The Seahawks’ 13-3 season and Super Bowl appearance changed the expectations for future teams. That is just the way it works. My feeling going into the season was that many things must go right for a good team to enjoy a season that great. It seemed unreasonable to expect similar results this season. That is probably why I came up with 9-7 for this team when I went through and made my game-by-game predictions for the first time. The nine-win figure seemed a little low, so I switched one game and submitted a 10-6 prediction. The Hawks probably would have beat that record had they won in Arizona. Now they have to win two of their final three games (SF, TB seem most likely to me) just to hit 10-6. That’s still a good season even if expectations were higher. …

Even if this team rallies and wins in the playoffs, we can clearly identify positions that need reinforcing. Those would include FB and TE on offense and just about everywhere on defense. They could use a starting-caliber DE, a starting-caliber DT and a starting-caliber safety. …

I think we pay $5 a month for NFL Network as part of a premium package through Comcast. They have some good stuff. I really liked it when I first got it. Now I just seem to be too busy to watch consistently. I do like some of their programming, though. It’s just nice to have an all-football network. …

c00zie: I have seen teams track starter-games lost to injury. Arizona did it a few years back and Seattle happened to be second on that list, as I recall. I don’t have that info for this season, however. …

m2mnelson: Holmgren is a players’ coach in a lot of ways. I think he’s afraid of the guys wearing down. When you walk through the locker room after a game, you tend to have a better appreciation for how spent these guys tend to be after a game. We’re 14 weeks into the season and some guys need the full six days to get themselves together. Coming back on three days’ rest is tough for a lot of these guys. I can see why he would give them Monday off in this situation. The other situations — particularly pre-bye — is a separate issue.
