What were the odds?

Sorry, not another gambling-related entry. In this case, the odds must have been pretty long that Seattle’s offense and defense would have the same third-down numbers through 15 games. At first I thought there was a mistake with my totals. But in double-checking with the official stats, I see it’s true: Seattle has converted 77 of 210 third-down chances this season, same as its opponents. This gives us a chance to revisit the third-down numbers by distance. While the overall numbers are the same, Seattle’s offense has faced 19 additional situations of third-and-10 or longer. Not good. Charts for offense and defense follow.
