Baseball: (UPDATE) Narrows 4A tournament called off; 3A rained out, too

UPDATE (10 a.m. Thursday): Steady, heavy rain has forced the cancellation of the Narrows League 3A tournament title game today. Based on the teams’ finish in the league standings, they will be seeded to the bi-district tournament in this order: Timberline, Yelm and Capital.

The Narrows League 4A tournament was called off Wednesday night. Here’s my story regarding that:

There won’t be a winner of the Narrows League 4A baseball tournament.

Rain washed away the first-round games on Tuesday, pushing those contests back to Wednesday. The delay meant the finals would not be played on Thursday, as originally scheduled.

“We couldn’t get all the games in,” Portenier said, “so there’s no sense playing after the loser-out games.”

Baseball: Narrows 4A, 3A tournament updates

Rain washed away first-round games of the Narrows League 4A baseball tournaments on Tuesday. Those games have been pushed back to Wednesday.

In two loser out games, South Kitsap will face Central Kitsap at 1 p.m. and Bellarmine Prep plays Stadium at 4 p.m. today. Both games are at Heidelberg Park.

In the 3A tournament, Capital beat Wilson 10-2 on Tuesday. The Cougars play Yelm at 7 p.m. today. The winner advances to meet Timberline in the finals on Thursday and the loser will be the third seed to the West Central District tournament.

Because play must be completed by Thursday, the 4A tournament won’t be completed. Narrows League baseball commissioner John Portenier said teams will be seeded to the West Central District tournament based on their finish in the league standings.

Boys basketball: Lincoln beats Foss, 64-55

For Lincoln High, the mission was simple – return the favor.

“We had to get a little payback,” Abes junior guard Tre’Shaun Lexing said.

After falling to Foss at home three weeks ago, Lincoln beat the Falcons 64-55 in a key Narrows League 3A boys basketball contest Friday night.

“We wanted this, Foss is our biggest rival in the city,” Abes coach Aubrey Shelton said. “(Last time) Foss kind of embarrassed us because we played so flat and weren’t ready to go and they outworked us.”

Winning did more than exact revenge for Lincoln.
