It is the postsason, and for Wilson it is title hunting – this time another Narrows 3A fastpitch crown

The Wilson Rams finished third in the 3A Narrows League regular-season fastpitch standings behind champion North Thurston and Timberline.

For Wilson, though, the postseason means a new season.

That approach worked as Wilson upended North Thurston, 9-2, for the 3A Narrows League tournament championship Friday at Tacoma’s South End Recreation Area.
With the win, Wilson earned the league’s No. 1 seed for the West Central/Southwest bidistrict tournament.

A day after topping Timberline, 3-1, in the tournament semifinals, late-surging Wilson (14-7) won for the fifth consecutive time, getting contributions up and down its lineup. Senior Kaysha Fox said that hasn’t

South Kitsap goes extra innings – again – to capture Narrows 4A fastpitch crown

South Kitsap, the 4A Narrows League regular-season champion, wrapped up its third league tournament title in the past four years by rallying past Bellarmine Prep, 10-9, in nine innings of the championship game Friday at SERA Fields in south Tacoma.

Sophomore Hayley Romo’s RBI single brought home Hannah Spohn from third base in the bottom of the ninth, and South Kitsap secured the No. 1 seed heading into next week’s West Central/Southwest bi-district tournament.

The Wolves had runners on at the corners with Romo up to bat with two outs.

The score was 7-7 entering extra innings, and third-seeded

A Bellarmine Prep parade, led by Brown, dominates Narrows 4A girls’ golf tournament

Her coach compares her to Ernie Els, the good-natured, sweet-swinging veteran from South Africa on the PGA Tour.

And Bellarmine Prep’s Alivia Brown is just fine with that.

The Lions’ junior, and Washington State University commit is winning tournaments now with great regularity – and added to her haul Wednesday by winning the Narrows 4A girls’ tournament at Lake Spanaway Golf Course.

Brown closed with a 1-over-par 73 to earn his first league crown.

Her two-round, 1-under 143 total edged teammate Olivia Benson (73) by two strokes. Central Kitsap’s Katie Lee (78), an NCAA Division I recruit, was tied for

A pair of 77s good enough for Martinson to win the Narrows 3A boys’ golf title

A popular axiom in golf is that you play the course, and notice the competition.

A year ago, Shelton High’s Alec Martinson was one of the better golfers in the Class 4A ranks. He was close to challenging for the Narrows 4A title a year ago – and ended up finishing tied for eighth at the state championships.

In 2013, his school moved down to 3A where the Bellarmine Preps, Olympias and Central Kitsaps have been replaced by others with less tradition.

Martinson still went about his business Wednesday, claiming the Narrows 3A title after closing with a 5-over-par 77

Birdie binge on tough stretch nets MacKenzie Narrows 4A boys title

It was one of those birdie-making streaks that certainly deflates the competition – and enhances the winning chances of a golfer.

Central Kitsap High’s Auburey MacKenzie likes Lake Spanaway Golf Course. As a ninth grader last year, he lost in a three-man playoff for the Narrows 4A tournament championship.

And he was right in the thick of it Wednesday before pulling away and leaving his peers behind.

MacKenzie, now a sophomore, went like this – birdie at No. 9, eagle at No. 10, birdie at No. 11 and another birdie at No. 12 en route to a 2-under-par 70.
