Keeping it green, Chambers signs track scholarship with the Oregon Ducks

The fastest, most dynamic high-school 400-meter runner alive was in complete slow-play mode Wednesday.

College decision day was a little more than a formality for Foss High School’s Marcus Chambers. Basketball and football players plan extravagant announcement ceremonies, so why shouldn’t he?

And he did, inviting his entire school to the theater building to watch him pick a hat off the table among the five finalists vying for his quick-twitching services.

In the end, he chose the school he dubbed “track city” – Oregon – over Baylor, Louisiana State, UCLA and Southern California.

“It has been a big weight for

Long excited once again, this time playing football at Colorado State

There he stood, tall and proud.

It was Signing Day. Yeah, Lakes High’s Sammie Long went through his share of unexpected late drama in the recruiting process. In the end, the talented 6-foot-4 receiver felt at ease, home – once again.

Lakes sent six seniors to college programs – maybe not to destinations folks around the program are accustomed to. Quarterback Rhys Gervais is headed off to Western Illinois. Running back Kevin Thompson signed with South Dakota-Mines. Lineman O’Ryan Ethington aligned with New Mexico Highlands. And defensive lineman Gerald Goldwire signed with Wayne State College in Nebraska.

Long thought he

Humbled and hungry, Gamboa set to join receiving corps at Eastern Washington

With a portion of the library decked out in Eastern Washington University red and white, and a room of 100 supporters packed in, Washington High star receiver Victor Gamboa gave thanks.

He thanked God. He singled out his mother and father. He shared hugs with former coaches from the Parkland Raiders youth football team. He saluted Patriots’ teammates he was especially close to – and that coaching staff as well.

He would have thanked Eagles’ coach Beau Baldwin himself had he attended the signing-day ceremony.

“It means a lot,” Gamboa said. “If I didn’t get a scholarship, I don’t know

From Bellarmine Prep to Boulder, Liufau makes it official by signing with Colorado

This morning, there was no quick “Hut-Hut!” No hurry-up offense was in order, even though it was a moderate surprise that Bellarmine Prep’s Sefo Liufau did not have a fax machine hooked up in his bedroom – just as an emergency stipulation.

Liufau waited – patiently. He went through the school’s planning signing ceremony with teammate Calvin Chandler (Yale) outside the gymnasium on campus at 7:30 a.m., posed for a few photographs, conducted a couple of interviews.

By 7:50 a.m., he was ready – and headed down to the main office to make it official by faxing in his national

Is Long out of UW’s plans? Lakes receiver looking at other schools

Here is what we know about the uber-talented Sammie Long – the Lakes High receiver was the University of Washington’s first commitment for the 2013 recruiting class.

He gave his word to the Huskies last March. That is a long time for a recruiting marriage to hold up between prospect and college coach, one bound only by a 10-second oral agreement.

The status of that commitment as of today? Lots of uncertainty.

* Said Lakes High coach Dave Miller, Long still holds the scholarship offer from UW coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff in hand, but conceded that the senior

Fletcher (formerly Lexing) next Lincoln star to sign D1 basketball scholarship

Seniors at Lincoln High School received a tutorial Wednesday on how to buy graduation caps, gowns, rings – and earn an NCAA Division I basketball scholarship.

The Abes packed a lot in a grand celebration in their school auditorium, highlighted by national-letter-of-intent signing of standout forward Tre’Shaun Fletcher (formerly Tre’Shaun Lexing), who is headed off to Colorado on scholarship.

Fletcher became the first Lincoln player to sign with an NCAA Division I team since Justin Holt did with Oregon State in 2002 – and just the fourth Abes’ player in the past 35 years.

As he was introduced, and made
