Here is Ryan Divish’s report from this evening’s practice.
The Hawks were back inside for the evening practice in full pads.
Here’s who did not practice
Lofa Tatupu (general soreness), Lawrence Jackson (unspecified strain), Josh Wilson (groin)
Deon Grant (groin), Will Herring (groin), Chris Spencer (ankle), Walter Jones (back), Marcus Trufant (back), Nate Burleson (rest), Cory Withrow (foot), Grey Ruegamer (elbow), Patrick Kerney (calf?)
DD Lewis, Cory Redding, Ray Willis and Deion Branch all practiced tonight after not practicing today.
Just a few bullet points from practice
* The team went goal line and it was very physical.
* Craig Terrell flattened Mansfield Wrotto flat on his back.
* Julius Jones ripped off a great run in 11 on 11, just exploded through the hole and up the sidelines.
* CJ Wallace continues to play physical when given the chance. He’s going to get into a scrap soon in practice. It’s coming.
* Hasselbeck threw 60-yard TD pass to Mike Hass.
* John Carlson caught a TD pass in the goal line drills.
I just want to say when I first read the heading I thought it said Jones Breaks Big Toe. Yes my heart sunk and I am knocking on wood with my fingers crossed while rubbing a rabits foot and holding a lucky penny.

I’m glad to hear about Mike Hass. I honestly want him on the roster, Obo and Hass are the guys I want @ the latter spots. Mike Hass is an absolute stud imo.

I laugh because that is the first positive thing I’ve seen about Jones. Hmmmm.
I too think Hass is a stud because he burned us a number of times at Boise State when he played at Oregon State. That said, I don’t know if he is a bigger stud than the others though.
Cheers,
p.s. is it Saturday night yet????

I am not trying to be a wet blanket or anything, I am just saying that it is hard to really get excited about plays such as Jones breaking down the sidelines until there is a guy on the other side of the ball who is actually trying to knock the sh!t out of him….there are plenty of times when the running back “explodes through the hole and scores a TD” and there is someone there but is obviously told to not put him on his ass. I still believe that we have a very very very good team, I am just saying I am very interested to see how it works out on Saturday.

Is it me or is our list of key players not participating in practice just getting longer and longer. How are these guys going to get ready for the season if they are not on the field learning the new systems. The Holmgren days are over, and ALL of these guys need to learn the new way of doing things. My optimism for this season goes down with every key player sitting on the sidelines with a sprain, fatigue, or groin issue. I guess there is still a ways to go before the first real game, but it will be here before you know it.

Good point about breaking a big gain without someone trying to hit you. Still Undefeated in August – talk smack while we can!
At this point in a pro-level conditioning program, anyone could report any number of aches, pains and strains, so it looks like more of a bunch of precautionary stuff to me – note that none are announced as requiring significant time before they’re back.
As one of the players said about picking up the ZBS “Football is still football, no matter what terminology you’re using.” Most of the hard work of picking up the system is in the classroom, and you can walk through a lot of the motions and pick up what you’ll need to do at game time. At this level, they’ve been hitting for years, some of them decades, and there’s only so many different ways that it can be done. And, more important, only so many hits that even the best conditioned body can take before a player is forced to retire. The brutal conditioning program set forth by Mora added to the emphasis on padded practices will make for plenty of bumps and strains, so now is the time to pull a Holmgren and ease up on the pounding before an injury escalates.
This provides a microcosm of last year’s seasoning of the depth chart from injury attrition. The difference is that the players high in the depth chart are resting minor dings, not out 6 or more weeks. Good to note that guys who are sitting out drills are on the sidelines working out with the training staff and participating in what the are able to do.
Is it Saturday yet????
I think SDs blitzing style will be an acid test of the Oline and run game, but let’s keep in mind Detroit was 3-1 in the preseason last year…

Was Julius’ long run made after T.Jones was being shopped to the Hawks? Maybe it lit a fire.
