Well, that feels just a little different after last Sunday. Last week you wanted to take a shower to get rid of the stench of defeat, now you need to take a shower after dousing yourself in beer and champagne after a win.
This was an absolute beat down. Yes, Jacksonville isn’t great. But the Seahawks offense hasn’t looked this good all season. Matt Hasselbeck was outstanding. He was poised. He made great decisions – except for that blocking attempt — but I think we can all see the difference with him at the helm.
Defensively, big props to the defense as a whole, but definitely some love to rookies Nick Reed and Aaron Curry, who had outstanding game and the defensive line that made David Garrard’s life miserable.
I give the offensive game ball to Hasselbeck and the defensive game ball to Reed and Curry.
Feel free to post your thoughts, analysis, game ball recipients, predictions for next week, whatever …
Curry does everything well, 8 tackles, 1 sack and 1 FF.

Lets just say if Kerney is healthy next week that this team will suffer, as this will mean less PT for Reed/Tapp. As good as Kerney WAS, Reed and Tapp are better NOW. Reed is a clone of Elvis Dumbervil of Denver… an “undersized” guy who makes plays. I’ll take a productive player any day over someone who supposedly has all the tools.

Jackson’s a bust, fire Ruskell, VMAC is on a burial ground… oh wait, I mean yeah!!! That was the first game they’ve won, without the other team playing down or beating themselves, in 2 years. The team and the fans both needed this win, this way. That was awesome. And as it looks like the Cards are going to beat the Texans, necessary for the division. I cannot wait for next Sunday and a relaxing, fun week of “preparation”.

Agreed Bobby – Tapp and Reed are the here and now. I can’t wait for Trufant and Hill to join back in.

This was beautiful, man I love Nick Reed

I’ve said this before, but some of the older players (like Kerney) is just too expensive to have, when we have a bunch of young talent.
Man after the last few weeks, and the entirety of last year I, we, the team really needed this, BEA-UTIFUL
× Flag comment
Jackson has 4 sacks and 3 forced fumbles on the year. He plays poorly off of blocks in the run game as a result MJD had his only long gain of 18 yards, but this kid is getting better every game with curry and mebane commanding so much attention
× Flag comment
Sucks about Frye. Yeah he’s a scrub, but we couldn’t afford another hit on our O-line. Does anyone have any news about how substantial his injury is? Other than that, Curry is a beast, Hasslebeck is a beast. T.j., is a beast, and so is Burleson. That being said, they will all have to step it up another notch next week against the Cards. Go Hawks!!!!

Duke, haha! Yeah, fire Ruskell. He’s such an idiot., huh? This win is soooooo sweet, especially after all the crap from 49ers fans and from so-called fans on this blog who insist week after week that these Seahawks lack talent, and that our GM isn’t building a winner.
Tim Ruskell’s Seahawks are now maturing together and will only get better. The only thing that has held this team back so far this year in injuries. There is a ton of raw talent here that when brought together with the solid coaching we have and the unreal emotion of Qwest Field gives us a team that is truly on the verge.
What a great day for Seahawks fans!

BobbyK, I love Tapp, love Reed, even love the way LoJack is playing (who knew?) but that is no reason to diss Pat Kerney. We won’t “suffer” when Kerney returns. Kerney has lost some quickness, he’s getting older, but he still is a player, especially against a good running game, which is where Tapp is more often taken advantage of. We need all our D linemen. All of em.
No doubt though, Tapp has now shown he is starer material. He has earned more reps. And Reed needed a blowout game like this to get on the field and show what he can do. Awesome. Jackson was also making a ton a plays today. Nearly as many as Curry. These guys rock.
Did you see Reed’s spin move on his sack? Awesome. You could make a pass rush training film of this guy.

O Schmitt is awesome…

Frye’s injury was called a stinger. If that’s the case, sometimes those things just require watching the guy for a day or so and it recovers quickly. it often is just a pinched nerve, not a real injury. Here’s hoping.
When can we get Locklear back?
× Flag comment
Still wondering what’s up with Wrotto.
× Flag comment
I don’t want to “diss” Kerney. I only want to win and I feel that Tapp and Reed give us a better a better chance. I have ALWAYS thought Kerney was a below average run defender. I know that’s not a strength of Tapp either, but at least he has a “strength” at this point in his career, whereas Kerney doesn’t seem to be good vs the run or pass. As much as I love Kenny Easley, I doubt he would be an upgrade over Babs or Grant at either S position either. We all get older and can’t do things the way we used to.

If the Rams played the Raiders on a neutral site, who would win? Or would anyone win? Or would the losers be the people who bought tickets to watch the game.
Oh by the way, I’m sick of watching the Broncos win.

So was this the game the Defense “gets” Bradley’s scheme and makes a run like the 2007 NYG or was this another case of the team enjoying the greatest home field advantage in NFL recent history?

The Seahawks all played with heart today. It was truly enjoyable to watch. Lets just hope we can continue this into next week. Then we can get some of our key players back!

What we know:
Jared Allen is a redneck who can drink A LOT of beer. He’s also the best defensive player in the NFL.
Matt Hasselbeck is the heat and soul of the Seattle Seahawks.
Paul Allen has a lot of money.

Things I liked about this game.
1) Hasselbeck didn’t get too badly beat-up… and will live to play next week.
2) James ran well the more carries he got… (better than RB by commitee!)
3) The Hawks REALLY put a fork in the Jags… I like that!
4) Reed and Curry came up BIG for the defense.
5) Last, but by FAR not the least… THE HAWKS WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep it going!!!
Go HAWKS!!

Maybe this offensive line wasn’t as bad as everyone thinks and maybe Wallace can make the line look worse than it really is?
× Flag comment
Reed gets the glory with his late-in-the-game scoop and score, but real heroes of this game were on the defense in the first quarter.
When the Jags went all the way down the field and went for it on 4th-and-2, and OUR D DENIED THEM, that was huge! Tapp, Jackson, and Redding were all outstanding at DE. Mebane and Curry were monsters. Lofa was all over the field, and the DBs were… good enough to win.
The first string D was so good that the second half was really pretty easy for the D. Second-string guys like Reed had the easy job – pin their ears back, and rush. Stopping Jones-Drew in the first half was the key, along with frustrating Gerrard repeatedly on 3rd down early in the game.
× Flag comment
While the line looked great today, it was against a couple rookies. The real key to this game is to follow it up. They have to play with this intensity and passion next week and the subsequent weeks thereafter if they are going to be an elite D. The talent is there. If they build on this there is no telling how good they can be. We just might look back at that Bradley tirade last week as the turning point. With that, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. Got to put Warner on his back repeatedly, next week.

Anyone know if this is our most lopsided victory????
Hopefully we no longer have any naysayers’ to the Curry #4 selection… LOL!

the team played great today, hopefully the coaches learned what works with this team. it’s all up to them..
toast a victory and study study study for AZ.
one hit on matt away from 4-1.

Awww I can sleep tonight so can the dog…. It’s just such a great feeling to see the Hawks not commit stupid penalties. Matt is our leader and inspiration.
I have one question though.. Why did Bradley call run plays when we had the ball 1st and 10 in Jaguar territory.. I wanted the Hawks to sting them hard right then. Just suffocate the life right out of them..
Reed is the man.. pressure the quarterback and then tackle the Jones Drew..
the kid has so much heart..and to punctuate his play 79 yard fumble recovery TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know if SPD made any arrests? That kinda beating can’t be legal.
Curry is the real deal. I couldn’t watch whenever Matt started running with the ball or leading blocks (seriously dude, are you kidding me with that?) I also liked seeing Burleson have a big game, first in… well first I’ve seen wearing blue.
Downside, it’s not like they’re a worthy opponent.

My respect for Hasselbeck increased. Even if he gets hurt getting out of bed tomorrow, the way he managed to hide the pain and play as though he were totally healthy sent a strong message to the rest of the team IMHO. He is indeed the only QB for this team this year, as long as he can play.
I hope that the bipolar nature of the Seattle defense is an indication that they are still learning. Sometimes they’ll get it (aided by the home crowd) and sometimes they won’t. But if they’re still learning, they should get better and better if they don’t lose more people to injuries. I don’t think Seattle’s home crowd advantage is making a bad defense look great, nobody has that kind of home field advantage.
I think Kerney is still the best player for most downs, but consider the TD by Reed. Reed wasn’t actually directly in the play – I wouldn’t have expected him to be as he was playing on the opposite side – but maybe a older Kerney doesn’t have the energy to be around the ball when it came loose, and maybe Kerney doesn’t take it all the way (or does the veteran thing of falling on the ball.) That’s where the youth and relentless athleticism of a younger Reed comes into play. I hope Reed can develop into a good passing down specialist down now, then grow into an all around player in future years.
I wouldn’t take too much out of that final 4th quarter running drive. It was impressive, and I was glad to see Edge hammer away successfully, but in all honesty I though Jacksonville had mailed it in. If the Seattle lead had been 10 and they were trying to kill the clock, then we’d see how good the blocking and running really was.

Stevo is correct in that Reed got his due in garbage time. Stevo is a smart poster and always has A LOT of great points. My only point is that whenever Reed is given the opportunity to perform… well, he performs. Sometimes players just have “it.” I don’t know what the heck “it” is, but “it’s” something and some people seem to have “it.” Nick Reed seems to have “it.” Elvis Dumbervile has it too, even though he deserves to suck based on his height/weight. I DO NOT think Nick Reed, at this point in his career, is an every down player. But he’s someone who deserves to see the field, at least on a situational basis, in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters.
× Flag comment
Thanks, Bobby. Yes, some athletes just “have it”… and Reed has it in spades!!!
So does Curry. So does Tapp. So does Mebane.
Dam, I’m going out to drink beer and celebrate!
× Flag comment
No, Reed’s not yet going to be starting over Tapp and Kerney but at what point do we stop apologizing for his playmaking? It’s not accident that he always makes plays when he’s in. He’s slow, undersized and lacking in strength but as Bobby points out he has “it”. He deserved that play. He earned it. Stevo too is correct that the 1st quarter set the tone. But all Nick Reed does is make plays.

I have been openly critical
and I believe deservingly so
of the Nate Burleson “alligator” arms “catch” in the San Fran game…
but if he could somehow make catches like that… I honestly think he would, could, should… be a top 10 WR in the NFL…
He has 11 more games to prove that he’s one of those WRs… If not, he’s going to have to settle for being a top 35-40 WR… a guy who is good, but not a true stud (and, please, don’t show up with “stats”… they are lies… common sense by watching the games are what we need/want).
Stats also show that Mark Rypien has more SB wins than Dan Marino and “I run behind the greatest OL in NFL History” Smith has more yards than Barry Sanders too.
He’s also getting close to new contract time and if moron fans like me can tell who he really is… well, we’ll just leave it at that (and 7 beers later).
I believe in Nate (I have said this many times before), but I want to see him take it to another level b/c I believe he CAN… he’s just not there yet… IMO – he has the potential to be the 2nd best Seahawk WR ever… If he had 16 games like this, well that would be something… b/c he’d have 32 TDs in a season, which would shatter the Randy Moss record…

The only thing that I could find crappy about this game is the injuries added on to the O line list, and the Kelly Jennings dropped interception that was gift wrapped and passed right to him on the 20 yard line. The O line is killing us right now. Frye and Wrotto are down and out. Let’s give some props to Lawrence Jackson how bout we!!!!!!!!

I’m getting misty eyed at Stevo/Duke posts (maybe it’s the 8th … and FINAL beer)…
HUGE game next Sunday!!!

He and Matt were on the same page today. Some of those throws, before he broke his route, and then his sharp cuts right to the spot where Matt had thrown it, were beautiful. Pure timing. That’s all for today. Enjoy boys and well done. We’ll all sleep better tonight!! Go Hawks!!
× Flag comment
I’m still hard on Burleson. In the 2nd quarter, he gave up on yet another route, and it appeared like Hasselbeck overthrew Burleson. But on the replay you could see Burleson slowed down like he didn’t think he was getting the ball or didn’t think the ball was going there. If he had kept running the route full speed it might have been a TD. Given the quickess of the throw I doubt it was a hesitation move, though it could have been.
Best to throw easier passes to Nate and hope he uses his athletic abilty to break tackles and get yards after the catch. But he doesn’t look like he’ll ever be a classic deep threat, because his routes are too sloppy. In a precision passing attack, he won’t come clean on a route unless the defender makes a mistake, or he can just use speed only to run by somebody.
I totally forgot that Brian Russell made his not-so-triumphant return to Seattle. The play I noticed was him kind of getting buried by Forsett on a 8 yard run, he got driven back a yard or so, but Forsett did go down in the end.

I am about to write an open letter of apology to Lo-Jack (and, yes, he deserves the name NOW—not before, as nighthawk has pointed out).
He is/was a good pick (although I stick to my guns that John Carlson is/was a better use of that pick… I love hindsight…)…
Lawrence Jackson proves why EVERYONE in the world is a moron in evaluating players… LoJack looked lost last year… he didn’t seem to have a burst in pass rushing, nor did he look overly stout at the point of attack (although I have always thought he’d make a better role playing DE in a 3-4, than a 4-3).
Even in pre-season this year when his “excuse” of being hurt last year was gone… he still didn’t look like a player… and then Mora came out and said that fans would be disappointed if they expected LoJack to be “dynamic.” That’s basically a white (or red — I’ve had too many beers) flag in saying that Jackson sucks.
And all of a sudden, we all like him…
Before I get all mushy on Ruskell on being so great… what the hell is Steve Hutchinson up to these days!!! And why is this so??? Oh, by the way, isn’t OL our biggest NEED??? UHHH!!! You guys living in WA don’t have to hate the Hutch situation as bad as me, as I am forced to see him dominate all the time in another uniform… and it makes me mad!!!
Oh by the way, if any of you regular posters on this blog plan on coming to the Vikings game on Nov. 22 — let me know… we’ll meet up for some beers beforehand… if you don’t have tix yet, don’t worry, we can get them from scalpers accross the street from the Dome… I still don’t have mine YET… as I plan on getting them the day of the game… I just went to the big Twins series last weekend and we basically paid face value for a BIG series… Minnesota fans are losers and tickets aren’t tough to get (and IF it is louder than Qwest is only b/c they pump the noise in)…

I think the “It” factor you talk about with Reed is that he has a knack for the football, he’s heady, aware, and really practices his technique to get better. I think in a 40 yard dash he’s probably not a blazer, but in 7-10 yards he’s pretty fast and smart at keeping guys hands off of him, the same thing that Jared Allen does. While Reed is considered “small” by NFL accounts, he’s still like 6′ 2″ and 250-in normal civilian life we still consider a guy like that on the big side, and with some will and practiced technique, he’s managed to be effective.

Do you think, that for one week, all the negative nellies could please be quiet and let the rest of us enjoy the W?
We get that Hass was so bad today that he had to be replaced by Wallace, and that when Wallace came in, he didn’t complete a single pass. We get it.
We get that Nick Reed proved yet again that he’s just too small to play DE in the NFL. We get it.
We get that Mare only made 2 fg’s. Completely unacceptable. We get it.
We get that the run D needs more work, after all, the let Maurice Jones Who? rack up 34 yds on 12 carries, including a game breaking 18 yd ramble. We get it.
We get that Burly didn’t catch 1/4 of the passes thrown to him. We get it.
We get that Justin Forsett can’t pass, and so that if Hass, Wallace, Teel and Grant go down, he won’t be able to QB the team deep into the playoffs. We get it.
We get that Will Herring (isn’t that a small fish?) couldn’t manage to get more tackles than he did sacks. We get it.
We get that once the Hawks got the ball down to the Jax 20 with 2 min left, the team quit. We get it.
We get that Hass’s QB rating was under 130 for the third week in a row, and that it’s obvious that he can’t play when dinged up. We get that he could only complete less that 65% of his passes, and that he averages less than 7 yds per carry when running. We get it.
We get that the D let Luke McCown complete 100% of his passes, We get it.
We get that the D let Jax convert 2 third downs. We get it.
We get that Justin Forsett managed to average less than 7.5 ypc. We get it.
We get that Cory Redding will never replace Julius Jones at RB. We get it.
We get that we only scored 50% of the time in the red zone. We get it.
We understand all this stuff, we get it, we really do. Nevertheless, we managed to squeak out a win over a team that gave Indy quite a scare.
So would it be too much to ask that we enjoy this week without having to listen to all your sniveling and whining about how bad the Hawks suck, how Hass is worthless and Wallace is worse, how our D line gets run over and gets no QB pressure, about how Josh Wilson is a smurf and has no business in the NFL, about how Ruskell is an idiot for trading a second round pick to the obviously SB bound Broncos, and how he should have known that they were bound to be the class of the NFL this year, and how he was stupid to pick Curry, and should have gone after Sanchez?
Do you think you can find it in your flinty little hearts to have this one week?
After all, next week, we will be facing a team that overcame a 21 point half time lead to pull out a win in the last 3 min of the game.
BTW, where IS chewy, anyhow?

Nobody wanted to point out that Hass had more TDs than bruised/broken ribs?

So, imagine my surprise after working on my motorcycle all day first before going in to watch the recorded game.
My stepson came out early (they were watching the game for awhile) and I took that as a bad sign. I expected the Hawks to do poorly again this week and dreaded seeing Hass get hurt again so soon.
I wrapped up the work on the bike about 5pm and grabbed a beer to go watch the recording. I told myself that after the first 2 bad plays where we cough up the ball in a fumble or where we throw an interception or where we run out of bounds too early instead of throwing it away, that I’d just switch the game off and go for a motorcycle ride.
I soon found myself unable to leave my seat to get another beer. Good thing I could pause the recording or I’d have been a very thirsty man pinned to the TV to see every exciting second.
OMG!
As others have said, this game brought back memories of the 05 drubbing we gave the Eagles on Monday Night football.
Let’s hope that we can carry over even a portion of yesterday’s game to the Cards next week!
