Williams is a Badger . . . who sings the fight song

Walker Williams finally exhaled Wednesday morning.

The day before, he had just finished up finals at Tacoma Baptist Schools. On Wednesday morning – national letter of intent day – he arrived at the library to the sight he had been waiting for.

Football: Walker Williams recounts Semper Fi bowl; turns down official visit to UW

Tacoma Baptist senior Walker Williams, a 6-foot-7, 315-pound offensive tackle bound for the University of Wisconsin, returned Wednesday evening from playing in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Phoenix.

Williams welcomed the chance to face elite competition.

“I went 100 percent on every play because you don’t want to look stupid on national TV,” said Williams, who had six pancake blocks in the game. “I don’t want to be on someone’s highlight reel.”

Williams enjoyed pageantry of the event. He also met three generals and a sergeant major, the highest non-commissioned officer in the Marine Corps.

“I wouldn’t want to get in a fight with that guy,” Williams quipped.

When Williams returned to school on Thursday, Washington offensive line coach Dan Cozzetto met him during Williams’ lunch period. The two chatted for about 30 minutes and Cozzetto asked Williams if he wanted to take an official visit to Washington. Williams declined and told Cozzetto that he had an in-home visit with Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema on Friday, Jan. 6.

“I told (Cozzetto) that there wasn’t anything in the forseeable future that would cause me to de-commit from Wisconsin,” Williams said.
