Three to See: Week 2

SPSL SOUTH
Puyallup (1-0 league, 1-0 overall) at Federal Way (1-0, 1-0), 7 p.m. Friday
Lowdown: Puyallup shined its season-opener, dismantling Spanaway Lake 56-7. The Vikings rotated Trevor Lyon and Rhys Gervais at quarterback, with Lyon getting the majority of the snaps over Gervais, who joined the team shortly before the season. Both ran the offense well, but they’ll face a bigger, stronger and faster defense tonight. Few teams can match the Eagles’ athleticism, who have at least three Division-I recruits – RB/DB D.J. May, NG Uso Olive and OT/LB Jordan Pulu – …

Capital cruised through the league in 2010, winning every conference game by at least 31 points. The Cougars suffered some losses to graduation, though, and Timberline, aiming for its fourth straight trip to the state playoffs, is poised to reclaim its spot atop the league. Capital and Timberline seem safe to grab two of the league’s postseason …

SPSL 3A
Enumclaw (6-1, 5-1) at No. 10 Peninsula (6-1, 5-1), 7 p.m.
Lowdown: The Hornets and Panthers might not catch Lakes for the league title, but there’s plenty at stake in this game. The winner will have the inside track on taking second place, which guarantees a home game in the preliminary round of the state playoffs in Week 10. Enumclaw enters this game on an emotional high. The Hornets were down by 20 points to Bonney Lake in the first quarter last week, but rallied for a 32-27 win. QB Riley Carel directs a balanced offense, …

SPSL 3A
Peninsula (4-1, 3-1) at Bonney Lake (4-1, 3-1), 7 p.m. today at Sunset Chev Stadium
The lowdown: The Seahawks and Panthers have each been tripped up once this season – Lakes beat both teams – but outside of their losses to the Lancers, Peninsula and Bonney Lake have been absolutely dominant. The Seahawks haven’t allowed more than a touchdown, while the Panthers’ have won each contest by at least 20 points. Peninsula QB JR Grosshans is tearing up opposing defenses, having thrown for 754 yards and 7 TDs and rushed for 414 yards and 8 TDs. …
