Another Gervais will try and lead a college program at quarterback.

Rhys Gervais, who finished up his prep career last season at Lakes High School, leading the Lancers to the postseason, has given an oral commitment at Western Illinois, an FCS program in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Western Illinois hired a whole new coaching staff after its 3-8 finish last season.

“His skill set really matches the offensive scheme they want to run. It is a spread offense, but there is some zone read in there,” Lakes coach Dave Miller said. “It requires an accurate thrower, and he is athletic and can run.”

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Gervais threw for 1,745 yards and 14 touchdowns, but also tossed 14 interceptions. He is the nephew of Steve Gervais, who played quarterback at Oregon State.
