TAC’s ‘Celebrity Classic’ opens today at Highlands Golf Course

The Tacoma Athletic Commission is putting on its first “Celebrity Classic” golf tournament today to raise money for youth sports in Pierce County.

Fifty-four golfers will be grouped with nine local celebrities for a nine-hole scramble at Highlands Golf Course starting at 1 p.m.

Some of the celebrities:

* Jon Kitna, former Central Washington University and Seattle Seahawks quarterback who is now the coach at Lincoln High School.

* Dane Looker, former UW and St. Louis Rams receiver who is now the receivers’ coach at Pacific Lutheran.

* Bob Houbregs, former UW All-American basketball player who set 10 school scoring records.

* Gordy Pfeifer, ex-three sport star at Puget Sound who became an international handball champion.

* Scott Westering, the current football coach at PLU.

* Roger Iverson, second-leading scorer in PLU basketball history.
