Coming into Cleveland Browns Stadium this afternoon stirred memories of the Seahawks’ last trip here.

The thing that I remember most of that weekend was that I flew back out of Cleveland the following morning … 9/10 2001. The morning after that, of course, many things changed.

It was a fairly new stadium back then. And it was more remarkable from a Seahawks’ historical standpoint as Matt Hasselbeck’s first NFL start.

And it did not bode well. Hasselbeck completed 20 of 34 passes, but had no touchdowns and two interceptions. He was sacked four times. His passer rating? 48.4. The next week against Philly was also dreadful. He completed 9 of 24 with seven sacks.

The Hawks beat Cleveland that day, 9-6, with three Rian Lindell field goals.

Will be interesting today to see how far Hasselbeck has come from that day.

Won 9-6, three field goals..

2001 opener.. first start.. 20-34 no Tds, 2 interceptions. First NFL start.. sacked 4 times, passer rating of 48.4. .. next week, ahbout the same, 9 for 24 against Philly.. 37.5 percent.. sacked 7 times.

i sure remember that Philly game… ugh. my trip to Seattle the previous weekend had been cancelled after 9-11, so i came up the following week, only to endure that beat-down at the hands of the Eagles. a beautiful, actually TOO warm, day at Husky stadium ruined by really bad football.

Don’t forget about Charlie Rogers in that Cleveland game!
