It took almost 85 minutes, but the Puyallup High Vikings finally got the result they wanted with everything on the line in the Class 4A West Central Distict boys’ soccer playoffs.
Puyallup’s Trevor Lee broke a scoreless tie by scoring a goal with 14.6 seconds left in overtime, giving the Vikings a 1-0 victory over Kentwood at Art Crate Field on Saturday afternoon.
Puyallup will be the No. 5 seed from the West Central District at the Class 4A state tournament.
Puyallup midfielder Isak Visser set up the game-winning score after he was fouled by a Kentwood defender with 50 seconds remaining in the first overtime session.
Puyallup team captain Tanner Vogt took the free kick from about 22 yards away from the goal. His kick sailed through the air, bouncing off a few players before Lee headed the ball into the right corner of the goal for the game-winner.
The Vikings played the majority of the second half and nearly all of the overtime session on Kentwood’s side of the field.
