Training camp: Day 1

There’s a lot of things to get to so I’ll dive right in.

On the Aaron Curry front, the team still is working on negotiations to get the first-round pick in camp, and would like him in sooner rather than later.

Curry is in town and ready to report, but obviously the two sides need to come to an agreement on a contract first.

Seattle head coach Jim Mora said the more practices Curry misses the further behind he gets in terms of hispreparation for the season.

Wahle, Washington released

It’s official. The Seattle Seahawks released offensive guard Mike Wahle today, along with center David Washington, and signed offensive linemen Grey Ruegamer and Cory Withrow to fill their roster spots.

Wahle, 32, started 138 games in his 11-year career but failed a team physical. He started 10 games for Seattle in 2008, but succumbed to season-ending surgery on his right shoulder last December. It was the same shoulder Wahle had previous surgery on to repair a torn labrum while he was in Carolina.

Seattle also placed cornerback Marcus Trufant on the physically unable to perform list. I’ll find out more

Morning links: Two of a kind

In advance of the opening day of training camp I wrote a slice-of-life feature on the relationship between Jim Mora and his father for today’s paper, which you can check out here.

The younger Mora said he talks almost daily with his father, about family, life, and of course football. Mora said he also asked his father to be part of the coaching staff when he first accepted the job as Seahawks head coach, but the senior Mora wanted no part of it.

On to a few of the changes you’ll notice:

• We’ve added a left column that narrows the content column and makes the blog a little easier to read.

• In that column, we’ve added a tag cloud that shows the most blogged current topics. The tag cloud

Ruskell: No deal yet for Curry

We talked to Seattle Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell for about a half hour this morning on several topics with training camp only a day away.

First, on the Aaron Curry front, Ruskell said the two sides are continuing to negotiate and he’d like to have Curry in camp on Friday, particularly because of the important role Curry is expected to play on Seattle’s defense this year.

However, there is no deal in place as of today. Only seven of the 32, first-round picks have agreed to terms with teams at this time.
