Getting a read on the 49ers

A few 49ers-related news sites: San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune, Sacramento Bee. These sites are sprinkled with stories about the 49ers suddenly being playoff contenders with a 4-5 record. That’s life in the NFC these days. I could see the Seahawks losing there, but not if their defense remains as disciplined as it was (generally) against the Rams.

  1. Clicked on the link and came across this spoof article

The last thing we need is Larry “I have a bigger yacht” Ellison to buy the 49er team in another game of one-upmanship. It is a joke, isn’t it?

i think if there’s one thing that’s evident this season, it’s that anyone can beat anyone this year. i mean, i know that’s true every year in the NFL, but it’s really apparent now (see: sando picks). ;)

no team should be taken for granted, no win should be ‘expected.’

i’m eagerly awaiting the news of who’s gonna start this week. though we might want to say ‘we don’t need hass and shaun to beat the 49ers,’ it’d be nice to get at least one of them back if only to get back in rythym.

my thought: if shaun can play, play him for 10-15 carries and ‘change pace’ with mo-mo frequently. leave hass out one more week.

and, as always, the D has got to keep it up and stop that run and big play. SF ran all over the lions last week. (any news on gore’s injury?

  3. roddychops says:

well, looks like gore will play, coming off a concussion.

    hang on tight, D.

I “expected” to beat the Raiders at home.

We had a scare at San Fran last season. I was happy they didn’t get that 2-point conversion at the end of the game. I hope the holdovers remember that game and are ready to rock on Sunday.

  5. roddychops says:

the steelers probably ‘expected’ to beat the raiders, too, even in oakland.

My take on the 49ers is this:

The word from Kirkland last week was that Shaun and Hass might be back in two weeks. Then the 49ers travel to Detroit and pretty much push around a Lions team that many thought were beginning to gel. (Anyone see Kitna get totally rocked in that game?) And Morris gets dinged up in the Ram game. So now, Kirkland has decided that the 49er game won’t be an easy lay-up, and is considering pushing these guys back.

After dispatching of the Rams from the NFC West race, we now face a 49er team that has dreams of a divisional title.

  7. NYCHawksFan says:

It’s time we crushed those dreams. A win this week would give us plenty of cushion for the division title and would make the rest of the reason all about playoff seeding.

  8. I live in the Bay Area, and I tell you the media here is making the Hawks-9’ers game as huge game for the 49’ers. They are saying that last time 49’ers played this big of a game was during the 2002 season playoff vs. the Giants. So, everybody will be fired-up here. Also, they will have a ceremony for Jerry Rice during the half time.

So, hope to see Hawks fired-up and ready to kick some 9’ers ass. Also, I have a lots of money riding on the Hawks.

  9. The Hawks have only covered the spread once this year on the road I think??…
