Somebody had earlier requested a photo of the berm that flanks one side of the fields at the new practice facility. I’m not sure if this photo does it justice, my guess is it is 25 or 30 feet high with a pretty steep incline. Players have been running up it to get in shape. And next year, you too can run up it so you can watch practice from the top.
I think it was placed there to shield the fields from prying eyes along the road that runs in front of the facility, as well as to offer a place from which to view practice. The opposite side is the lake, and there are trees and bushes newly planted that will shield the field from boats at some point.
Any word yet on whether practices will be open to the public?

Thanks Frank. That person was me. I was just curious because I think it’s funny that the things that we can pitch to free agents about the VMAC is it has a state of the art treadmill under water, yoga and pilates studios and a 30 foot berm.

Looks like you’re standing in the low rent district portion of the practice field.

Will the trees be tall enough by the Pats game to stop the Belichick spies peering across the lake at practice?

There’s an internet rumor going around that Paul Allen has a huge stash of cheese puffs located in a bunker in that berm….really.

That must be the secret entrance to his spider hole there!
I think the berm might prevent rubber-necking and car accidents too.

practices will be open to the public starting next year according to Lewicke…
where are these “internet rumors” coming from?

I remember when I was playing football for high school and we had to run up berms like that with players on our back and we took turns running up and down that berm…I hated then but understand it now…lol

As a kid, I remember watching the ‘Hawks practice at the original facility in Kirkland. You could sit on the rock wall and look down at the team, with the lake right behind them, awesome. It’s cool they’re getting back to something like that.

“Open practices” will be a open in name only. They were going to have a training camp session last week for charter seat holders and then canceled it due to weather. (wtf?)
You had to park at a high school miles away (and pay $5) and ride a shuttle to the VMAC.
I’m guessing they’ll sell tickets next year. It won’t be free and it won’t be walk up.

What a stupid name for this facility. Did the uber-capitalist owner feel the need to sell the naming rights to it too?
