Class 1A finals: Eighteen years later, a Montesano-Royal rematch looms

Montesano (11-2) vs. No. 2 Royal (13-0)
10 a.m. Saturday, Tacoma Dome

Coaches: Terry Jensen is in his 11th season at Montesano (111-30 record). Wiley Allred is in his 14th season at Royal (158-19 record).

Road to Gridiron Classic: Montesano defeated Charles Wright Academy in the first round (31-21), King’s in the quarterfinals (17-7), and Mount Baker in the semifinals (28-6). Royal defeated Cascade-Leavenworth in the first round (70-14), Cle Elum-Roslyn in the quarterfinals (61-27), and River View in the semifinals (31-28).

Class 1A semifinal: Seasoned Montesano making its move late

No. 8 Mount Baker (10-1) vs. Montesano (10-2)
10 a.m. Saturday, Tacoma Dome

Coaches: Ron Lepper is in his 17th season at Mount Baker (116-59 record). Terry Jensen is in his 11th season at Montesano (110-30 record).

Road to the semifinals: Mount Baker defeated Woodland in the first round (21-14), and La Center in the quarterfinals (24-9). Montesano defeated Charles Wright Academy in the first round (31-21), and King’s in the quarterfinals (17-7).

About the Mountaineers: In their first season back in 1A, Mount Baker had a big task replacing all-state tailback Levi Wigg

Basketball: 2A, 1A consolation game recaps

Clover Park 69, Pullman 48 (fourth/sixth): Sophomore guard Ahmaad Rorie scored a game-high 28 point and the Warriors claimed fourth place.

In three games at the SunDome, Rorie totaled 101 points, including a career-best 46 points in Friday’s consolation win over Ellensburg. The tournament record for most points is 118 set in 2002 by Lynden Christian’s Paul Hafford, who had four games to reach his total. Rorie tallied 101 points in three games.

Clover Park shot a blistering 61 percent in the first half on its way to a 46-20 halftime lead. Xavier Means added 20 points for the Warriors.
