Large or small, sportsmanship is always under the microscope.

A simple complaint wasn’t enough in Utah last week during a high school boys’ soccer match. Tempers flared after a yellow card was issued. A player came up and punched the match’s lead referee as he was writing down notes.

The rest of it is sad: That referee started vomiting blood, collapsed and has been in a coma ever since.

The teenager was arrested on Monday, but has not been charged with a crime. The incident is still under investigation.
