Curry’s out on the field

Apparently Aaron Curry has signed, as he just ran out on the field for this afternoon’s practice to rousing applause from the crowd. No contract details yet, but obviously head coach Jim Mora is pleased. Curry missed the first eight days of camp. With Curry in the fold, only six players remain unsigned out of the first round.

Kansas City recently signing first round draft pick Tyson Jackson, the No. 3 overall pick in the draft and one pick higher than Curry, was believed to have spurred Seattle’s negotiations with the Wake Forest linebacker. The Seahawks had to release someone in order to add Curry to the 80-man roster. That player could be wide receiver Billy McMullen, who is not in attendance at practice today, but I’ll have to confirm that with the team.

Collective sigh… Let’s get this season started!

  2. YEEEEEES!!!! Now lets get ready to kick some Butt!

  3. A name that I have not heard too much during these practices is Lawrence Jackson. Is he stepping up and making plays or is he not showing too much. I would hate to think he has become the bust that we feared.

  4. IDHawkman says:

Well TR couldn’t get him on price so he extended it a year to a six year deal. Let’s hope he lasts that long. I’m glad our LBs are locked up for quite some time now though.

  5. HawksKD says:

Sounds like 6 years! Unk. Amt at this point. I like the sound of 6 years though.

  6. IDHawkman says:

I’m hearing 6 years $60M with $34 Guaranteed. But who knows?

    cha-ching

  8. Dukeshire says:

    There he is!!

  9. Welcome Aboard Mr Curry..Game On..Lots of catching up to do

  10. Dukeshire says:

It does appear to be 6 years (I love it). IDHawkman seems to be on the right track.

  11. really good news!!

  12. “Seahawks signed rookie OLB Aaron Curry, the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, to a six-year, $60 million contract, including $34 million in guarantees.”

    rotoworld.

  13. A 6 year deal is awesome, assuming he becomes the LB we think he can be.

  14. SeahawkFan12 says:

Curry will receive a six-year contract from Seattle that will guarantee him $34 million and a total package of $60 million. It is the largest rookie contract in NFL history for a non-quarterback.

  15. Dukeshire says:

Seahawk Spin (The Seahawks official Twitter page) is reporting Billy McMullen has indeed been released to make room for Curry.

  16. seahawklovertoo says:

Bit off the topic; someone posted (couple days ago) that there is a big void on
QB after Seneca. There is a QB that never lived up the expectations in NFL so
far–Joey Harrington !! As I remember, he was awesome at Oregon. Playing and living in Detroit could ruin anyone and once the self-confidence is gone…
What I am trying to say is lets take look at him, ask the Saints for permission to talk to him and see what pans out. I have a feeling that coming back to the NW will turn him around and he will be great once again. Think for a minute: he is still young, he is healthy and has extensive experience in NFL. If Matt goes down again and Seneca gets hurt….we are in total doo-doo.
Just an idea. It would cost us very little to have him as an insurance and the dividends can be huge ( look at Cassell and Brady before him who were lucky to be drafted by a good system). Harrington was a stud in college and he can be one again

  17. martygivens says:

I went to college with Joey – great guy, excellent leader and I would love to see him on our team but I don’t think he’ll ever be anything other than a back-up in the NFL. IMHO.

  18. great news – really can’t wait to see this guy play for us. it’s the most exciting pick we’ve had in a long while . .

  19. Let’s just hope he goes out there and earns that money now!

  20. chuck_easton says:

Wow. While am glad he’s in camp, there is NO way that anyone is worth that kind of money.

  21. twocolorcrayon says:

If our D-line creates consistent good pressure and allows things to open up for this LB corps… Just wow, the things that can happen… My only worry about this defense is Russell, but that’s only one spot. This is going to be a beautiful year to witness, I feel. THERE IS NO JOHN MARSHAL. That was the biggest change of the offseason all year in my opinion. Plus, Leroy will get to attack the QB again… God damn I love Seahawks football. I can’t WAIT for the preseason game even, lol. At least Curry’s contract is over 6 years so it’s still actually cheaper than the Tyson Jackson contract.

  22. MadSweeney42 says:

Now I can pull the Curry jersey out of the closet where it’s been for a few weeks and wear it around the house a bit to break it it. Not gonna wear it to the SD game next week in case I catch a mustarded hot dog in the chest at Saturday’s game but can’t wait to see him live.

One of Dick Butkis’ sons is a buddy of mine here in L.A. and the first thing he said to me last month when I saw him was “Curry’s the real deal”. Rick got to hang out with him a bit when Curry was getting the Butkis award (as he has with most of the previous winners) and said no other guy seemed as dedicated, smart and ready to go as AC was, and he said his dad told him the same thing. Curry didn’t even want to take time out from training for the award ceremony and his main request was to have access to a gym while he was there. If the Butkises (Butkisi?) say an LB is legit, I believe them.

  23. ratman44 says:

About the Butkis….If he is smarter and more dedicated than Posluszny, that is impressive.

More athletic, I can buy, but more dedicated and smarter, I find that hard to believe.

Deon Butler, if you can work on his hands a little should be pretty special. He sometimes catches with his chest, but other than that, that kid should be pretty special. He has speed to burn. If Derrick Williams was not at PSU during the same 4 years, Butler would probably been a late first or high second, the coaching staff did everything they could to get the ball in D-wills hands, which sort of diminished Butler’s skill a little.

  24. MadSweeney42 says:

I’ll pass your doubts on to Dick if I ever get another chance to meet him. However, I’ll take his and his son’s opinion, both of whom have met both of them, over yours which is probably based on zero meetings with either LB.

  25. Harrington, like many other QB’s, will not be successful in the NFL since they played in the spread and can’t transfer the skills to the NFL.

How many have there been that maid the transition. It will be interesting to see if Tebow makes the transition next year!!

  26. ratman44 says:

Hey Madsweeney, I will admit I have never met Mr. Curry and he is an awesome LBer. I am just a little biased.

I was there when the trainers convinced Poz he could not go back into the game against Florida State, they eventually had to tie him down to keep him from running onto the field with his partially torn ligament. He worked his butt off to come back from that. He was also a very inteligent person.

That night introduced the world to Sean Lee, who also has a shot at the Butkis award, along with the other starting OLB at Penn State, Navarro Bowman. If you get a chance to watch a game the PSU front 7 should be pretty awesome.
