Winter state championships: All you need to know heading into weekend

Greetings. We hit the final weekend of wrestling, boys swimming and diving and girls gymnastics.

If you are planning on making a Tacoma Dome run, my suggestion – and it is a good one – have a plan. So few options to park around the dome, but so many options in the surrounding areas. So few good places to each inside the dome; so many good places around it.

* The TNT takes a look at the defining moments of Mat Classic in its 25 years. What a run! Sandy Ringer, of the Seattle Times, did something similar earlier in the week.

* Per tradition, the TNT unveils its class of “Untouchables” – seven of them. The plan for them is not to go down in defeat. Also, my good friend Jeff “Moonlight” Graham, at the Kitsap Sun, profiles North Kitsap’s Jake Velarde (one of the “Untouchables”) in his quest to win four state titles in a row, and become the 11th wrestler in Washington to do so.

* Kentridge’s Chase Bublitz is a standout swimmer, and an even better super hero, writes freelancer Jennifer Chancellor.

* And the feisty work-a-holic Chancellor is at it again, this time writing a feature on Emerald Ridge’s CaroLyne Schmidt, who will try and lead the Jaguars to their first 4A gymnastics title.
