Prado-Huerta has last laugh in late flurry of scoring in Jefferson’s 4-3 SPSL title win

In a battle of inner-district high schools battling for the South Puget Sound League boys’ soccer championship, Jefferson High School came away with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Federal Way at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Raiders earned the league’s top seed to this weekend’s Class 4A West Central District championships.

After the rough and tumble beginning from both sides, the scoring kicked off with Federal Way (15-2) striking first in the 29th minute, as senior forward Odasson Pelogi broke through the Raiders’ back line to put a composed, far post shot away.

Illies strikes out 10, No. 1 Puyallup edges 4A champion Kentwood, 2-1, for SPSL crown

And for a Vikings’ team getting locked in for a run back to the Class 4A state championship game, that’s good news.

Behind a lively fastball and nasty breaking stuff, Illies piled up 10 strikeouts en route to a complete game performance, fueling top-ranked Puyallup to a 2-1 win over Kentwood in the South Puget Sound League championship game on Thursday night at Kent Memorial Field.

“I saw a good fastball, and his breaking ball was really good,” Puyallup coach Marc Wiese said of his ace. “If we can

Hayes’ single helps Emerald Ridge rally for 4-3 win over Beamer in SPSL South fastpitch

Chelsey Hayes’ walk-off hit kept Emerald Ridge in first place in the SPSL South as the Jaguars came from behind to edge Beamer, 4-3, in Puyallup.

In the bottom of the ninth with two outs and runners at second and third, Hayes laced the first high fastball she saw from Titans starter Madison Rogers, and it fell in between two Beamer defenders in left field for an RBI single.

Kayla Muche scored the game-winning run on an error.

Portland State commit Meagan Hendrix struck out 15, and walked one in a complete-game win for the Jaguars.

Big bats, Van Horn guts lead Rogers past No. 1 Puyallup, 6-2, in baseball

From the very first pitch, Rogers High School showed patience and persistence. And it all added up to the Rams’ biggest baseball win so far this season.

The Rams scored four runs in the first inning, and rode pitcher Stefan Van Horn’s wildly effective effort the rest of the way in upending No. 1 Puyuallup, 6-2, in SPSL South action at Heritage Park on Monday night.

Hunter Nasinec’s double off the first pitch from Puyallup ace Brendan Illies set the tone. Later, Michael Sexton’s two-run home run to the opposite field capped all the early fireworks, staking the Rams to
