You might enjoy these comments by Matt Hasselbeck, made on Wednesday.

On Coach Holmgren’s offensive changes: "I don’t know, I think he seems to go with what works, but today at practice was any indication or meanings, we’ve got a lot more shots downfield, a lot more things that are sort of wide-open, very aggressive offense. I think it gives us an advantage because if you’re going to play us, you haven’t seen a lot of what we’re about to do, so that’s exciting and that’s fun."

On liking a more aggressive offensive plan: "I think we all do, it’s just a matter of getting it done, of executing it, and being smart with it. It’s fun, I know the wide-outs are excited, I’m excited, and not that we’re not going to run the ball, we’re going to run the ball obviously, but it’s cool, it’s good."

On the offense becoming run-oriented the past few years: "I don’t know about that necessarily, but I know that we’ve been talking about certain things all season long this year, and he’s probably just at the point where he wants to try something new, think outside the box a little bit and give us a little change-up, make us harder to defend, and if that means throwing it in running situations, great, I think that it will just help us when we decide to run the ball."

On Seahawk fan’s reacting to Darrell Jackson’s return: "I don’t know, I really don’t know, I don’t really care either, to be honest. Whatever, I’ll say hi to him and then I’ve got to go play their defense."

On Monday Night Football: "Yeah I think it’s a big deal. It was passed my bedtime, when I was a kid I got to watch the 1:00 game, the 4:00 game, and when sixty minutes came on it was time to do your homework, and really I hadn’t even started it until right about then."

On if he feels a sense of urgency: "Yeah I think this is the obvious halfway point, a chance to take a look at what you’re doing and how you have been this season, and hopefully there is more than eight games for us. We know what we need to do to make that happen so, it’s an eight-game season at this point to determine our future and what kind of chance we have in the playoffs. It’s fun, exciting, and hopefully we can get this thing going quickly."

Sounds like Hass doesn’t have warm fuzzies for DJ.

  2. sherminator says:

    Matt watched MNF on Sunday?

Sunday is when there is a 1:00 and 4:00 (Eastern) game and 60 minutes.

  3. CYRREEN says:

My friend, who his brother plays for Seahawks, and I had a conversation. Apparently, the Seahawks locker room doesn’t think very highly of SA. According to my friend’s brother the O line feels that SA is not playing right and he is not reading the blocks correctly, and they are very frustrated with SA.

  4. ratmanhawkeast says:

the line is prob mad at shaunie sweet wheels for his lack of gumption to get to the hole they have opened.

this passing offense could be dominating. i hope they give it a chance to work. mike gets a chance to dust off the play book. when we went 4 wides against the giants at home last year for most the first half we looked unbeatable, then we went back to the SA show.

holmgren has been saving this as his ace in the hole. lets hope it works. we will find out on national telvision monday night.

  5. I’ve heard that about ole shawnie boy on KJR recently. He wasn’t refered to as a cancer in the lockerroom but that he is not well thought of. Then grogen hinted that an offensive line gets tired of a back that doesn’t run hard at the holes they open… I’ve wondered about that and watching the Cleveland game I saw a bit of that going on. At least it appeared that way to me.

  6. flahawker says:

Thinking back to the last time when the Hawks simply flung the ball around reminded of the late 2002 season. Take a look at these #’s. They might be similar to what we are about to see without a decent running game:

    Week 12 KAN 25 36 362 3 0
    Week 13 @SFO 30 55 427 3 2
    Week 14 PHI 24 45 223 2 3
    Week 15 @ATL 22 31 298 1 0
    Week 16 STL 20 32 303 1 0
    Week 17 @SDG 36 53 449 2 2

  7. JimWilke says:

Start putting up 350 passing yards a game and you might find you have a decent running game.

  8. bobbyk03 says:

Yeah, because those worthless bastards (minus the tackles, who are actually good) have a right to be pissed at anyone. They should look at themselves and realize they should quit football because they are worthless piles of crap. By the way, they can take SA with them b/c he’s as worthless as they are at opening holes.

Drafting a center, two guards, and a RB in the first 4 rounds makes sense.

  9. brianinptown says:

Matt is the best guy in the world to root for…he’s not Brady or Manning, but I’ll take Matt on my team anyday. He’s great for the Hawks.

  10. hawkfaninoklahoma says:

boobyk03, if they’re so worthless how come they can pass block so well?
it ever cross your mind they just don’t want to block for shaun?

  11. CYRREEN says:

Also, my friend told me that his brother can not stand Shaun. I was shocked to hear that. If you only knew who my friend’s brother is.

  12. I’m excited for this new offense. I remember those games in 2002, should be fun to watch. If the defense can just get a consistent pass rush, we might be able to put together a nice little win streak here.

  13. mingweezy says:

My mom’s cousin doesn’t care for Shaun so much either, and none of you know who that is…and none care either.

  14. kurtisballard says:

your mom’s cousin = your second cousin.

this is good news. i think holmgren would have switched to this philosophy a couple of weeks ago had the receiving corps been healthy. at least i like to think that. hasselbeck has always been good enough to play that type of offense, it’s just that our offensive line got so good that holmgren completely changed his way of running an offense.

  15. navy_at_3 says:

    “On Coach Holmgren’s offensive changes:”

shhhhh the players were not suppose to know this was happening!!

  16. navy_at_3 says:

    CYRREEN

I’ve said in past blogs last week and week before that… I had a feeling that the reason why MO seems to find open holes where as SA is certainly having probs finding a hole was because SA called the O line out in a media session. I always thought RB’s bought the O line cool pressents to keep them happy… whatever… I said i had a weird feeling that the O line didnt work as hard for SA as they do for MO. It was just a feeling and hoped it wasnt true.

Interesting you had mentioned it might be true.

  17. navy_at_3 says:

bobbyk03 expect when MO plays you meant to say right?

  18. navy_at_3 says:

my dog doesnt care for SA either. And he can find holes just fine

    :P

Amongst the football fantasy world, Matt is right next to Big Ben (puke) as QB’s expected to have huge vaule this weekend.

When the O is happy the D is happy. Need proof? look at CHI.

  19. oregonhawk says:

So Hackett and Engram to have good games EH……

  20. Shaunie sweet wheels – ha ha. I blew milk and corn flakes all over my screen at that one.

I am really looking forward to seeing the new look O. Shaun is a non-entity at this point.

  21. Surf Hawk says:

CYRREEN welcome to the board and thanks for the inside information. I’m going to guess who your friend’s brother is every day for the next 52 days and you tell me if I’m right or wrong. I’m going to start by assuming this person is on O and is fairly young.

Today my guess is Chris Spencer. Am I right?

  22. kinger12 says:

My other brothers best friends dogs humping another friends dog who is sometimes walked by a guy that washes the socks in the locker room for a football team in pacific northwest said that the socks are pretty smelly just like a certain running back that has the initials SA – and rhymes with Dawn Alexander!

Welcome to Air Holmgren and please bring your seats to their upright position and your tables in a locked position – on Monday night the Hawks will finally be taking off sorry for the long delay please enjoy the overpriced beer and slow service!

  23. mibuttiznum says:

    THROW THE ROCK!!
    I’m begging you, please!
    Throw the ROCK!

  24. Surf Hawk

    Young player: Yes
    Chris Spencer: No

  25. mantishawk says:

I find it hard to believe that the o line wouldn’t work as hard for shaun because they didn’t like him, as far as i can remember this is a team game and would they want to lose the game because of this, i can see not socializing or talking much to him much but not blocking doesn’t seem realistic, do you think the defence would be happy about that?

  26. CYREEN,
Funny how I have heard same from some in the know.

  27. I believe your mom’s (first) cousin would be your (first) cousin-once-removed…whether she knows Shaun or not.

  28. navy_at_3 says:

no not at all and i do hope that it’s not real.

but there are things called human emotions and when you mix in young people and an old stubborn mule who’s been blocking for him this whole time and then you get SA in the mix…. i could SEE it happen.. but really hope it doesnt.

but like you said, i hope it’s not realistic at all. you are 100% right.

  29. Anniee882000 says:

Cyreen, if what you say is true please don’t name the player, or even give any hints. We really don’t need dissention in the locker room spilling out into the public.

    Anyway, go hawks.

  30. karrastone says:

I cant believe all the a**holes who claim to be fans why do we only love shaun when hes mvp .He is a human and doesnt deserve all this BS You dont think he knows hes not doin good ?How do you think you would play with a broken wrist now add an ankle and knee to that.He should have sat out til it healed just like all the other injured players such as branch hackett.I cant believe they still plan on playin him on Sunday give the Guy a break..

  31. CYRREEN says:

    Annie882000

I was not planning to name the player. That would be very stupid on my part. But trust me, the information I shared is 100 percent true.
