Getting early scare from teammates, Grenleys repeat as 1A boys’ double champion

Rob Grenley, you’ve been one-upped.

In two years at Charles Wright Academy, twins Teddy and Phillip Grenley own two state doubles titles as they capped the Class 1A tennis championships with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Overlake’s Mac Hewitt and Pranav Harikrishnan on Saturday at the Yakima Tennis Center.

So what entered Phillip’s mind as he absorbed what he and his brother Teddy had just accomplished as just sophomores?

Springfest links: Closing in on busiest high school sports weekend of the season

Greetings! Clouds again today, and hoping we are in the home stretch of the rainy weather. Lots of WIAA tournaments greatly affected by it – both in performances and schedules.

* This week, the TNT published its All-Area teams for baseball, fastpitch and boys’ soccer. Kentwood catcher Reese McGuire was the MVP for baseball, Emerald Ridge pitcher Meagan Hendrix was the player of the year for fastpitch and Jefferson forward Isidro Prado-Huerta got the MVP nod in boys’ soccer.

Thursday’s highlights

In a Narrows League showdown of undefeated volleyball teams, third-ranked Olympia rallied for a 3-2 win at No. 7 Gig Harbor and clinched at least a share of the league title. The Bears won the final two games by a combined four points. Lisa Chulich led Olympia with 15 kills and 21 digs, while Jennifer Liedes added 12 kills and seven blocks.

Bruised and battered? Free health clinic visits for student athletes

Apple Physical Therapy will open its doors from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays through Nov. 21 to injured student athletes. The clinic is located at 3912 10th St SE, Suite 101 in Puyallup.

Accordind to a press release, therapists and trainiers will be on hand to evaluate injuries and provide guidance on exercises.

“Our goal is to help student athletes get back to playing their sport safely and quickly,” Director of Athletic Training Josh Waltier said in the release.

Students with significant injuries will be referred to their primary care physicians for further treatment.
