Greetings on a pretty sweet and surreal Sunday morning. Lots of drama and good vibes from fifth-ranked Curtis High’s dramatic 60-56 win over No. 2 Jackson to win the Class 4A state boys’ basketball title.

Does it ever get old watching Tim Kelly jump a good 10 inches off the ground when he wins a big state-tournament game? Never.

A few thoughts …

1, Curtis pressure was really the difference, even though late in the game it almost backfired with all the reaching and grabbing getting out of defensive position – all leading to a lot of Timber Wolves free-throw shooting.

2, As good as Dom Robinson was the entire game – and whole tournament (should have been 4A MVP) – hats off to the Viks’ big guys in Isom Brown and Andre Lewis. Every time Jackson made a significant run, Brown did something to stop it with an inside bucket. And Lewis took on Jackson star Jason Todd down the stretch, eventually forcing the game-clinching turnover in the final second.

3, Think free-throw shooting practice is important? Dom Jordan does. He had to make three FTs for the price of two on the scoreboard (still a very weird moment of the game) because of a substitution snafu. He made all three anyway, and later told me he was a bit jittery at the time.

4, Three state titles for Kelly – and now championship at two different schools (Lincoln, Curtis). Any doubt this is the best coach in the business in Washington? Not from my vantage point.
