Chambers goes 46.36 in final 400 race for Foss High School at Star Track

Donning a dark Foss High School warm-up suit and a huge wintery knitted beanie, senior Marcus Chambers made his way to the infield at Mount Tahoma Stadium a couple hours before his 400-meter race.

Mostly, he bounced around, loosening up with a look of supreme confidence. Something great was about to happen at Star Track XXXI. He knew it. He felt it.

To end his prep career, Chambers got going in a hurry right after the gun. With 125 meters to go, nobody in the Class 3A finals’ field was around him. He would have to carry this one home

Liebel, Allen spoil Zmuda’s day in hurdles at Class 2A West Central District track meet

Score one for the hungry challengers Saturday at the Class 2A West Central District track and field championships.

The rarest of events occurred – Steilacoom High School’s Daniel Zmuda was shut out in the finals of both hurdles races at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

In the 110-meter hurdles, White River’s Devin Liebel blasted out of the blocks and easily won in a state-leading time of 13.98 seconds – easily a personal-best mark.

And about 90 minutes later, North Mason’s Craig Allen went out aggressively in the first turn, came around the bend in the lead and never looked back

Federal Way boys’ 4×100 relay team disqualified at 4A West Central District meet

When asked early Friday to handicap the Class 4A state boys’ track and field team championship race at next weekend’s Star Track, one head coach succinctly replied, “It’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Well suddenly after the first day of the West Central/Southwest District championships at French Field in Kent, the dwarfs look a bit taller.

Based on its long list of impressive invitational victories this season, the Federal Way High Schools boys came into the postseason as the school to beat across the state.

State championships are not won on paper, and in a matter of minutes, the

Last meeting in 400 meters goes to Chambers at Shelton Invitational

SHELTON – Two of the state’s elite 400-meter runners – Foss’ Marcus Chambers and Tumwater’s Andrew Brown – squared off for the final time on a high school track Saturday.

Because both compete for different classifications, Chambers in Class 3A and Brown in Class 2A, large invitationals like Saturday’s 53rd edition of the Shelton Invitational are when the two friends get to race off against each other.

Chambers easily won the 400 in 48.31 seconds, running the one-lap race for the first time since achieving a personal-best time of 46.62 at the Arcadia Invitational in California April 6.

Brown,
