Afternoon links: A weekend without the Hawks

It’s kind of weird not having the Hawks this weekend. I’ll be headed up to the UW-Oregon game. But my Sunday hangover won’t be the same without the live Seahawks game chat. Perhaps like the Seahawks, I need to heal up, I don’t want to be placed on the PUP list with a damaged liver.

Let’s get to a few links (I’m working on two other blog posts – one Hawks, one Ms).

Not much going on in Hawks news.

Gregg Bell of the AP has this story on Damion McIntosh. As some of you noted, he is not a small man. And he admitted that he isn’t quite in football shape. You think?

Clare Farnsworth also has this story on McIntosh including a pic of the svelte tackle.

The TNT’s venerable columnist Dave Boling made his weekly appearance on the Seahawks roundtable on the Mitch in the Morning show.

I was also on with Ian Furness talking a little Hawks amongst other things

Going off some of the comments made on that show, ESPN’s Mike Sando offers his thoughts.

ESPN’s columnist Jemele Hill has this column on the arrest of Terreal Bierra.

It sounds as though Jim Zorn will make it through this season.

Here’s a few links from around the NFC West

The Arizona Cardinals are talking about their lack of injuries. Really? You want to talk about that? Doesn’t seem smart to me. One of those guys that is injured, Anquan Boldin, may play this weekend.

Columnist Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch discusses the St. Louis Rams‘ draft possibilities and lists Washington’s Jake Locker as the most likely pick.

Are you getting tired of hearing about Michael Crabtree? First it was about him signing, now it’s about him playing. Here’s a name for you to remember Crabtree — JJ Stokes.

Yahoo’s Jason Cole has this story on Crabtree. Niners QB Alex Smith has called Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford to discuss the injured throwing shoulder and surgeries. Personally, I wouldn’t let Alex Smith infect any young QB.

But Ryan, do you have any opinion on anything :)

    BTW–good job on the blog..

  2. Yeah, my friends get tired of me spouting my opinions. It’s why I want to be a columnist

  3. Since when do you have friends:)

If McIntosh is out of shape and doesn’t know the offense and we may NEED him right away… did he get the week off too??? Or was there a person around (coach or trainer) trying to get him up to snuff on everything. I suppose it’d suck to be him (not making big bucks part) to all of a sudden have to move and start a new job. At the same time, I’d say he could use this time to get a crash course in the offense and to run some serious wind sprints to get in game shape… since he’ll probably be needed for 4 quarters in Dallas next week.

  4. Dukeshire says:

Ryan – A couple years ago a co-worker and friend told me I should write a book and entitle it “Duke’s Factual Opinions”. Sounds like you could have a chapter or two in there. lol. And by the way, is the TNT flying you to the Dallas game? Sweet fancy Moses. I need to take 3 Advil just thinking about it.

  5. princeaden says:

I was just thinking about Jake Locker playing for the Rams( insert vomiting sound here). With just the possibility of that happening( and the fact that he got that 300k from the Angels to hold him over ’til the big $ kick in) should be enough to insure Husky fans a senior year for him. You know he must be looking at Bradford and thinking ” I don’t want that to be me”. But at the same time a senior season with the Huskies could be quite special for both him and the team. My guess is that Jake is a very principled young man and he very much WANTS to be there to have the full experience of Washington Football becoming that proud and dominant Pac 10 team again. At least that’s what I’m hoping for. Maybe I’ve been sipping the Kool-aid a bit too much as well.

  6. princeaden says:

Oh by the way Duke, I would be interested in reading that book.

  7. After seeing what has happened to Bradford, and even though I’m an advocate for education, I don’t see where it makes any financial sense to stay in school if you’re a guaranteed top 5 pick. Some have done it, but the financial ramifications could be terrible if something happened.

If we get Holmy back next year, I wonder if he’ll bring back Weaver to play FB for him? He’s not exactly the type of FB who is setting the world on fire, like perhaps he thought he would, so he may come back at a reasonable rate. I’ve been thinking about FA and the draft all day (along with our OL). There’s no game, there has to be something to think about.

  8. Someone posed a question on this blog the other day about our offense and how many players we actually have on that side of the ball who would rank in the top half of the NFL at their positions. Sadly, we only have a few. That’s pretty pathetic, really. It made me realize that kool aid has definitely clouded many of our views for those of us who expected a top 10 offense this season. That being said, here is my #1 free agent wish list signing. He’s one of the best RGs in the NFL and he deserves to be compinsated as such. He’s young (’bout the same age as Hutch when he left, and old Stevo is still his prime) and can help anchor our OL, along with Center Max Unger, for the next 8 years. I have no problem making a guy like this one of the highest paid OL in the NFL (including LTs). We would still need help via the draft, but this would at least give us a strength on the OL (C/RG) and allow us the opportunity to run the ball over RG on 3rd and 1 and usually make it. With Willis at RT (if he played there over Lock) we’d have one of the top few run blocking right sides in the NFL… added to the right side is Carlson and he’s definitely an above average blocker. Nothing good is going to happen if we don’t fix the OL problem (as has been stated many times) and this is the perfect place to start. Add a stud LT in the draft and we’re on our way to running the ball and giving our QB time to throw it.
    http://www.neworleanssaints.com/Team/Roster/People/Jahri%20Evans.aspx

Green Bay also has a LG who isn’t in the class of Evans, but he’s good (100 times better than anything we have at guard).
    http://www.packers.com/team/players/colledge_daryn/

  9. BobbyAyala says:

In most cases, I’d think Locker would bolt. But there’s a precedent for QB’s staying lately (Leinart, Tebow) for the experience. Jake could have gone anywhere in the nation, instead he chose Washington. There’s loyalty there, but with the CBA, he’s probably gone. If the Rams take him, that will be bad news, because he’ll be doomed as a professional.

Isn’t it funny how Linehan completely destroyed that team? Just like he did to the Huskies as an OC.

  10. princeaden says:

BobbyK, I have a confession to make. I too have been daydreaming all day about F/A and the draft as well. In between raking leaves and doing loads if laundry, I’ll check in on this blog to see if anyone has offered an interesting opinion or possible draft or trade idea to keep my brain stimulated. My wife thinks I need a support group. I probably do. But, you’re right. With no game this weekend, I’ve got to have something to think about.
I clicked on that link about the N/O guard, and that gut would be perfect to go along with a early 1st round rookie LT and Unger to secure 3/5 of the line for the next 10 years or so. I also wonder why it is that WE can’t come up with a 4th rounder to blossom like that once in a while( again it makes me wonder just how good the F/O is at evaluating talent). Throw in a hungry, young, later first round Stud RB and a 2nd round, talented and scary safety and all of the sudden we’ve got what looks to be most, if not all of the missing pieces to our puzzle. In the later rounds we pick players that can hopefully bolster the depth in those positions. Kool-aid anyone?

  11. princeaden says:

Oh yeah, BobbyAyala. What’s the CBA?

  12. princeaden says:

If and when Lock does come back and assuming either Walt (unlikely IMO) or someone via the draft is at LT, does he supplant Willis at RT or move to guard or viceversa? It sure would be a nice luxury to have to worry about having too much talent up front for once. Given the current situation, it does seem a bit farfetched. But if we aquire 2 quality lineman via draft or F/A or a combo of both and everyone is healthy, that is exactly what we’ll be looking at next fall. Oops, there I go again!!

  13. princeaden – I’m looking at the ’08 utbue video on Cal RB Jahvid Best at the moment. In my feeble mind, I am really hoping/praying we can sign two young guards in FA and they can grow old with Unger to form a nucleus in the middle of our line for at least 5 years. Then we can look at the draft and get our LT and then since we will actually have a good line again (remember, Unger will get much better in year 2… and at C he can/will play the position he likes best and feels most comfortable at). Once Matt has a line to protect him, there’s no better way to go than to get a home run hitter from the RB position to make some plays. I don’t know much about this Best kid yet, but he seems so much faster than all other players on the field. Our offensive problems would be solved! Gonna go check out the Clemson RB highlights now.

cba – collective bargaining agreement b/w the NFL and NFLPA.

  14. nightwulf says:

    Bobbyk,
How many times do I have to tell you to QUIT READING MY MIND! Ya, we ought to throw a boatload of money at this kid, and the way the line has been performing this year, bith Sims and Spencer ought to be able to be had for cheap. Spencer can be a good back up C, and Sims will be a good back up/ok starter at LG. Throw the best available 1st rd LT from the draft, that moves Lock back over to RT, with Willis as a backup, and we’ve pretty near got ourselves a line. If we can pick up an improvement over Sims either in FA, or the draft, we WILL have ourselves a line.
    princeaden,
the “talented and scary safties” in this draft (Berry and Mays) will be gone, most likely by pick 20. We ought to have a shot at Mays, (unless Denver keeps floating on their pink cloud and we manage to get it together and amass a 8-2 record the rest of the year) (the nightmare scenario, in terms of the Hawks future, is that we wind up loosing to Den in the SB) Otherwise, we should get a shot at Berry, and most likely will get a shot at Mays. If Berry is available for our first pick, I think we have to go for him. If not, then we go for the best available LT, and hope for a shot at Mays. (unless we happen to pick our first right around where Mays should fall, and Berry is gone, then we take Mays, and get the best LT we can find with our second 1st rounder.) If we don’t get Mays OR Berry, then we need to go after the two best possible O linemen. If we get a S and a LT in the 1st, then I still think our second rounder should also be an O lineman (yes, we’re THAT short of talent on the line) If our first two picks are O linemen, THEN we can look at the best available S or RB for our second. Damn shame we don’t have a third…:(

  15. BobbyAyala says:

CBA runs out after next season, owners want to reign in rookie contracts. If that happens then Locker could potentially make far less coming out next year as opposed to this year, regardless of how high he gets picked.

  16. princeaden says:

BobbyK, what did you punch into utube to find Best?

  17. princeaden says:

What would it take to get Johnathon Stewart out of Carolina and in Seahawk uniform where he should have been all along?

  18. BobbyAyala says:

    Mr. K,

Did you see Best against Oregon?

I don’t know. We have one Cal RB already, and I actually think Forsett could be a starter one day.

I don’t know if we need another running back, I really don’t. RB’s are a dime a dozen, and the successful ones all have one thing in common – blockers. I’d rather spend this year’s picks on OL, a future QB and safety help.

Hook up Taylor Mays with our pick, spend the Denver and 2nd round picks on linemen.

Either way, just fire Ruskell already, please, for the love of God.

  19. princeaden says:

So we have Denver’s 1st rounder and our 1st and 2nd round picks, but no 3rd rounder. Is that right?

  20. snydro22 says:

    Circle gets a square!

  21. Dukeshire says:

A lot of talk here about the 2010 draft. That’s, in part, what is so fun about watching college football, seeing future Seahawks play and dreaming. Not much else to do on the bye week.

    http://www.draftcountdown.com/index.html

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings

  22. In all honesty, I have not watched one Cal game the last few years so I basically know nothing of Best except for highlight videos (and they usually only show the good plays). All I know is that AFTER we fix the line, it would be nice to have a dynamic home run hitter at RB. Personally, I love the way Forsett is playing but the way the NFL has gone to a rotation at RB… I’d really like to get a stud to go along with Forsett who can go the distance on any given play.

Remember, a good/great offense is going to also make the defense a lot better too (can play with leads, won’t be on the field as much, etc.). And with the way most of the Ruskell focus has been on defense, I don’t think it’s unfair to go into an off-season by giving the offense some love.

From everything I have been reading, I seriously doubt Berry will be there when we pick. As much as I want OL early and often in the draft… I do think if Suh or Berry are there that we can’t pass on them. The’re too good. But in all other cases, OL, OL, OL, OL… I’d love to sign both of those FA guards that I posted previously. I often wonder why teams allow good/great guards to his FA, but you never hardly ever see a good/great LT make it to FA? Maybe the other idiots haven’t learned that losing a Hutch can really suck for your OL.

I know I’m going to get criticized for this, but one player I do not want is Taylor Mays. I’m gonna be so mad if we take him. I think he’s overrated and don’t think he’s going to have a great impact in the NFL. For someone with all of his supposed skills, they don’t seem to translate onto the football field like they should. I don’t want a workout warrior, I want a good football player.

princeaden – just go to utube and search his name and all kinds of highlights will come up.

  23. Dukeshire says:

That is one thing that always stood out to me about the ’05 team . They averaged a 13 point lead going into half time for the season and they led the league in drives of 80 yards or more. Which of course wears out opposing Ds and forces them to come out on offense and play one dimentialy. That combination is gold for defenses. And it all begins up front, on the o-line.

I’ve seen Best play several times and he is good. But he is up and down, for sure. Oregon and USC really shut him down. And I have nothing other than a feeling to base this on, but he strikes me like his ability to impress on the stat sheet looking back and in workouts skews his play on the field, making people think he is better than what the actually does during the game. He is explosive though, I’ll give him that.

  24. For the second straight year, we are talking about the draft at length and we are not even half way through the season. The only times I can think of doing that were 1992-1993 and 1980-1981.

I’ll gladly take mediocrity back at this point. At least we can pretend the team has a chance.

  25. Dukeshire says:

For me, because I’m thinking ahead to the draft doesn’t mean that I’ve thrown in the towel this year. I’m aware how bleak it is, but I’ll still be at the games cheering my ass off.

  26. Duke – what do you think about a coup and taking over Seahawk Headquarters? We’ll go OL early and often in FA and the draft. We’ll only sign guys like Evans who has never missed a game in 4 years, instead of hoping that bad injury prone guys miraculously stay healthy on a unit that is the most important for staying healthy and playing together.

Note (the fine print): In no way, shape, or will this become a reality (a coup at Seahawk Headquarters — I don’t need the FBI showing up at my house for making terroristic threats). And for the people who don’t know how to take a joke — well, this is a joke. HaHa.

Eric/Ryan — Do you know where some of us can apply for the GM job?

    :)

  27. There’s people who love putting words in your mouth on this blog so I’d better clarify that Walt isn’t “bad and injury prone.” But he had significant risks coming into the year.

I haven’t thrown the towell in either, but it’s the BYE week (and, yes, it does look bleak)… there’s got to be something to do since we can’t get ready for a game this weekend.

  28. bird_spit says:

That ’05 team could nearly guarantee 5+ yd on the sweep to the left side. Hutch and Walter were absolutely golden. SA also had a knack once he cleared the first 3 yds. Also when SA could smell the touchdown, he could actually hit the hole created by that left side.

We may have witnessed the best that could ever be on the OL for the seahawks. I want to see the seahawks focus on bringing that back.

Then the hutch stunt – Ruskell should have been run out of town, but because of the Lofa/Hill tandem we all thought he had a golden hand as well.

IMHO – we are too late for a return to the SB with Hass, unless he really stays focused on conditioning. He needs to be the Jerry Rice of conditioning going forward.

I’d like to be all positive about the Seahawks. I’ve been a fan since ’89, and that last game was the first game I ever walked away from in the 3rd quarter.

  29. nightwulf says:

    BobbyK,
I thought I told you to quit reading my mind. Don’t make me pull this car over, young man!
BTW, anybody have any info on how early safties get taken in the draft? I seriously doubt that Berry will be a top 5 pick, but is he liable to fall 6-10, or 11-15? If he falls 11-15, we most likely have a shot at him, unless the wheels fall off this rickety ride completely, and we can’t even beat the Lions, Lambs ane/ro the Flaming Thumbtacks

  30. nightwulf says:

Just googled Ed Reed and Troy polomolommoolwhatever…Reed was taken with the 24th overall pick, and Troy was pick # 16…based on that, we’ve got a good chance…

  31. Dukeshire says:

Yes and no. Yes, that there are great players to be had outside the top 5. But no, in that the larger the impact players have at a given position, like Reed and Polamalu, the more likely teams will take that position earlier. For what it’s worth, I’ve seen Berry and Mays in mocks taken no worse than 11 (each) and Berry as high as the 3rd overall. But there is a LONG way to go. They each have to finish their own seasons in good form, perform well at the senior bowl and do well at the combine.

  32. I have seen that Berry (who is a junior) is the best Safety prospect since Sean Taylor and Taylor was taken with the 5th overall pick. I’ve seen parts of some TN games and he seems so smooth.
Just to give you an idea of what I expect from Mays as a Pro; if he is there with our 2nd round pick and we take him, I’ll be mad.

  33. Dukeshire says:

Best is having a great day against Washington St. Of course, it’s Washington St., they are terrible. But he’s going to have 200+ yards and he busted another long one.

Bobby – What happened to your ‘Huskers? Hate to tell you this but I took Iowa St to cover the 21 but I never thought they’d actually win.

  34. I don’t know WTF happened to them! I really thought they were gonna turn the corner in year 2 of the new regime after the dark ages of mega-moron-Callahan. Suh is probably mad right about now that he didn’t turn pro.

  35. Anyone have a link for the weekly pick em… I deleted the user history and can’t remember where I went…

  36. Nevermind. Found it.

  37. BobbyAyala says:

Well, I watch USC every week, and I love Mays.

But I wouldn’t disagree that we could spend that pick on more pressing concerns.

  38. BobbyAyala says:

As a matter of fact, I’d love to see Ruskell actually spend a draft improving the offense. He really hasn’t done anything to help that side of the ball since he’s been here.

  39. BobbyAyala says:

Here’s Ruskell’s draft history on the offensive side of the ball.

    In a word, “impressive.”

    Doug Nienhuis
    Tony Jackson
    Ray Willis
    David Greene
    Chris Spencer
    Ben Obomanu
    David Kirtman
    Rob Sims
    Steve Vallos
    Jordan Kent
    Courtney Taylor
    Mansfield Wrotto
    Justin Forsett
    Owen Schmitt
    John Carlson
    Cameron Morrah
    Mike Teel
    Deon Butler
    Max Unger

For the record, Ruskell spent three drafts picks on specialists, a punter (Plackemeier), a kicker (Coutu) and a long snapper (Schmitt), all of which are no longer on the team.

He’s drafted seven offensive linemen, but only two prior to the fourth round.

He selected David Greene with 85th overall pick.

Of his 37 picks, 23 are still on the active roster, of those, 10 started against Arizona last weekend.

    37 23

  40. BobbyAyala says:

Perennial NFL powers have one thing in common: Great drafts, year after year.

Looking at Ruskell’s draft history, it becomes rather obvious why this team has been on a steady decline since 2005.

The proof is all up in that pudding, as the kids might say.

  41. Some of the most damning evidence on why this team has sunk to franchise low depths has just been presented by Bobby A.

I’m still holding out hope this defense can move up to “elite” status, but it’s been a long time since Seahawks fans have had that. The Seahawks have been ranked in the top 10 in yards allowed in 1997, 1990-1992 and 1984 – that’s it for the entire franchise. The 1997 squad was ranked number 3 in offense, but couldn’t get the special teams in order.

  42. I’m certainly not trying to defend Ruskell, but I don’t think you can blame him for guys like Tony Jackson, Cameron Morrah,

  43. oops…

etc, sucking… they are/were late round clowns. I could probably analyze the Patriots, Steelers, and Colts and find that they have had 6th-7th rounders who sucked the last 5 years.

It seems so obvious how you win in the league…
    1. You need superstars who are the best at their position.
    2. You can’t have a team of stars, so most of your non-stars must be good/great role players.

In 5 years as GM… who has Ruskell brought in who is one of the best at their position???

IMO – Ruskell has done a good job at most things, but he’s not brought the Seahawks any GREAT players.

In ’05, IMO — these are the players that carried us…
Matt, Walt, Hutch, Tubbs ($haun was a product of the OL… but he was good, I’m not denying that… if that Shaun of ’05 would run behind the line we have today, he would suck… that’s my point — although you can make an argument I can’t count Matt a star of today for that reason).

Stars today IMO — Matt (except he’s not allowed to be a star since the OL is so terrible)… and perhaps Mebane (but not quite). Maybe Curry will (probably) get there. Carlson most likely gets to elite status sometime pretty soon but it hasn’t happened yet (thanks to our OL being so terrible and him having to stay in to block too often).

As has been stated over and over… we aren’t going to be successful if our OL doesn’t improve…

  44. If I get named GM… this is what we do…

Offer Curry in a deal to Cleveland to get Joe Thomas. We will have to throw in some stuff too (I assume). Perhaps they want Lock and Wrotto (I’d most likely release Lock anyways – not b/c I think he sucks… think injuries & salary cap – it will cost money too, but good things do cost money). I’ll still negotiate and offer them other perks, but won’t say it up front (never offer your best deal first… actually, I’ll only offer Curry for Thomas and go from there). The current regime in Cle. didn’t draft Thomas, so they may be a bit more willing to let him go… so they could get the glory in getting Curry and his playmaking ways… we all know he’s got freakish talent and is going to be great… he’s just not there YET… but good things cost… and you don’t get a franchise LT like Thomas (or Long…) if you don’t offer a lot.

I would throw ALOT of money at a LG (Colledge) and I would make a RG (Evans) the highest paid OL in the NFL (f-the “just a guard” theory).

I would wait for the draft to see who will pair with Forsett at RB (and I think Weaver can be reunited with the franchise at a reasonable salary, since he’s not dominating like he thought he would in Phil).

Then when we are all asked to evaluate our offense and how many players we have who are in the top half of the NFL at their positions… we will be able to say…
QB, FB, LT, LG, C, RG, TE… over half of our offense will be (and one of TJ/Burleson would have to make it too). Willis would play (like anyone) a heck of a lot better with a good player beside him and he may be in this talk too (while Unger is NOT that good THIS year… he will make the cut in ’10 as long as he’s where he should be playing — Center).

And simply by our offense getting that much better, our defense will have no choice (minus Curry) but to get better since they will be in a much better position to succeed.

Hey, FA/trades made the O much better. Come draft time, 2 of those 3 early picks of ours would go to D (minus the RB that we take to pair with Forsett).

And I have thought about the other salary cap $ stuff too (probably too much)… but am too lazy to post it all… trying to see if Florida can hold on against Miss. St. It’s been a good game (LSU/Auburn wasn’t cutting it like this one).

  45. seahawklovertoo says:

Drug test BobbyK first and FIRE him !!!

  46. You don’t want to fire a guy who will build a dominant OL which will play a HUGE role in the team winning SB XLV — unless you’re NOT a seahawklovertoo (and besides alcohol… I’ve NEVER taken any drugs unless prescribed by a Dr.)…
    :)

  47. Seahawks 2010 Schedule

Home (besids division teams and 1 team TBD; both home and away)
    Atl, Car, Den, KC

    Away
    NO, TB, Oak, SD

  48. nightwulf says:

BobblK<<< Has Dr. Feelgood on speed dial (he IS a doctor) :)

  49. BobbyAyala says:

Granted, Bobby, but here’s three instances in which your aforementioned teams made Ruskell look silly:

In 2005, New England selected Logan Mankins six picks after Chris Spencer and Matt Cassell (7th round) 145 picks after David Greene.

In 2006, Indianapolis selected Antoine Bethea in the sixth round (207 overall), 44 picks after Seattle took David Kirtman.

In 2007, Pittsburgh took CB William Gay 170th overall, 115 picks after Josh Wilson. Gay has played in all 38 games since, Wilson has played in 32. Gay is now a full-time starter, Wilson heads back to the nickel next week.

  50. But, NE has made selections like Chad Jackson too (trade up to early in the 2nd and he sucked w/&/wo the knee injury).
Besides, if NE hadn’t traded Branch… they win the SB (anyone else remember the Brady WRs dropping EVERYING L & R in the AFC Championship Game when one sure handed WR would have easily gotten them in the SB… why did they go so hard after Welker/Moss/Stallworth after that)… instead, they trade him and the idiots of the world talk about how they ripped off the Seahawks (wait, as a fan of a franchise who has never won one… winning one would be cool) but after a closer analysis… they drafted an average S (Merriweather) and have one less SB win… Sounds to me like we lost out on that trade (Ben Grubbs) and they lost too (3 SB wins instead of 4).

  51. BobbyAyala says:

Yes, but comparing the Seahawks to the Patriots is like comparing apples to oranges. Their rings give them the luxury of a mistake here and there, but we’re still climbing up that hill and don’t have that luxury.

I liked the Branch trade at the time, and I still do. Branch is an awesome teammate and could be a damn good player if we could ever figure out how to use him correctly.

  52. BobbyK, while you correctly reference the AFC Championship game with respect to the Patriots missing Branch, you forget the huge play Reche Caldwell made the week before to beat the 14-2 Chargers – which was a huge upset. Earlier the same day, Branch and Hasselbeck where disappearing against the Bears in Soldier Field. Even a mediocre day by Seattle’s passing game would have produced the greatest playoff upset in NFC history. Instead Hasselbeck and Branch were outplayed by Grossman and Rasheen Davis.

This game is my personal version of the Hutchinson fiasco.

They so should’ve won that game too. That one hurt.

I am so glad the Hummingbird-Mallards won’t be screwing up TV programs. Do not put the Hummingbirds on Direct TV. Their team is not worthy of
Sunday or Monday night programming. Put them on TV morning shows like the 700 Club or the Price is Right. Horrible team to watch. The horses are smarter than the robbers. Thank you for the horses, Lord. These idiots would have not gotten away if not for the horses. Be cold blooded killers. Yall can have a re-union in Hell. Dudes won’t plead guilty as they are guilty.Just use of Tax payers money. Are they Homo-Sexuals yet?`THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN Convicted by Now(Taylor case). Kids can’t compete with Pro Jail Birds. They are now Homo-Sexuals. They can now enjoy their sentence like Tayolr never existed. Family members got Dude killed. Dating this trash. Rental car chic should be charged with murder also. She knew the plan. The family knew of the plan. They should be prosecuted also. Killing kids is an American passion/past-time. Look how many kids died in the last month(killed in the last two months. It has become a sport. Target a kid and get months of TV time. TV time for a dude who robbed a store and got talked out of robbing it. That Spiritual time is important. Do some drugs, possible sex and turn yourself in after killing people.
The American way at it’s finest. Bye dude. Now play your games with the guards.

  55. What gives. Reading my favorite peeps and some jizom turns the channel. Anyhow, that Bears game brings back the painful memory of short yardage run LEFT. Those were the days. Now we can’t seem to find a LT much less an all pro left side with a wrecking ball leading the way at FB. O Schmitt does leave some resemblance to future hope.

Branch,,, from day one was a gargantuan screw up!

  56. Yes, pabuwal, but they still would have had Caldwell the week before and (probably – you never know) along with Branch… they would have beat the Colts and easily would have beated Da Bears in the SB. But, BobbyA, I definitely see your point.

That Chicago game sucked. That game magnified how much we missed Hutch. There was a 4th and 1 or 4th and 2 play around midfield at the end of the game and if we make it… the game is over… we got stuffed b/c our OL sucked and the rest is history. Our OL has sucked ever since ’05 and clueless GM boy hasn’t figured it out.

IMO – it’s easier to win a SB with a poor unit of LBs than it is to have a poor OL. I’ll take a good OL and a bad set of LB over a great set of LBs and a poor OL.

WOW !!!! “Randolley” IS on some really awesome drugs. DUDE, do you know what blog you had posted on ? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
BobbyK , I was pulling Your leg. Yesterday I had worked 14 hours because 7 crooks tried to do a “big score” in the facility I happened to work this last four days. Seven people busted at once will make for a great day for me. So, on my shortened lunch time I ate a sandwich and red Your posts . One sentence is all I could “squeeze”. Relax, I did tell You I respect Your thinking.
BobbyAyala, I like Your posts too. ( When I grow up, I will change my name to BobbyG)
As for BobbyK’ idea to trade Curry….. I’d trade Hill or,Lofa plus others for Thomas but not Curry. I love the suggestion to get TWO high-end OGs from the FA after the season (at any cost).
If I was a GM, this is what I’d do : as soon as we are eliminated from the post-season, I’d trade JJ and (almost everyone else ) others might want. Then, I’d grab Kory Sheets from Frisco PS and play him to see what he has in him. I would bring in QB Rhett Bomar too. I’d PUP Matt and send him on a cruise around the world for little R&R. My starting QB would be Teel and Bomar could see some action.( I would keep Seneca and get creative with him) .
The first thing in the off-season, I would grab those two guards that BobbyK mentioned.
In the draft I’d go (1) LOT, (2)OT, (3) DB…UNLES Berry or Suh are still there. Then I’d take Suh first and go OTs with our second and third pick. BobbyK, I “hate” the Huskers but, Suh is that good—You’re 100% right. I think Okung will be top five pick and out of our reach.
Picks #4,#5,and #6 should all be safeties and corners ( assuming Teel and Bomar show to be capable to start if Matt needs to rest again in 2010)
I had “cooled-off” on Mays too. After USC and the Oregon reigned him in, I
am “done” with RB Best. “Force”, “Edge” and Kory Sheets should be good enough behind our new O Line.

  58. seahawklovertoo says:

Reading again Randolley’ post …. I guess i was still sleepy the first time (or, being a foreigner) is the reason I didn’t get it the first time.

  59. BobbyK – you’re right about those stuffs on 4th and 1, but I put that game on the QB. I’ve rewatched that game a number of times and Hasselbeck couldn’t have played a worse game in the 4th quarter and OT.

He had that huge INT in the 4th and big miss of Bobby Engram at the end of regulation that would have won the game. Engram’s defender fell down and he was running free around the 35 yard line with no one within 5 yards. Hasselbeck stared at him for several seconds and just took a sack. Holmgren called him out for this and as many times as I have rewatched that play, I have no idea what Hasselbeck was thinking.

For a team that hasn’t won a big game away from home in 25 years, that would have been a monster win and to me, is far worse than anything the front office has done. Remember, at that point, no NFC #1 seed lost their first playoff game, the Bears were double digit favorites and the Bears had destroyed the entire NFC that season (including the Seahawks by 30).

  60. Remember – don’t feed the troll. If a troll comes around, just ignore them and their idiot comments.

I don’t think Cleveland would be interested in Hill. I think Thomas is a stud LT and to get something that good — you have to give up something significant. If I had a Joe Thomas and was offered a middle aged LB who has never played a full season b/c of various injuries… I’d laugh at the “offer.” I know Curry has freakish skills and is going to be a Pro Bowler… but I’d take a young Pro Bowl franchise LT any day (especially with the condition of our OL).

I take back what I said earlier about making Evans the highest paid OL. I need to clarify — I would give him a better offer than any other OL in the NFL was paid (minus R contracts). I wouldn’t match any contracts that are/were that big because of the stupid R salary schedule and I can bet nobody else would offer Evans the kind of money that Jake Long signed for 2 years ago by being the #1 overall pick. Still, I’d overpay for him. I believe that it’s okay to overpay for the superstars at their position. I don’t believe it’s right to overpay for mediocrity (i.e. good players, paid like superstars, but aren’t close to being as good as they are paid — that’s why I’ve always been mad about Deon Grant… he was paid like the #3 overall S in the NFL and there’s no way he is/was in the top 10… he’s good, just not nowhere nearly that good).

  61. seahawklovertoo says:

OK Bobby K , ( I hope not ) if we don’t win many more games, it is possible that we could have the choice of drafting Suh , Berry or, Okung ( or the best LOT) . Which one would You take? Every one else feel free to pitch in. You can add Your choices too. have fun !

  62. I think we’d have to take Suh. He’s just that good. Having a guy like him on the DL means that you can get pressure without blitzing very often. In passing situations, Cole/Terrill are basically terrible at DT… Suh would form great pressure up the gut with Mebane. That would mean our DEs would be better too b/c the QB wouldn’t be able to escape them by stepping up in the pocket (there would be nowhere to step up with Mebane/Suh coming after them). Although I think Berry is going to be great, I think games are won/lost more often in the trenches and that’s why I’d take Suh over Berry (both IMO are going to eventually be Pro Bowlers). Of course, I would have already added 2 good/great pieces to the OL in FA so we wouldn’t have to be so desparate for OL help in the draft.

  63. BobbyAyala says:

To the point of OL vs. LB’s. Wasn’t DD Lewis a starter in the SB? As I recall, we made it to the SB with DD Lewis and the mighty Marquand Manuel filling in for the Hammer at safety, and Kelly Herndon starting opposite Trufant.

Just goes to show, IMO, how much easier it is to get to (and win) the big dance with a dominant OL and offense, then a dominant defense.

The NFL is a league of offense, and it’s much easier to build on that side of the ball, then come up with some freak defense that can make up for a deficient offense.

What makes matters worse is that our “Defensive whiz” of a GM can’t put a defense on a the field that can stay healthy, and even when they are healthy, woefully under performs, and doesn’t even come close to the Tampa or Baltimore defenses of the past decade.

  64. BobbyAyala says:

LOL! As far as psychotics go, that dude takes the cake (sorry, but that post was borderline Manson material).

  65. We had an immovable force in Tubbs and that revolutionized that ’05 defense. His ability to be a force at the LOS made it easier for the people behind them to be effective (Lewis/Manuel). However, as has been previously posted many times, the OL and what they did for that offense made the lives of all defenders easier too. We must build our OL back up to a strength and we still need a dominant DL too (like Suh). I honestly can’t think of a better scenario than signing Colledge/Evans and then getting Suh in the draft. Both lines would instantly become so much better.

  66. Hutch just got called for a false start. It was his first penalty in 27 games. This is a greally good game (MN/Pit).

  67. BobbyAyala says:

Yea, I’m watching it, and watching these refs on that tripping call, flashes of SBXL, since I have Rice on my fantasy team.

But I also have Harvin, and the back judge got a little karma back at him. I’m terrible, I know.

  68. BobbyK – did you see who allowed the strip sack TD of Favre?

  69. I once saw Joe Montana throw an interception.

  70. A little while ago, Brees went back to pass and fumbled. A Dolphin pretty much had it and Jahri Evans dove into the “pile” and with brute strength pretty much took the ball. Besides being a road grader in the running game, and a stud in pass protection, he pretty much does the little things too from what I have just seen (he’d even pass the Ruskell character test too, from all I’ve been looking up about him) as preventing a turnover like this is/was huge. If anyone is watching the Saints/Dolphins game, focus on #73. He’s awesome and slated to be a FA at the end of this season.
