Out of the NFL, LeDuc still helping out in football at Hoquiam High School

Dana LeDuc is hardly retired.

He just isn’t in the NFL at the current time. Largely known as the godfather of today’s professional strength and conditioning program, the Tacoma native is still involved in football, just at a more basic level.

LeDuc, a Washington High School graduate, and former NCAA Division I shot put champion at Texas, owns a summer home at Ocean Shores, and lives there starting in late spring – and will stay in the area until well into September.

And this weekend, LeDuc – a former strength and conditioning coach for the Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams, as well as for Miami and Texas in college – is heavily involved in the Hoquiam High School football program. He and a few of his NFL and college buddies are teeing it up Saturday at Ocean Shores Golf Club to raise money for area youth football.

Also playing are Kenneth Sims, the 1981 Lombardi Trophy winner from Texas and No. 1 overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft by New England; ex-NFL offensive linemen Ray Ogas and Guy Bingham; former UW and St. Louis Rams receiver Dane Looker, now an assistant coach at Pacific Lutheran; and a trio of former Seahawks’ players in tailback Chris Warren, center Art Kuehn and linebacker Charlie McShane.

And on Sunday, all of those ex-football players, plus former Lakes High and Montana standout quarterback Drew Miller, will put on a Grays Harbor football camp at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.

Spots are still open for the four-man scramble. Cost is $90 per person, which includes golf, a barbecue dinner and free admission to the football camp.
