The Seattle Seahawks concluded a two hour practice this afternoon and veteran running back Edgerrin James was not on the field.
And neither was T.J. Duckett. James’ agent Drew Rosenhaus is at the facility, but apparently the two sides are still working out the details of the agreement, which has been reported to be a one-year, $2 million accord.
The team maintains that Duckett still is on the roster and no official move has been made.
We got a chance to talk to starting running back Julius Jones about the possibility of sharing carries with James. Jones, who is recovering from a thigh bruise, said if James does join the team there will be no concerns.
“All I’m working on is trying to get myself better,” Jones said. “I’ve been out for a week and a half. I do know that whatever happens, it doesn’t have any impact on me. We’ll wait and see. I guess in a day or two it will work itself out.”
Along with Jones, Lawrence Jackson, Nate Burleson, Grey Ruegamer and Aaron Curry returned to practice today. Craig Terrell (back) suited up for the beginning of the full-padded practice but was taken out midway through to treat his back.
Sitting out with injuries were Walter Jones (knee), Marcus Trufant (back), Chris Spencer (quad), Travis Fisher (unspecified) and David Hawthorne (unspecified).
The practice was very business-like today as the team went through scout work in preparation for Kansas City. Head coach Jim Mora spent time with the offensive line and running back during inside drill as the team tries to rectify its concerns with the running game.
The coaches focused on keeping drills up-tempo and guys playing fast.
Steve Vallos worked out at center and Max Unger worked at right guard for the first team.
The Seahawks also had their annual golf challenge against a pro after practice.
Defending champions Jordan Babineaux, along with Brian Russell and Olindo Mare took on Senior PGA pro Bruce Fleisher, in town to play in this week’s Boeing Classic at TPC at Snoqualmie Ridge.
The quartet competed to see who could hit an 80-yard chip closest to the pin and of course, Fleisher came out on top, putting his shot within 8 feet of the cup.
Mare won the competition among Seahawks with a chip to within 8 feet, while Russell dropped it in at 24 feet, six inches and the defending champion Babineaux brought in the rear at 29 feet six inches.
I’m glad to see that Babs has been working more on football than his golf swing. We need him to be an impact player in the secondary this year. Its about time someone stepped up and won a starting job from an underperforming veteran.

This is going to sound really negative but…………..
1. Our O line STINKS. Could we have the worst O line in the NFL (with the worst blocking scheme for that matter)?
2. Our running game is mediocre at best. Not that they were studs, but this year’s crew is a downgrade from Morris/Weaver.
3. Hasselbeck’s game is based on timing; he’s having to learn an entire new O this year with at least 2 new primary receivers.
4. Our secondary is going to be weak if Tru isn’t 100%. Not sure about safety even if he is.
5. So far Kearny & Branch are the invisible men
6. We have no kick returned other then our #2 receiver, Burleson who WILL get injured if he’s returning kicks.
7. So far, there’s no sign that Aaron Curry is even close to Peterson; that COULD change.
8. The only upgrade I see on the entire team from 2008 is D line & POSSIBLY WR if everyone stays healthy. Wish we would have kept Engram for depth……..
Sorry to sound like the glass is pretty empty, but it is. From my view point, there’s a TEENSY chance of winning the division, IF THERE ARE NO MORE INJURIES, IF Walt & Tru come back soon & IF Arizona falls apart. Even if we somehow win the NFC west, we will almost certainly lose in the 1st round of the play offs. Shame as Matt deserves better.
Only good news is if we suck badly enough for Ruskell to get fired, maybe Holmgren will return.
Good luck………………………………

I think the Rams are terrible. I don’t think the ’9ers are much better. And I don’t respect AZ (yet). IMO they were a 9-7 team last season who got beat by about 100 points at NE in week 15. We are going to win this division, but how much further we go from there depends on the running game (OL and RB). And there’s no way we’re going to go 4-12 again. We play in the NFC Worst and host the Lions.

Holmgren SUCKED as GM his last go around. Why does everyone think he deserves a second chance? He essentially got fired from his GM duties and was allowed to keep his Headcoach position.

I’d be thrilled to see Holmy come back as head coach. As secondary coach, Mora’s secondary SUCKED. And asfaik, as head coach he had ONE good season with Atlanta. I am only speculating, but i suspect if Timmy hadn’t been in such a hurry to lock up Moron, Holmgren would likely have decided to come back.
Folks, Holmgren is another huge loss, we’re talking about a hall of fame coach; quite possibly one of the top 10 in the history of the NFL.
I also don’t see how bringing in the Raider’s offensive coordinator can be seen as an upgrade……… The Raiders? EEE-EW!

I agree with you on Holmgren as a HOF head coach. He’s also the best HC Seattle has ever had. But he was burnt out. His offence was entirely too predictable at the end. He was loyal to HIS guys to a fault.

Chuck, I agree with the comments about his O & loyalty.

Chuck, thank you, I’ve gotten tired of making those points myself:)

Then you havn’t watched much NFL football- lets see who runs the zone blocking scheme. a few of the most prominate
Indy – pretty good offensive team
Denver – since before the Terrel Davis days – only 5 different consistant 1000yrd rushers in that system.
but I am sorry worst scheme – I don’t think so
as far as the line goes – well yeah sure we are pretty weak, but I don’t think we are the worst ( maybe close) Detroit and St. Louis come to might
As far as Holmgren as GM – He failed at the GM head coach combination. Which EVERY other team that has tried has also done.
We do have to remember that yes he drafted a few bust – Lamar king, antone Palipoi come to mind. But he also brought us Walter Jones, Shaun Alexander, and Steve Hutchinson.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him getting another shot at it -it couldn’t be any worse than we are right now!!!!

I think people need to give the Seahawks a little credit. I am not saying we are going to win the Super Bowl or anything, but this team is trying to upgrade for years to come. Curry may not be Peterson right now, but give him a year or two and he will be amazing! He is more talented than most linebackers in this league were their rookie season. Branch and Kerney will come when the season starts: don’t worry about them. It’s funny that people think our backups from last year are better than the people they backed up for years. Morris and Weaver were back ups for us, and are back ups on their new teams. I think Weaver will be a starter some day, but not right now. Having them as our starters would not be an upgrade right now, it would be a downgrade.
I think the underlying thing to look at is this: IT IS THE PRESEASON!!!! People are making statements about how bad our team will be this season based on two games where our starters have played less than an entire game! I don’t know if you remember or not, but Detroit went 4-0 last preseason. Just thought I would throw that out there.
