Wilson girls 51, Bellevue 30 for 3A third place

Once the battle for third place was over – a Wilson 51-30 victory over Bellevue in the Class 3A girls’ state championships – Rams’ post player Tia Briggs summed up the win-after-a-tough-loss experience in one word.

“Bittersweet,” she said.

The fourth-ranked Rams were fiery, not flat Saturday in steamrolling the upstart Wolverines, who knocked off No. 1 Prairie in the 3A regional tournament last weekend.

Wilson girls 48, Mercer Island 37 in 3A quarterfinals

There were some butterflies — as expected considering the circumstances — but
the Wilson Rams leaned on their defense to pull them through uncharted waters.

Making their first appearance in the Tacoma Dome in school history, the No. 4 Rams
overcame a poor shooting performance from the field and free throw line by forcing
17 turnovers and holding Mercer Island to single digit scoring in two quarters,
eventually holding on for a 48-37 victory in the Class 3A state quarterfinals on
Thursday morning at the Tacoma Dome.
