BUCKLEY – Both No. 5 White River and Fife came into their SPSL 2A boys basketball matchup Friday night feeling bitter after each suffered their first loss of the season earlier this week.
White River got itself back on track with a 73-51 victory over the Trojans, who suffered their second consecutive loss against league opponent ranked in the top-five at the 2A level.
The Hornets (4-1, 2-0 SPSL) pulled away in the second half by playing stingy defense and taking advantage of turnovers on the other end.
“We really brought it tonight,” said White River point guard Alex Sayler. “We knew we needed to get this one and we did.”
Sayler and Dustin France led the Hornets with 16 points each.
Fife (2-2, 0-2) played White River tough in the early going – with the score tied at 14-all after the first quarter – but couldn’t keep up with the Hornets after that.
White River forced eight turnovers in the second quarter and seven more in the third to take a 56-39 advantage into the final period.
