According to a report by Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com, the Seattle Seahawks have released running back Devin Moore and linebacker Thomas Williams from the practice squad, and added former University of Washington product running back Louis Rankin to the practice squad roster, leaving one spot available.
Moore, a University of Wyoming product, flashed a quick burst through the hole and ran tough for a smaller back during preseason play, but had trouble in pass protection.
Williams. a fifth-round selection by Jacksonville in 2008, was signed to the team’s practice squad when they trimmed down to the final, 53-man roster in September.
Rankin made the Oakland Raiders roster as the team’s fourth running back and main kick returner, but was cut this week with Oakland having to add a receiver.
I thought Moore looked great at times this preseason. And then there were plays you’d wonder “what the hell was that?” and I thought he looked bad. Maybe he’ll find a place in the league. If he does, I just hope it’s never against us.

Rankin? He looked against us in the pre-season and made their team.
That’s a good pickup. Could probably come in right now and be the #1 RB.
That might be stretching it a bit but ya think Edge days are numbered?

Edge is to today what Franco Harris was to the mid-80s.

BobbyK:
I agree, I heard we’d signed him and the Franco Harris experiment is what helped to curb my enthusiasm. Man, my buddies and I were jazzed to get Franco. “FRANCO!!” I can still see us screaming at each other…what a let down.
So this time, I was cautiously optimistic with a liberal layer of, “We’ll see how it goes.” between me and any unrealistic expectations.
I wonder if the Bears would trade him for that Knox kid?

Here let me say it.. Alexander is still out there. Edge is one step past the line of scrimmage, where SA would still be dancing around.
JJ is the man. He established that Sunday. We need a durable back up.
We need fresh legs from the draft next year.

No thank to alexander as he play like a scared little girl who afraid to get hit. Ask and defensive player what they think of Alexander and they will say that he afraid to get tackle or take a hit. Football is smash mouth game and if you are afraid to get hit than you need to find a new profession and who would want a guy who threw his HC under the bus and his team with his remark when, he was going for the rushing record as their no I in team and he was for himself.

“Here let me say it.. Alexander is still out there. Edge is one step past the line of scrimmage, where SA would still be dancing around.” – That’s an odd post. You imply that Seattle could bring him back in and condemn he all at the same time. Alexander can stay the hell out there, as far as I’m concerned.
I imagine I’m in the minority, but I was mildly surprised that they signed Moore to the PS in the first place. He’s fast to be sure, but so small. I can’t ever imagine him becoming strong or thick enough to make much of an impact. I’d like to be wrong, for his sake, I’ve got nothing against him, but this isn’t a total shock.
As for Rankin: How happy is he to be out of that Oakland cluster f…? And after watching this clip of his TD against the ‘Hawks, maybe we should have seen what Gore did to them coming.

Rankin is a good pickup, and he gets to come home. He will be on the 53 at some point.

Moore is definately quick but probably not durable enough to play in the nfl. I may be wrong though, look at Sproles. Rankin on the other hand I believe is durable and definately a “one cut and go guy” and he might just be a good fit here. I really like EJ as a man but I’m afraid his days as a nfl running back are done. I hope the Hawks picked up Rankin to actually play him some and not just carry him on the PS.

Was Rankin drafted or was he a free agent coming out of college?

He was undrafted. Also, I just discovered that his uncle is Webster Slaughter. Remember him from the Browns? That’s a name I had not thought about in a long time. (He was awesome in Tecmo Bowl too, by the way.)

Here comes deltha oneal. Bye bye jennings when trufant is back.

Webster Slaughter was quite a playmaker in his days with the…Browns??
Although I think with that name he probably should have been had the God given abiliy to be a linebacker.

Actually I’m wrong. He’s a texan now. Who’s gonna fill these spots? It is a mystery.

Rankin seems to me the type of back Mora and Knapp look for. He doesn’t have much lateral movement. But more of a “one cut and go ” guy. One run that stands out to me is when Washington played Syracuse about three years ago and Rankin did to them just what he did to the Hawks. He saw a hole and put on the jets and was just gone. I hope the Hawks give him a legit shot.

Kevin,
I’m sorry, but you are totally WRONG on Jennings. He has shown steady improvement this year. When/if Trufant comes back Fisher will be gone.

I agree with that last entry. Any ideas who might fill that last spot on the PS

Anyone else having problems seeing yesterdays insider stories/postings?
Sorry if I missed it, but did we lose any starters last week (vs. Chi)?

I believe if my brother “louis rankin” is given the opportunity he could be a surprise to many people. Too many people underestimate him! I’m glad he is back in seattle our family won’t have to worry about him in OAKLAND. Lol

Oh yeah, my uncle web was unerestimated as well. But as you guys stated his name is a name as a receiver to remember. He ran crisp routes and had major hands.

welcome, whitney! Best of luck to your bro!

Rankin had some big games, especially against Stanford I believe, and he looked pretty solid in pre season. Hopefully he can step up if he gets a chance. I love the idea of UW players representin’ for the Hawks. On another note, even though I believe Seneca isn’t a good QB, the idea of Teel coming in is retarded. I know I’ve been talkin’ a lot a shit lately, but I am a Hawk fan who wants them to win, just been frustrated watching them lately and those f ckin’ injuries. I beleive we have a chance against Jax and that our season will be determined by what happens after the bye week when we get some of our guy back. I think right now the main concern is to try not to get anybody else hurt. Don’t play Hass this week, please.

Thanks stevos! I believe God has him covered and its truly a blessing for him to be back in seattle! Be blessed!
