The Seahawks have made their roster moves, and they include sixth-round draft pick Tyler Schmitt being placed on injured reserve. So the long snapper drama continues.

The other moves:

Omare Lowe, who gave up the two-point conversion last night, was waived.

WR Joel Filani was waived.

LB Will Herring was placed on PUP. He can come back after six games and has three weeks to practice with the team to determine if he is healthy enough to go on.

OT William Robinson was placed on injured reserve.

  1. Dukeshire says:

What’s the status of Lafa’s knee?? Surprised to hear about Schmitt, I was not aware his back injury was that severe.

  2. That’s the only thing I care to hear about too; Lofa’s knee.

  3. antediluvian says:

Crapola regarding Schmitt…….I thought the Hawks might have finally gotten a decent long snapper.

  4. How the hell does a long-snapper get hurt?

  5. the same way a punter sits out for a torn pectoral.

  6. all injury team

  7. ALASKANSEAHAWK says:

Does that mean they are going with Lindsey for LS or are they going to bring in a few more people and have a revolving door like they did last year?

  8. This is a bit suprising, but at least this gives them more time to look at Lindsey or bring someone else in. I’m on edge waiting to hear something about Lofa. Any chance they’ll release something today?

  9. Lofa,
    Lofa,
    Lofa,
    Lofa,

    Pay attention guys…..

“I have a call in to the Hawks regarding Lofa’s injury, but they are currently not answering. Just to give you a heads-up, their MO this preseason has been to announce the injury the day after the MRI, so they may not be releasing anything on that today.”

  10. Orogenic says:

JC was on KJR earlier this morning and said Lofa’s knee is fine, he just won’t play the final pre-season game.

  11. Was the Schmitt’s injury really that bad? Or is this the Leonard Weaver Manuver all over again?

  12. Dukeshire says:

    Sorry, skipped right over that.

  13. chuck_easton says:

    Osiris,

The team REALLY wanted Tyler Schmitt to be the long snapper. If he was at all able to come back and do his job they’d have taken him over Lindsey in a heartbeat. No reason to hide a guy on IR if you think he’s going to make the team.

Now if you are thinking this was a situation where he might have been ready by, say game 5 or 6 then you might as well IR him so you don’t lose him. He was wanted by several teams.

  14. Dukeshire says:

This may be something I should know, but is there a limit on how many players can a team place on the PUP list?

  15. chuck_easton says:

No limit on PUP. Only limit is players can only be PUP’ed that have not practiced at all with the team during camp.

So, in Seattle’s case that puts the limit on the PUP list to Herring and Branch (and theoretically Tubbs before he was cut). Every other player on the roster has been active for 1 or more of the training camp practices.

  16. Dukeshire says:

…or have not passed a physical. But that’s where I was going with the question, Branch. Trying to read into Herring move to see what they really feel about his health, but…

    -Thanks for the info.

  17. Herring wasn’t put on the PUP list, he was put on the reserve/non-football injury list.

  18. They need to find a long snapper QUICK. The guy they used since Schmitt got hurt is pretty bad.

Since JC’s almost always right, that’s great news about Lofa! Maybe this will light a fire under Ruskell to get Leroy Hill extended.

  19. chuck_easton says:

    UT Hawk,

Sorry but wrong. The teams official press release says Herring was PUP’ed.

There are two types of PUP designations:

reserve/non-football injury and reserve/pysically unable to perform.

  20. nighthawk2 says:

Well, I here Boone Stutz is available. I mean, Timmay! though he was good enough to replace the guy he thought was good enough to replace Darche.

I think a long snapper gets hurt running downfield and breaking up wedges/making tackles, like everyone else who gets hurt on special teams.

  21. Well look, releasing Darche was a definite “Timmay!” move, but it’s not his fault the guy got hurt. I’m not calling a “Timmay!” unless it turns out the guy is healthy in week 3.

  22. madpunter88 says:

Good for Tim Lindsay. This was the guy who bailed on his own honeymoon for one last shot at the NFL and it looks like he will get his shot. Look, there are 32 long snappers in the NFL and other than the Seahawks’ ongoing carousel of long-snappers I couldn’t name a single one of them. It is important but consistency is what matters. Lindsay has time enough, and apparently the confidence of the staff, and he will be fine.

  23. IDHawkman says:

Tim Lindsay was also the guy that came in and bailed us out of the Boone Stutz fiasco after the Saints game last year. I don’t remember a single bad snap for either a punt nor a FG once he arrived. I’m glad he was still available.

  24. adamtoth says:

I thought it was Jeff Robinson that took over long snapping last year.

  25. Tyler had 2 tackles of Vike punt returners off Reggie Hodge’s punts, that’s how LS’s get IR’d.

  26. IDHawkman says:

    Adamtoth,

I don’t remember who started the year for us but we brought in Boone Stutz for a game or two (is first game he had the bad snap to Plack during the N.O. game) and then we replaced Stutz with Lindsay who finished the year with us. We let him go in April when we signed Tyler Schmitt. Thank goodess he was still available for us so we didn’t have to go ask Stutz.

  27. wabubba68 says:

    It was Robinson, not Lindsay.

  28. Derek Rackley, Boone Stutz and Jeff Robinson were the long snappers last season. Lindsey was signed after the season and cut after the draft. The team then signed Lindsey again when Schmitt got hurt.

The LS are (mysteriously) listed as TE:
