Day 2 is complete and still no free agent has been signed by Seattle. However, we may see some action with wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh expected to decide where he plans to play next season today, along with defensive tackle Colin Cole in town on Saturday and defensive end Chris Canty headed to town on Monday.

Heading to Seattle?

WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh

Status: Visited with Minnesota on Saturday. There have been conflicting reports on whether or not he will visit Tampa Bay, but it seems he’s not getting the deals that he wants, and expressed his frustration about that (from Pro Football Talk). With Houshmandzadeh being a West Coast guy, the Seahawks could sneak in the back door on this one.

DE Chris Canty

Status: Scheduled for a visit on Monday. He also met with the Giants on Saturday, but reportedly there was a gap in negotiations.. However, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that Canty remains in New York. Canty also has interest from San Francisco, Tennessee and Green Bay, and could visit those teams as well.

DT Colin Cole

Status: Visited Seattle on Saturday and also has been to Tampa Bay. A Florida native, Cole might be leaning toward the Bucs, where former Packers defensive coordinator Jim Bates heads the defense. However, Cole would be a nice fit inside for the Seahawks, providing a solid presence inside to keep interior lineman off of Seattle’s linebackers.

WR Michael Clayton

Status: Re-upped with the Bucs on a five-year.

OL Jon Stinchcomb

Status: Signed a five-year deal with the Saints.

Moving on?

RB Maurice Morris

Status: Agreed to three-year, $7 million deal to play for Detroit.

DT Rocky Bernard

Status: Signed a four-year, $16 million deal with the New York Giants.

OL: Ray Willis

Status: Washington is interested, but the team already has spent a lot of money in free agency.

Hopefully we can get a discount and still land him. I’m glad he won’t get that 4/40 money, I don’t think he’s that caliber of a receiver. He’s a stud, don’t get me wrong, but doesn’t deserve that money. I still want Crabtree though. We’d be better off with a super young Crabtree that has a way higher ceiling than Housh imo.

  2. Somehow the Hawks have to get Canty out of NY

  3. Dukeshire says:

    I’d rather have Cole.

  4. twocolorcrayon says:

I second the Cole notion. I guess Canty’d be an upgrade, but not really one I’m excited for us to make. With what I know of Cole, I want him here more.

  5. I want Cole b/c I think he’d be a better value.

  6. Dukeshire says:

Better value and for me, a close friend of mine who is a huge Packer honk, has some nice things to say about him. Not very scientific but I trust his opinion. The Packers would like to have him back.

  7. Good to know. I think die-hard fans know more than the average, national “journalist” anyways. If a die-hard cheesehead likes him and wants him back, that says something positive. Kind of like us and Ray Willis. I guarantee that pretty much every fan of a different team in the NFL has no clue who he is and how good he can be for their team, yet we know how good he is b/c we’re psycho about our team. I don’t understand why the Vikings wouldn’t sign him. Their biggest hole is probably right tackle and if they could add a dominant run blocker like him, that wouldn’t be fair with Hutch (best run blocker in the NFL IMO), Kleinsasser (IMO the best run blocking TE in the NFL), and Willis. Take that with AP running the ball and that would be crazy. I’m glad the Vikings are stupid morons and haven’t made a move for him yet. I may have to go Postal if they had him AND Hutch from us.

  8. Thought the NEW practice facility was the deal maker.

  9. Dukeshire says:

He’s the say guy who gave me a scouting report on Jon Ryan after the ‘Hawks signed him. It went something like this: “When he’s not hitting low line drives through the end zone, he’s shanking them.” Um, yes, as we found out, that is exactly right.

  10. hawkcrazy says:

Who helped get us that practice facility?

  11. snydro22 says:

Eric, any word on the identities of the three NFL players who went missing down in Florida?

  12. Dukeshire says:

What’s that about? I’m at work and can’t sneak an ESPN update.

  13. One plays for the Lions, another supposedly the Raiders, and there’s another. Not much for details yet.

  14. hawkforever21 says:

I read on (through KJR) that Seattle may be acquiring Braylon Edwards from Cleveland…….it’s just speculation at this point though……so we’ll see.

  15. redneckhawk says:

Canty wants 8 mill a year.

  16. Dukeshire says:

If Edwards can catch the ball, I’d be for that. He led the NFL is drops last season. I don’t need to relive those days again.

  17. Eric Williams says:

Snydro22: No word yet on who the three players are. A scary situation.

  18. Edwards? Where did that come from?

Great talent, no doubt. What would we give up?

The drops are troublesome though. Mangini is clearly cleaning house. KII gone, Edwards to follow?

  19. BrettinBonneyLake says:

Edwards wouldn’t be bad if we can’t get Housh.

If we sign Housh or get Edwards, and also are able to sign Cole, you have to think they draft an OT to play guard next to Walt then slide him over when Walt retires.

On the other hand, Crabtree, Branch, and Housh would be a nice lineup.

  20. Dukeshire says:

Eric -Does it appear to be a kidnap situation?

  21. Duke – their boat was lost at sea. Kind of like Gilligan’s Island (not trying to be funny). The Coast Guard is currently searching a 750 square mile radius.

I remember watching Edwards 2 years ago and thinking what a stud that guy was. And he can go deep.

Last year I remember watching him and thinking how bad he sucks because of all those drops.

It would be nice to have him, but at what cost?

  22. One thing about adding Edwards, he has legit superstar talent and was a true superstar 2 years ago. And he’s still young. He would really give Matt a hell of an option at WR. Matt has never had a receiver that talented. He’s big, fast, the whole ball of wax. TJ is not a big play guy, Edwards is.

  23. Dukeshire says:

    Oh wow.

Yes, Edwards has th ability be be great. I haven’t been able to find confirmation of this rumor, other than here.

  24. hawkforever21 says:

There’s various speculation that it would be for Seattle’s 2nd rounder this year and a 2nd day pick in 2010.

Another speculation that it may also involve swapping 1st rounders this year.

So, not sure if it’s true or what cost it would actually be.

  25. Dukeshire says:

Where. I looked at the link you provided but couldn’t find it. I’ll look again.

  26. I just found that “rumor” on

As I think about it, I wonder if we’d send Branch in the deal too. This is just me guessing…

The reason I ask is because the reason we had to give up our 1st for Branch is because the Jets were offering their second rounder. We were good and it was well known that our 2nd rounder would be worse than the Jets. Mangini was with NE and knew Branch. That’s why he wanted him when he went to the Jets. Well, now Mangini is the coach of Cleveland. If we could trade Branch and swap picks in the first and give them a second day pick next year… I would be tickled to death…

  27. Duke – I didn’t find it on that link either.

I didn’t realize he had so many drops in ’07.

He would have fit in with KoRo and DDrop.

  29. bigdukefan74 says:

I just read on that the Hawks ended up signing Cole to a 5-Year deal. Canty is still scheduled to come on Monday. Would be a nice haul to land Housh, Cole and Canty in a year the Hawks weren’t supposed to be that active. Also, has anyone heard about Reggie Williams or Ronald Curry ending up in Seattle? Would love to have Edwards! Edwards and Housh, nice combo, but probably won’t happen.

  30. bigdukefan74 says:

If we are to swap first round picks with the Browns, what is their draft spot? Considering the depth at the positions we need, if we land Edwards and swap first round picks, someone like Raji or the Ohio State corner/safety should be available, makes sense.

  31. hawkforever21 says:

The Browns draft 5th, right behind us.

  32. hawkforever21 says:

Says now on that the Canty visit is now canceled with the signing of Cole. Makes sense.

  33. bigdukefan74 says:

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for Housh. Maybe since they saved on Cole instead of Canty, they can up the offer for Housh. I am still very interested in the Braylon Edwards to Seattle rumors. Especially if we can dump Branch. Housh, Burlson, Edwards and re-sign Engram, sounds like a Pro-Bowl year for Hasselbeck. We should know the Housh decision by tonight according to all reports I have read. If we do trade for Edwards, and get Housh, I wonder if we still get Crabtree at 5 if he is available or take an OT.
