Class 3A girls: No. 8 Shorecrest 59, No. 2 Kamiakin 48

Shorecrest’s Brianne Lasconia scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help the Highlanders to a 59-48 win over Kamiakin on Friday in consolation round of the 3A state girls’ basketball tournament at the Tacoma Dome.

The win sends Shorecrest into the fourth place game on Saturday where it will meet Seattle Prep. Friday’s win over Kamiakin also marks the first time in school history the Highlanders have claimed a state trophy. Shorecrest can do no worse than sixth place.

Lasconia did much of her scoring at the free throw line, going 9 for 13 from the charity stripe. Forward Janie Uppinghouse added 15 points with all of those coming from beyond the 3-point line. The Highlanders limited Khadidja Toure, the Braves leading scorer and bound for Oregon State, to nine points on 4 of 18 shooting.

Class 4A boys: No. 3 Garfield 60, No. 4 Jackson 47

The Bulldogs withstood a gigantic effort from Timberwolves forward Jason Todd to advance to the trophy round.

Todd, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, erupted for 29 points, going 10 for 15 from the field. He also pulled down 15 rebounds.

Behind a balanced scoring attack, Garfield never trailed. Three players scored in double-figures, led by guard Tucker Haymond’s 19 points and 10 rebounds. Pierre Wright added 16 points and Trevaunte’ Williams had 12 points.


Class 4A boys: No. 8 Mount Rainier 83, Bothell 74

Caden Rowland kept shooting.

“Even if I missed I was getting my teammates open and they were getting it back to me,” said Rowland, who made 6 of 12 3-pointers on the way to scoring a team-high 26 points in the elimination game.

“I was just in a rhythm,” Rowland said.

Mount Rainier performed well offensively. Point guard Malik Rodgers came close to a triple-double, totaling 12 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Forward Dwane Clay had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds and guard Adrian Davis finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Class 3A boys: No. 4 O’Dea 61, No. 5 Kennedy Catholic 41:

The Irish jumped on the Lancers early and led throughout the elimination game.

O’Dea guard Jalen Ward scored a team-high 19 points, making 8 of 19 shots. Forward Jacob Lampkin turned in a double-double, totaling 10 points and 11 rebounds, and guard Sekou Wiggs added 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Irish (21-8) led 24-18 at halftime and pulled away in the third quarter when they outpaced Kennedy Catholic 24-14.

Forward Mitch Penner poured in 21 points – he went 13 for 14 from the free-throw line – and grabbed nine rebounds for the Lancers (21-5).

Class 3A boys: No. 10 Lake Washington 52, No. 6 Mountlake Terrace 42

Lake Washington rallied from an early deficit, extending its season one more day.

The Kangaroos (21-7) trailed 9-0 before coming alive in the 9 a.m. consolation loser-out game.

“We just realized it could be our last game as senior,” Lake Washington center Darien Nelson-Henry said. “We didn’t want the season to end.”

The Kangaroos pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hawks 17-8.
