Curtis head coach Tim Kelly believes the persistent pressure of his team’s man-to-man defense will eventually wear opponents down.

And that’s what happened for the No. 5 Vikings, as they outscored the Knights 19-3 in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 62-40 victory in the opening game of the Class 4A state tournament here at the Tacoma Dome.

Curtis forced 26 Newport turnovers, including 15 in the second half.

Curtis point guard Dominic Robinson led the Vikings with 18 points, including 10 in the opening quarter. Fellow guard Dominique Jordan chipped in 11 points.

Newport swingman Isaac Dotson, who’s headed to Washington State to play football, led the Knights with 14 points. But Dotson was held to two points in the second half.

Guard Will Ferris finished with 13 points for Newport.
