nighthawk - I have thought the same thing as you about our running game. Take away that one run and it was nothing special the entire game. And, you're right, it was against a terrible defense (one of the worst in the NFL). However, he did make that big play so there is a reason for a bit of optimism. I'm probably about as cynical as you about the OL (and I've love to have Steve and Ben at both G positions too) and don't buy into all the love about how great they are after one game because they played a terrible defense. However, I did see enough to make me feel more good about them than bad. Still, they must improve.

With Herring looking like a stud in coverage and with DD being a very capable player, I think we're fine. At this stage in his career, Brooks is merely a capable player. And he was in training camp. I know Brooks has played in a similar version of this system, but it's not exactly the same so the edge goes to DD. I think we're okay.

What makes anyone think the run game is going to get going this week after seeing last week's game? Julius Jones had 117 yards and a TD on 19 carries. A closer look reveals that 62 of those yards and the TD came on one play; on the other 18 carries he got a pedestrian 55 yards for a mediocre 3.0 ypc average; against the worst team in the league. James had a 2.7 ypc average, while Forsett only got 3 carries the whole game and managed a 5.7 ypc average. He might not get that with an additional 18 carries, but why not give him the ball and find out just what he can do? The only way this team will move the ball consistently is the way they've always moved it, by throwing it.

Inactives? Yes, shortly before game time. I imagine that if Brandon can go, he'll play regardless of missing practice time. Mora has said that he doesn't instill a no practice - no play rule. If he can't go, I'm sure we'll see Bryant. Terrill played much more that I thought he would on Sunday but got to have a bigger body in there on 3rd downs.

Not great news having Brandon Mebane sitting out of Thursday's practice. Thursday is the day they install the 3rd-down packages, and I would expect they have installed some new pressure packages involving Mebane's position to use this week. I wonder if this means Craig Terrill may end up playing some of those 3rd downs since he is the backup 3-tech DT, or if Brandon just stays in that 3rd-down role regardless of missing practice?

When do Inactives for the game get announced? On game day? Mora said that different D linemen may be active each week depending on what the team wants to do. Week 1 it was Red Bryant sitting out, now I wonder what week 2 will be...

As for the schedule, I'm not in favor of expanding the games. With four preseason, sixteen regular season, plus the playoffs, that's twenty some games already. Shortening the preseason to two games, making another two regular season games would be cool. They could even expand their OTA's to compensate for lost teaching time.

I think that Walt should get in a full week's practice without problem before he steps back in. If he comes along as we all hope, then it should be just another week or two. As for injuries, I really like the way Mora deals with it. The whole .....I don't worry about who I don't have, I worry about getting the guy I do have ready to go...(not an exact quote, but close). This year's team looks to have some pretty good depth, and the coaches have them going. I can't wait for this Sunday.

Dukeshire: As of right now I expect Housh and Mebane will play, but if they don't practice on Friday then there should be cause for concern. I'm not sure if the back spasms for Housh are new are something he's dealt with in the past.

Hopefully Housh is fine and just has a stiff back. I would like to see Walt be able to play a couple of series without a setback. As for Deion, I hope that he can make some contribution, that will help to begin to restore the teams confidence in him as well as his own confidence in himself. Also I don't know if he will be active, but I hope Red Bryant gets some playing time this weekend.
