Local basketball everywhere to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King holiday

Two high school basketball tournaments honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King – the King Holiday Hoopfest and King Showcase – will run simultaneously during the day Monday in the greater Seattle area.

The longer-existing event is the King Holiday Hoopfest, which will be held at Seattle Pacific University. Tickets are $10 per session, and $25 for the entire day.

Here is the King Holiday Hoopfest schedule:

BOYS: Olympia vs. Todd Beamer, 9 a.m.
GIRLS: Wilson vs. Cleveland, 10:30 a.m.
BOYS: O’Dea vs. Lakeside of Seattle, noon
BOYS: Bellevue vs. Jackson, 2:30 p.m.
BOYS: Bothell vs. Rainier Beach, 4 p.m.
BOYS: Jefferson (Ore.) vs. Mount Rainier, 6:30 p.m.
BOYS: Garfield vs. Franklin, 8 p.m. (on-court halftime MLK ceremony)

The other King Showcase will be hosted at the ShoWare Center in Kent. Tickets range from $5-$10.

Here is the King Showcase schedule:

GIRLS: Kentwood vs. Jackson, 10 a.m.
BOYS: Foss vs. Columbia River, 11:30 a.m.
GIRLS: Oregon City (Ore.) vs. Mount Rainier, 1 p.m.
BOYS: Mountlake Terrace vs. Fairfax (Calif.), 2:30 p.m.
BOYS: Kennedy vs. Benson (Ore.), 4 p.m.
(MLK Tribune is at 5:30 p.m.)
BOYS: Decatur vs. Federal Way, 6 p.m.
BOYS: Kent-Meridian vs. Kentridge, 7:30 p.m.
