Boys Basketball: Ahmaad Rorie transfers to Lincoln

Ahmaad Rorie plays for Clove Park at the Class 2A boys basketball state tournament in March.

If Ahmaad Rorie adds another basketball state championship to his résumé, it won’t be won wearing a Clover Park High uniform.

Rorie, the Cal-bound rising junior, will attend Lincoln High for the 2012-13 school year, Abes boys basketball coach Aubrey Shelton confirmed Thursday morning.

“He enrolled last week for the upcoming school year,” Shelton said.

Rorie, The News Tribune’s All-Area Player of the Year in 2011, helped Clove Park win the Class 2A state championship in 2011 and led the Warriors to a fourth-place finish at state in 2012.

Shelton knows the caliber of player he’s getting in Rorie. The 6-foot point guard averaged 33.7 points per game in the state tournament.

“I would say he is the best point guard in the state,” Shelton said.

Rorie isn’t the only basketball standout transferring to Lincoln.

Player of the Year

G David Trimble, Davis, 6-2, Sr.
One of the most complete players in the state, Trimble devastated opponents with his passing, tenacious defense and timely shooting. Consider the point guard’s averages at the Class 4A state tournament: 11.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.0 block per game. Trimble was at his best in the finals when he sniffed a triple-double, totaling 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and five steals in a 54-44 win over second-ranked Central Valley. A three-time league MVP, Trimble is considering offers to play basketball or football in college.

Class 2A boys: Ahmaad Rorie goes off for 46 points in Clover Park victory

Clover Park rebounded from Thursday’s state quarterfinal loss in a big way, jumping out to a quick 15-point first-quarter lead on its way to a 79-49 Class 2A boys basketball consolation win over Ellensburg Friday afternoon at the SunDome.

Sophomore guard Ahmaad Rorie recorded a tournament-high 46 points in the win. He was 15 of 25 from the floor and 14 of 15 from the free-throw line. Rorie was two points off the tournament record, which is 48 points set by Ephrata’s Patrick Simon in 2010.

The Warriors (22-6) will face Pullman at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the fourth/sixth-place game.

Boys Basketball: No. 1 Clover Park routs No. 4 Sumner, 70-53

On the court, top-ranked Clover Park took a pounding from Sumner.

The fourth-ranked Spartans were physical, pushing and pulling the Warriors. Clover Park guard David Crisp played most of the second half with a cotton ball stuffed in a nostril to stop a bloody nose.

“They have to play us as physical as officials will allow them,” Clover Park coach Mel Ninnis said.

So, yes, Clover Park did get beat up a bit on Tuesday night, but not on the scoreboard. The Warriors thrashed Sumner 70-53 in a SPSL 2A contest Tuesday night at Clover Park.

The Warriors (7-2 overall, 5-0 league) were in control the entire game. They led 18-5 at the end of the first quarter and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
