position with respect to stats (sack numbers).

Either way, he is playing very good run defense and at least he has a strength. Some of our other guys don’t have a stregth (like most of our OL in run AND pass blocking).

  29. There’s no way Curry is having a better year than Mebane, unless your stats include number of times whiffing and looking like a fool on plays you should make or getting tricked out of your jock.

Curry is going to be fine, more than fine, and has the potential to be our best defender and future Pro Bolwer… but he’s not there yet. He also plays a position where there are naturally better numbers so the “stats” will indicate that, yes, he is having a better year.

  30. Dukeshire says:

Seahawks2620 – Tapp had an awful game but he’s had a great year up to now.

Bobby – The only case I can make for the ‘Hawks taking Suh is that it would move Mebane back to LDT where he has played his best. Then you’re looking at Tapp, Suh, Mebane, Jackson up front.

  31. Stats will also indicate that Casey Hampton is a worthless pile of crap, even though he is the most important player on the Steelers defense. His contract indicates the Steeler management thinks he’s pretty good too.

  32. oceanic says:

    Two sacks for Hawthorne?

Who do the Hawks have to have back next season?

Offense: Hasselbeck, Carlson, Burleson, Housh, Butler, Unger.

Defense: Mebane, Jackson, Tapp, Curry, Tatupu, Hill, Hawthorne, Herring, Trufant, Wilson.

  33. Duke – I’ve seen most of Suh’s games in his career and he’s not normal. The push he gets on almost every single play is insane. He’s in the backfield on run plays, he’s also providing constant pressure in the passing game. And he runs like a 305 lb linebacker. People talk about how great the Nebraska defense is, but it’s not that great. It’s that one player who revolutionizes things to make them elite (although the rest is, on average, above average). For example, they lost at home last week. The defense gave up 9 points. The offense had 8 turnovers. How the heck good does a defense have to be to only give up 3 FGs when their offense turns it over 8 times? We don’t have that one player who can get this type of constant pressure and it really would change our defense having this guy that we all have craved for years and years. He’s a freak. I expect he’ll be in the Pro Bowl by the 3rd year of his career. I’d love to add him.

  34. We let Weaver go, sign Housh, draft Butler, but we throw to Grifith how many times, was Burlson the only guy Hass can see also. If I was Housh and Carlson, I would be pissed. Whats Burlson going over the middle for anyways, not to mention how many times the ball bounced off his face? I can’t understand the plays being called any more. Throwing to our blocking FB, and Burleson a hundred times dosen’t make since to me. I did like seeing Seneca out there even though it didn’t work.

  35. rubioloco says:

I think we should put Mora of Injureied Reserve as his performance indicates a potential concussion. Maybe then we can bring a coach up that could help fill in until his head is working.

Thankfully the Huskies didn’t ket Mora live out his dream….

Maybe we can at least lose enough to merit a high draft pick so we can get rid of Hasselbeck who reminds me of the second coming of David Krieg….. I know he is trying but trying and winning are two different things all together.

Sad to turn on the game after saying…’wonder how bad they are losing’…just to see you need to wait once again for next year.

No need to bash my post as this is the last Seahawks story I will be reading untl after next years draft.

  36. BobbyAyala says:

“Everyone was so hyped up that he would have 10-15 sacks this season…..my ass!”

For a DT? Whoever expected that is a moron.

Mebane is probably the best defender on the team.

  37. Hopefully next year it is the Mike and Chucky show rather than the Tim and Jim show.

  38. BobbyAyala says:

    that would be great.

  39. I agree with the sentiment of many rants a.) Red Bryant Who? b.) Mebrane-3 technique=dominance—hasn’t happened.

I think Trufant got shafted on some of those PI calls, especially the incidental contact where the WR initiated it.

Burleson likes to do his best impression of the Darrell Jackson/Koren Robinson days of dropping 2+ catchable balls a game.

Oh and buy the way-Has anyone heard me say our special teams suck? If not I’ll say it again.

One of the biggest problems of this team is there are no true-franchise cornerstones-just a lot of has beens, good-tryers and high moter/character types that are expendable.

#6 right now in the draft.

  40. “Who do the Hawks have to have back next season?

Offense: Hasselbeck, Carlson, Burleson, Housh, Butler, Unger.

Defense: Mebane, Jackson, Tapp, Curry, Tatupu, Hill, Hawthorne, Herring, Trufant, Wilson.”

I basically agree – esp with your offense picks. The kicker and punter can stay too . . .

  41. nightwulf says:

This is probably my last post for a while, because, damnit! Nothing’s going to change! “We’ve got most of our O line starters back” woo hoo…3 decent backups and a rook…who haven’t had the time to learn to gel with each other, and won’t begin to do so for another four or five games…this means that, for all practical intents and purposes, we have NO offense…Which means, for the defense, that they’ve got to hold opposing teams to 10 or fewer pts a game to have a realistic chance of winning…and that’s just f’n DEMORALIZING to a D. To know that you’re going to be out there on the field for 35-40 min a game, and be damn near perfect the whole time…christ, it’s a wonder they don’t just open their wrists…Gus Bradley is just learning his chops as a DC, and that’s a BAD place to be when the D is the only functioning part of the team.. We’ve got nine more “scrimmages” before the end of the season, and we “should” beat Detroit, TB, St Louie and Tenn. and that’s all she wrote, folks…it’s not a case of the glass being half empty or half full, there isnt even a friggin’ glass to be had…we CAN’T fix the O line until the offseason, and even when we get the personnel, it’s still going to take ‘em eight or so games to start to gel…so next season doesn’t look all that good either…but if we get the people we need for the line, 2011 could be our turnaround year…that’s how bloody ugly this mess is…and not a damn thing is going to change until free agency…..but hey, if even the Lambs can beat the Lyin’s, there’s hope for at least next week…
