Let's hit the injuries first.
Brandon Frye suffered a neck/shoulder injury in the first half and will be re-evaluated on Monday. Kyle Williams came in and suffered a knee sprain on an extra point play, but played through the pain because Seattle only had five active linemen, with Mansfield Wrotto not available after spraining his ankle.
Seahawks head coach said the team had no contingency plan other than moving tight end John Owens to tackle if another lineman went down.
Safety C.J. Wallace pulled a hamstring, and cornerback Travis Fisher pulled a hamstring or groin.
And WR Nate Burleson suffered a rib injury in the first half, but said he's OK.
"I probably landed on them in the first quarter, knocked the breath out of me," he said. "It was a good thing I was able to finish. It's not bad at all."
After getting a critical win over Jacksonville at home, Mora said he'll have no problem getting his team's attention for next Sunday's game against Arizona next week at Qwest Field.
Mora said he'll have no problem getting his team ready for next Sunday.
Asked if the win serves as turning point of the season, Mora said that only happens if the Seahawk get the job done against Arizona next week.
“It only changes if you validate it,” Mora said. “So our job is to go out and validate this thing. And that’s what we’ve got to set our minds to doing.”
There was a lot of talk about Owen Schmitt smashing his helmet several times against his head before he was introduced, with blood splatting his jersey during pre-game.
Most of the players said it fired them up, including Matt Hasselbeck, although the quarterback had to wipe blood off of his hand after he high-fived Schmitt during pre-game introductions.
Linebacker Lofa Tatupu had the best quote about the incident.
"Gruesome but beautiful at the same time," Tatupu said. "I don't know if that's possible but that got us going. Myself, D.D. Lewis, we were sitting there and we said, 'That's a bad man right there.' I guess that's a guy you want on your side. A man willing to bloody his own face, you know he's willing to put it all on the line."
Mora wasn't exactly pleased with Schmitt's display, with him being the only active fullback on the roster. Mora said Schmitt apologized afterward.
Mora said one of the play that will go overlooked was the team's goal line stand on fourth down up 3-0 early in the contest.
“I think that was a huge play," he said. "We’re up 3-0. We stop them and keep them out of the end zone. They decide not to go for the field goal. That’s really big.”

Every once in awhile you need a CF like Schmitt on your team. That's a good thing...
Does Ruskell have the telephone # for Ron Mattes or Andy Heck? He may need them. Just DON'T ask Ray Roberts!!!
Schmitt is a beast!!! Gotta love a guy willing to sacrifice to get the time fired up and ready to play!
What's the status of Locklear? Sims?
I like Owen Schmitt, but we need Justin Griffith back next week. His blocking was missing from the running game today.
Lock is supposedly back for Dallas.
Sims "may" be back for Dallas.
Griffith should be back for AZ.
41 points is huge, with Hasselbeck coming back from injury, and still playing hurt i would think.
giving up 0 points to anyone is very good. giving up 0 to the Jags who have been doing pretty well, an impressive Garrard(sp?), is something that is very good to build on going forward.
just thinking about a healthy team with Trufant, Hill, Locklear, Spencer?, who else that may be slipping my mind, is very exciting. we just need, so badly, to win next week and go into the bye 3-3!
GO HAWKS!
Quick question. Where did all the Hasslebeck Haters go?? Oh I can see the line to the bandawagon from here...
The Hasselbeck haters are clowns who probably hate their "favorite" team almost as much as they dislike everyone else. Who cares where they went? At least they are gone.
See my post to the haters in the readers post game comments...
Nightwulf:
That was spectacular!!
Owen Schmitt is a moron. Seriously, we only have one healthy FB and he cracks open his head with his own helmet like that? Good thing his head is full of rocks, I guess.
wheeeewww!!! Lots of injuries. Hass kicked some #@$!!! It will be interesting to see how we handle AZ defensively. And when are we going to tap into FA or something to address he OL????
Thanks, xcman:)
It's just that I get tired of everyone ragging on the team. Here's the facts: We kicked ass against the Lambs (I'm fully aware that it was only the Lambs, but nevertheless, we kicked ass) We played pretty well against the niners (not perfect, but then again, NOBODY plays a perfect football game, with the possible exception of Peyton Manning, and if we hadn't lost Hass, I'm thinking we would have won that one) Our scrubs played out of their tiny minds against da bearsh, but they ARE scrubs, and we lost. We upchucked all over ourselves in Indy, but when you're facing what is arguably one of the best teams in the history of the NFL (especially in the reg season), and you're missing 10 starters (including your All World LT, your QB, BOTH your starting CB's and your two veteran LB's) it's pretty easy to mentally take yourself out of the game. Then we kicked ass against a team that scored more than 30 pts the last two weeks in a row. We made them look like last year's Huskies...And they WEREN'T missing 10 starters. So we've played well to outstanding in four of our five games...but were they getting any credit? Now I'm fully aware that "effort" doesn't show up in the standings, but giving good effort, along with talent (which we have) eventually translates into wins. We're a GOOD team, despite what our record says. And looking at the rest of the season, between the Cowgirls, Lions, Lambs, Bucs, the Pack, Tenn and Hou, only one of them (the cowgirls, who beat TB [0-5], Car [1-3], and kc [0-5]) has a winning record. between them they have an impressive (not) 8-26 record, with 3 of them (Lambs, TB and Tenn) being winless. It is not impossable to turn this into an 11 win season. We win the above games, split with the Tards and beat the niners, and viola! Do I THINK we'll do this? probably not, but at the moment, winning nine doesn't seem all that much of a reach. And that would likely get us into the playoffs, where anything can happen. (including a Hawks/Broncos SB...wouldn't THAT suck) We should know after next week if the niners have fallen off their pink cloud, and how we stack up against the Tards...
Variable,
A)see my post in the readers post game comments, and
B) players with "stingers" more often than not miss a practice or two, then are back, Williams sprained knee couldn't have been all that bad, he finished the game with it, Wallace and Fisher we can live without for a couple of weeks (one of which is a bye) and Burly played (and played well) after getting dinged up, he'll be fine next week. The only injury that might sting a bit was Wrotto, but he hasn't exactly been lighting it up out there...just, for once, look at the bright side and enjoy the win...:)
If you added up all that games Meban played this year, Seattle would have the 2nd best run D. They're also tied for 4th in sacks. They're just so close to being an elite D, barring injuries of course, but are just missing a few pieces. It makes you wonder how a healthy Tru would've meant to this D.
You definitely need a guy in the draft who can take Mebane's spot when he goes down and a CB to eventually take over for Lucas.
Good posts Nightwulf - totally with you.
Obviously, if we keep getting injured in key positions, we're going to lose a lot more games - but I think if things (finally) trend our way healthwise, we're going to start winning.
