Watch out for those peaking Arlington High Eagles.

Eighth-ranked Arlington was able to preserve a 72-60 boys’ basketball quarterfinal win over No. 7 Richland at the Tacoma Dome, the school’s first in over 51-years.

Terry Dawn was the Eagles main offensive target – he scored 23 points off of 8-for-17 shooting on the game.

So when the Bombers started keying in on the 6-foot-5 senior, Dawn would look for junior Noah Jones (9-for-11 field goals), who finished with 20 points.

Dawn also had game-highs with 13 rebounds and three blocks.

“It’s about the kids – and the kids made plays,” Arlington coach Nick Brown said. “They rose to the occasion.”

Trailing by 16 points in the fourth, the Bombers were able to make things interesting in the final minutes of the game – after a Steven Beo (14 points, 5-for-9 field goals) corner three-pointer, Payton Radliff (eight points) stole an inbound pass to bring the Bombers within single-digits.

Dawn stripped the ball from Nathan Steufert (20 points, 8-for15 field goals) on the Bombers next possession, and then he hit junior Kaleb Bryson for a break-away 3-pointer that sealed the victory.

Bryson (4-for-11 field goals) scored 12 of his 15 points off four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

I’m shedding a tear for my Richland Bombers. An unexpected first round loss happened in my senior year, and it was absolutely devastating to the whole student body. Even though it was long, long ago, I still feel the pain. Basketball was (maybe still is?)the essence of life in Richland.
