Girls Basketball: 4A, 3A, 2A Regional Round Matchups

Pairings for the regional rounds of the girls basketball state tournaments are beginning to take shape. We’ll know much more on Monday after the West Central/Southwest Bi-District tournaments conclude. The bracket will be complete after a couple district crossover games on Tuesday.

Until then, here’s a peek at the pairings.

All games will be played Saturday, Feb. 25
All games are winner-to-Tacoma Dome (3A, 4A), winner-to-Yakima SunDome (2A), loser-out


At Juanita HS
Game 1: Eastlake (14-9) vs. Rogers (13-11), 4 p.m.
Game 2: Emerald Ridge (19-5) vs. Woodinville (21-2), 6 p.m.

At Kent-Meridian HS
Game 1: Skyview (23-3) vs. Lake Stevens (22-1), 4 p.m.
Game 2: Jackson (19-4) vs. Kentwood (21-5), 6 p.m.

Wrestling: Top-ranked Orting sends 17 wrestlers to Mat Classic

Different venue, same result as last weekend’s district meet — the Cardinals sent 13 to the finals at their Class 1A Region I tournament Saturday at Bellevue Christian.

And the three-time defending state 1A champions crowned six champions — Fred Green (106 pounds), Austin Dodson (113), Drew Templeman (126), Shannon Maris (138), Mike Moniz (145) and Dalton Evanger (152) — and qualified 17 wrestlers for Mat Classic.

“We got some young kids we are taking to state that we did not think would get there,” Orting coach Mike Sowards said.

State Basketball: Locations of regional games

I’ve been focusing on football recruiting for most of the past few weeks, so this might be old news to many of you, but it’s new to me.

You can find the locations of the boys and girls basketball regional games here.

Remember, the state hoops tournaments took on a new format last year. The first-round games are played at regional sites across the state, while the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals are in one location — 4A, 3A at the Tacoma Dome; 2A, 1A at the Yakima SunDome; and 2B, 1B at Spokane Arena.
