Thre Narrows League boys basketball tiebreaker games have been scheduled for Friday night.

In 4A, Bellarmine Prep and Olympia will play at 7p.m. at Foss High to determine the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds to the bi-district tournament. At the same site, South Kitsap will face Gig Harbor at 5 p.m. in a loser-out contest. The winner advances to the bi-district tourney.

In 3A, Lincoln and Foss will square off at 7 p.m. at Mount Tahoma High to determine the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds to the bi-district tournament.

For Lincoln High, the mission was simple – return the favor.

“We had to get a little payback,” Abes junior guard Tre’Shaun Lexing said.

After falling to Foss at home three weeks ago, Lincoln beat the Falcons 64-55 in a key Narrows League 3A boys basketball contest Friday night.

“We wanted this, Foss is our biggest rival in the city,” Abes coach Aubrey Shelton said. “(Last time) Foss kind of embarrassed us because we played so flat and weren’t ready to go and they outworked us.”

Winning did more than exact revenge for Lincoln.

If you’ve read this story, you know major changes could be coming to the high school sports landscape in the South Sound.

As the story says, Bellarmine Prep, Central Kitsap, Gig Harbor, Olympia and South Kitsap are expected to apply for admission to the South Puget Sound League by Monday.

So, will they be accepted?

From the conversations I’ve had the past couple days with more than a dozen athletic directors, coaches and administrators, I can say with certainty that I don’t know for sure. From the SPSL’s perspective, there are positives and negatives to expanding. However, schools that go so far as submitting an application rarely get turned down for admission.

Bellarmine Prep entered the 2011 season with big expectations. A year after reaching the Class 4A state semifinals for the first time in nearly three decades, the Lions are set on making another deep postseason run.

Bellarmine Prep played like a state title contender in the first half of its 45-13 non-league victory over Wilson Friday night, but revealed its youth after halftime.

“They’re young and that kind of showed in the second half,” Lions coach Tom Larsen said. “All you can hope is that you learn from their mistakes and that you play the way we played in the first half.”

Bellarmine Prep (2-0 overall) was nearly unstoppable early, scoring points on four of its first five possessions – three touchdowns and a field goal – and defensive back John Bush returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown halfway through the second quarter.

If the boys soccer postseason is anything like the Bellarmine Prep-Gig Harbor soccer game on Monday night, it’s going to be exciting.

There were close to 1,000 fans at Roy Anderson Field. That’s something I’ve never seen at a regular-season soccer game. Postseason games rarely have more than a couple hundred people in the stands.
