McGuire near the end of first round in’s 2013 MLB Draft guide

March 14, 2013 9:15 am’s Keith Law certainly adds his own spin to grading out prospects – and is one of the better-versed in the business. The former Toronto Blue Jays’ special assistant to the general manager unveiled his top 50 (in order) for the upcoming MLB Draft.

And Kentwood High’s Reese McGuire was rated the second-best catcher in the MLB Draft behind Oklahoma prep standout Jon Denney (Yukon High), who comes in at No. 9.

McGuire sits at No. 28 on Law’s projected order. Here is what he had to say about the state’s top prospect.

“The second-best prep catcher in the class, and the only other one besides Denney on this list, McGuire can really throw and has a great-looking swing, although his receiving was a problem when catching better-quality stuff at showcases last summer.”
